Book Review | Past Continuous

The time of Time Pieces is ancient India—a period the book defines as everything until 1000 CE. Considering this period linearly, it includes the earliest hominins on the subcontinent some 1.5 million years ago, the arrival of modern humans some 60,000 or 70,000 years ago, the beginning of agriculture and metal-working, the Harappans, the first large kingdoms, the spread of religious cultures.

With the past becoming the site for so many of today's battles, there's been a spate of books on history written for a general audience. Few of these popular histories are written by actual historians though, which makes Nayanjot Lahiri's Time Pieces stand out.
