    Students are spooked at the San Francisco School of Fine Arts, and Lily is called in to search for possible paranormal activity. In return she's been promised a trunkful of Victorian-era clothes recently discovered in a school storage closet.But Lily finds something else: the body of a wealthy patron of the school. In between running the store and seeing her new boyfriend, Max-a "mythbuster" who is uncomfortable with her witchcraft-she uses her sleuthing skills to try to solve the murder.       I really like these books. I think I've heard two so far and they're engaging and well done!

      6 years ago I moved to the other side of the world from my home state of Florida to a place you'll all recognise as Australia, but I like to affectionately refer to as Opposite Land. This realisation struck me when I was explaining the move to my friend's then 6-year-old boy by telling him all about the cool ways AU was different: opposite side of the world, water ran through the drain in the opposite direction, "on" was "off" on the light switches, locks locked by turning them the opposite direction, etc. etc. To which his reply was a question: "Do they wear their shoes on the opposite feet?" Hand to god, he said that, and I snorted my iced tea up my nose. The other thing that's opposite is, of course the whole driving thing. Other side of the road and other side of the car. (Just today, after 6 freaking years, I went to get in the car on the wrong damn side....) I took 6 months before attempting to drive here and then only at night - the logic being that there'd be fewer people on the roads if I accidentally, say, started driving down the wrong side of the street. I adapted fairly quickly though and was soon tooling around in my own car. What, you may be asking yourself, for freak's sake does this have to do with the Witchcraft Series?? Well, it turns out that no matter how cool a driver you were in your homeland, the combination of other-side-of-road-and-car + the insanity that is driving in Melbourne (NOT NOT NOT the best drivers in the world, just... NOT) makes for a very stressed out driver prone to outbursts of road rage. To keep others safe from my wild gesticulations and skin searing profanities, I started listening to audiobooks while driving to and from work (plus, morning radio = blech). And thus we finally reach the point of this review: Xe Sands narration of the Witchcraft Mystery Series. I've read, reviewed and I own all the books in this series, but I had heard somewhere in one of my groups that the narration for these books was particularly well done and since I'm always looking for something to listen to (my drives are not short ones) I decided to give the first book in the series a try. Which led me to immediately purchasing every book in the series on audio. At full price. Xe Sands is brilliant. Absolutely freaking brilliant at narration. I've heard some really well narrated books previously, but she's ruined them all for me. Everyone else now sounds like Clint Eastwood in drag. By this I do not mean to infer that narrators everywhere have OD'd on testosterone supplements, but so many of them now sound to me as though they are mimicking his style of talking. I don't know how to explain it beyond that. Choppy, overly grave, um... yeah, let's go with choppy. Xe narrates these books just the way you'd imagine real people talking. She's not reading a book to you, she's living the story as she speaks it. Lily could be sitting next to me in the car telling me all about her latest adventures and it would sound exactly the same way (plus, she could totally use her magic to fix the damn traffic!). Male voices are done without the male characters sounding like they'd just been kicked and she's really adept at making one male character sound different from the next. In fact her overall range of voice characterisations is quite broad. I'm gonna stop gushing now - it's almost time to get back in the car and drive home, but if you're looking for great audiobooks and cozy/paranormal mysteries are to your liking, I can not recommend these strongly or emphatically enough.       Not bad, kind of scary for a chick-lit novel.

      Lily Ivory and very powerful witch, who owns Aunt Cora's Closet, where she sells, vintage clothing, herbs & talismans has been asked to investigate the haunting of a prominent art school in exchange for a closet full of Victorian clothing stored in the attic space of the school.

      While she is investigating the haunting, there is a murder of a prominent school benefactor. Lily also discovers that the school was once a nunnery which housed a group of nuns from France, who had some very dark secrets and who disappeared right after the Great Earthquake.......

      This was an interesting story, especially the part about caring & cleaning for vintage clothing.

      This is a cute mystery series with touches of the supernatural. The main character is a witch, but she is a nonconformist as well. Setting the stories in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco makes for an interesting set of characters and places that they visit. I just finished the third installment and am looking forward to the many more. Great beach read if you like supernatural mysteries.

