Aside from London and MacLean, European take on wild is misguided.

A mix of fiction and non fiction. My favorite was The Willows, an old favorite of mine. I particularly enjoyed this version as the narrator did a nice job voicing the Swede. The narrators were all good. They were able to bring an appropriate and distinctive voice to all the characters.

As a book, the stories did not really fit well together imo. It felt more like a Tuesday night lineup on TV, especially as some of the tales seemed to start in the middle and go nowhere. Still, the book mentioned a follow up book. I will look for it. I am always on the hunt for new old classics.

This book turned out to be a mixture of true and fictional accounts of survival by a variety of writers. I found it hard to switch gears (was someone's life really in peril, or was I reading a fictional account?) and the quality of the stories was less than transporting (I do love me my escapism, kids!)Some of these were excerpts from books: always difficult to truly plunge into, since you know you're missing 9/10ths of the work.I recently read another book, Adrenaline 2001, which was quite similar to this title, but only contained true accounts. I think my expectations for that title were definitely better formed and fulfilled.
