It is my honor to join in celebrating the birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, a man of peace. In his 75 years with us, the Dalai Lama has had an immense impact on the world through the power of his teachings and the gentleness of his spirit. He has inspired millions worldwide to practice compassion and deepen their commitment to justice; his writings and lectures are legendary for their wisdom and humor. Those of us lucky enough to meet the Dalai Lama walk away with smiles on our faces and new strength in our hearts. As a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and internationally revered religious and cultural leader, the Dalai Lama has been a fearless advocate for religious freedom globally and for the preservation of the religious and cultural identity of the Tibetan people. He has brought hope to tens of thousands of Tibetans throughout the world. He has said, If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion. Your Holiness, after so many years of compassionate living, your birthday is sure to be a very happy one. I wish you many more to come.