      This was another good addition to this series. The San Francisco School of Fine Arts has had some paranormal activity going on so Lily agrees to help in return for some vintage clothes. But there is more in this closet of clothes than she bargained for. Plus she stumbles across a dead body and everyone thinks “the ghost” killed the man but Lily senses something different something demonic and everyone at the school seems to be on edge and aggravated at each other. At one time the school was a convent and Lily starts to wonder just what these nuns were up to.Lily does go to Aiden for help his help is a little lacking and she also meets Sailor, who is more help, and Lily seems to be attracting men like crazy, first we have Max but I agree with Aiden she will be in a Darrin & Samantha relationship with him trying to squelch her magic. Then Luke, I liked Luke myself, until it got weird. But I know most people prefer Sailor. Max did grow on me more by the end of the book.This one kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out who killed the big cheese, a ghost, a demon, or just a human? But the things that happen in this school would freak me out the white light and wind would freak me out more than the voices.As always I love Oscar he is my favorite character. I also want a store like Lily’s in my town! I liked how her relationship with Inspector Romero evolved in this one and I see them working together much more in future books.This one is narrated by Xe Sands, who as always does a great job I just love her voice and she seemed to come more into her own as Lily in this book compared to the first she was a bit more forceful and sure, I liked that!The ending really made me look forward to more of this series! If you enjoy cozy mysteries with a supernatural tilt give this series a try!3 ½ Stars

I don't always like her but I always love her gumption. She grew a LOT in A Cast-Off Coven and learned a little bit more about herself in the process. I am hoping part of the process means shucking off her current love interest but that remains to be seen. I LOVED the mystery in A Cast-Off Coven. The school was the perfect setting for this one because it involved Lily's two shop gals (my favorite characters) more! My favorite parts in the first two books all involved the side characters and I hope they play a bigger role in the future books! There was a little bit of everything involved in this case: fun, twists, turns, and a bit of old-fashioned sleuthing. I love that Lily's witch powers are just part of how she figures things out! She really does have a great head on her shoulders.Audio Thoughts: Narrated By Xe Sands / Length: 8 hrs and 41 mins Xe rocks the narration for this series. She plays Lily in a way that totally makes her personality shine. She has really good male voices and her pacing is outstanding. I totally recommend these on audio!Final Thoughts: I already got the rest of the series on audio and now I need to squeeze them in!

      Another good one by Juliet Blackwell. Like the characters a lot, some of the paranormal stuff is too far fetched but well written. Liking the 2 different series by this author, although, the books written under the name Hailey Lind were even better!

      Juliet Blackwell's "Witchcraft Mysteries" are not the most compelling cozy mysteries I've read of late, but I feel like the series has promise. The protagonist - a natural witch and owner of a second-hand clothing store in California - leaves something to be desired (for example, she is established as a character with major trust issues - which I can accept - but she willingly accepts a familiar who is likely a spy from another witch she doesn't trust - which I cannot accept), but her developing character promises to be increasingly compelling as the series continues. The mystery itself takes a backseat, and there are some narrative elements that I would have liked to have seen further developed, but for the second in a series A Cast-Off Coven isn't far off the mark.

      About half way through I started to force myself to finish the book. Never a good sign! While I enjoyed the first book, this one I felt didn't hit the mark. At times I felt her second book was being forced and dragging.

      do enjoy this series. It's a great mixture of mystery and paranormal with a nice dollop of humor and neat characters.Lily is learning what it's like to have friends. She's never had them before since she was a cast out in her hometown in Texas. Since moving to San Francisco, she has friends, a lovely shop that is highl popular and a neat familiar, Oscar the shape-shifting critter.The evil that Lily finds in the closet at the School of Fine Arts is a mystery, but she knows she must get to the bottom of it and can with the help of the coven and her really mysterious friend and possible mentor, Aiden Rhodes. Lily is also trying to figure out how to have a relationship with her myth-busting possible boyfriend, Max. She is a powerful witch and Max doesn't believe in magic or anything mystic. Will the relationship work out? Five mystical magical beans.....

      Ms. Blackwell's second go 'round with Lily as a paranormal investigator/msyery solver/super witch has proven she knows what she is doing. Not missing a beat with her characters, she forges ahead, plungign Lily into another encounter with a benevolent demon, as well as a few rugh and tumble humans as well. Lily draws closer to some of her new frineds, other shop-owners, a reporter, a journalist, and the coven that one of her friends belongs to. This time Lily takes on what is thought to be a ghost in a school bell tower. The ghost is there - but its warning students, and Lily of something far more sinister around the tower. With the murder of a national businessman, who is also the father of one of the students, things get confusing, and scary quickly at the Fine Arts school. With Adian's nudging help, and help of some of his associates, Lily learns that wahtsint he bell tower is no ghost, but a high level demon conjured by a coven of nuns over 100 years ago. Can Lily bind the demon back in its own world before more harm comes to the school?
