About this audiobook

A string of smashing victories by the forces of the sinister aliens known as the Yuuzhan Vong has left New Republic resources and morale stretched to the breaking point. Leia Organa Solo, estranged from her husband, Han, oversees the evacuation of refugees on planets in the path of the merciless invaders. Luke Skywalker struggles to hold the fractious Jedi Knights together, even while one of them undertakes a bold but reckless undercover mission.

Manipulating their alliance with the amoral Hutts, the Yuuzhan Vong leave a cunning trail of vital information where New Republic agents are sure to find it--information the desperate defenders cannot afford to ignore: the location of the aliens' next target.

Then Han Solo stumbles into the dark heart of raging battle, thus beginning a furious race against time that will require every skill and trick in his arsenal to win...

The followup to Hero's Trial has to spend more time on galactic politics and less on Han Solo in action, and the story bogs down along with the galactic response to an invasion. The times when Han is in the spotlight, though, are as good as those in the first volume. Luceno continues to demonstrate his thorough knowledge of the Expanded Universe.

I think I'm getting ready to give up on the whole "Star Wars Expanded Universe" thing. It really seems like they're trying to stretch the story out as far as they possibly can, and deal with minutiae rather than fleshing out the main storyline and then resolving it in an interesting manner. When I see a story title like "New Jedi Order", I expect to see Jedi ordering shit around, not the adventures of Han Solo and the Space Gypsies!

It's a good read and definitely part of the overall storyline for this series. I enjoyed Han finding purpose and Leia once again taking on the role of protector of the innocent.
I'm really enjoying this as a simple Sci Fi series with familiar and not so familiar characters.
