About this audiobook

Sunshine, Idaho, is a small and sunny town-the perfect home for man and beast. Well, maybe not for man, as pilot-for-hire Brady Miller discovers when his truck is rear-ended by what appears to be Noah's Ark.As the co-owner of the town's only kennel, Lilah Young has good reason to be distracted behind the wheel-there are puppies, a piglet, and a duck in her Jeep. But she doesn't find it hard to focus on the sexy, gorgeous stranger she's collided with.Lilah has lived in Sunshine all her life, and though Brady is just passing through, he has her abandoning her instincts and giving in to a primal desire. It's Brady's nature to resist being tied down, but there's something about Lilah and her menagerie-both animal and human-that keeps him coming back for more.

Author Rita Mae Brown based some of her mysteries on one of her cats, Sneaky Pie. As an animal lover, she has written this memoir about all the various animals she has known and loved, including cats, dogs, horses, and various wildlife. As an animal-lover myself, I really enjoyed this. I agree with a lot of what she has to say, and disagree with some, but then I'm a city-person and she's a country-person and having grown up in a small town, I do realize that we see things differently. However, it's very obvious how much she loves animals, so underneath it all, we're on the same page.

Animal Magnetism is a simple, straightforward account of the animals that have inhabited Rita Mae Brown's life. The stories of the cats, dogs, horses, birds, and foxes (there is even an opossum!) that have touched her reveal life lessons that all animal lovers can relate to. Brown often gets on her soap box about issues such as animal abuse, government, and city life, but she does it in such a down to earth, humble, and direct way that it is hard to disagree with her. The love and appreciation she feels for all animals shines through and the animals themselves will touch your heart. The story of Susie Q, the draft horse that taught Rita Mae to ride, reminded me of my own experiences as a child and the story of Tack, her loving and courageous dog, literally brought me to tears. As much as I loved the animals in these stories, I also loved the opportunity to learn more about Rita Mae Brown herself. She reveals herself in this book and proves she is a person worth getting to know.

I've enjoyed the books by Rita Mae Brown that I have read so I thought this memoir would be interesting. I listened to the audio download from my library which was read by Ms Brown herself. It starts with her earliest memories of pets in her childhood home in Virginia. She has always been surrounded by animals and now that she has her own place in Virginia she has dogs and horses and cats of her own. I was a little dismayed that a lot of her interest is in hounds and horses for fox hunting but as she explained that foxes are not killed I felt better about that.Sometimes her stories are funny, sometimes they are sad but they are always about love between wonderful animals and caring humans. As Rita says, if you haven't yet experienced the deep love that develops with a dog or a cat you owe it to yourself to find that special animal.

    Synopsis
Ex-military turned pilot for hire, Brady Miller has always been a love 'em and leave 'em type until he comes to Sunshine Idaho to visit his foster brothers and encounters Lilah Young, the local kennel owner who suddenly has him questioning his choices in life.

    Review
Great characters, cute animals and an intense romance but no plot to speak of.

Although Brady and Lilah have smoldering chemistry and excellent banter, their romance is predictable - at least there are no silly misunderstandings or unnecessary angst.

Lilah is an endearing heroine with her love for animals and difficulty accepting help from others. However, while I understand her attachment to the animals that she rescues, her reactions to giving them away to loving homes is definitely over the top.

Brady is a sexy, ex-military pilot with an adrenaline addiction but he is obviously at a crossroads and looking for a place to belong. Seeing him struggle with his growing feelings for Lilah is one of the best aspects of the book.

The small town dynamics are great and the secondary characters very engaging although their quirkiness quota could have been a tad higher.

Overall, a light and easy read that will have you smiling at the animal antics (which garner this an extra 0.5 star). Dell and Jade's books is next and there is obviously something very intriguing going on with them - love their snarky sarcasm.

This the first rime I read jill shalvis.... and I had a bit of a time getting used to her writing style cause she uses. Periods. a lot. Sometimes it felt like just a bunch of scenes placed in event order but not really strung together, just reasons to put the h/H in the same place. Some cheesy lines some lines that made me chuckle aloud and some great lines that could have been put to better use but great all the same. Not really feeling the chemistry between the two leads, more just how obsessed about looks they both are. Hot. God he/she is HOT. .. Then half way the sex began... and frequented too often for my tastes. So I tried to skim along but it was just a bunch of silly lines I kept seeing. So I quit. ...

I do subscribe to Jill Shalvis' FB page and I find her witty and fun to read so I really hoped I would enjoy her books... I will try her again.. perhaps this was just not a great one for me.

You know, I get tired of writing superlatives about this woman's books.

I love how quirky Lilah is. And of course who can resist a "badass" hero?

As I started reading this book, I realized in the first chapter some of the things that draw me into the story. The strong sense of place, the grounding in who the characters are. In the first chapter.

Heat, humor and heart. Guaranteed in every Jill Shalvis book. This one is no exception. Loved it.

This is the first book in this series by Jill Shalvis. It's also the first book I've ever read by this author. I really enjoyed it and thought it was sweet. It's a quick read about a former foster child who goes to visit two of his former foster brothers and is attracted to the owner of the local animal boarding business. It's a quick read and has an HEA, I plan on reading more of this series and maybe more series by this author.

It all starts with a chocolate covered doughnut, a doughnut fiend, and an abandoned dog.
Brady, pilot and single to the end of time man finds himself stuck in this crazy town straddled with a crazy little dog named Twinkles. Yes, big tough man has a dog named Twinkles. Of course he thinks the dog is the devils spawn, it does have some really bad habits. It seemed cruel to laugh at his pain but I did anyway. He is there to help his two brother's out and leave asap and has serious commitment issues. Still Lilah, the dog rescuer manages to keep him off balance and attached to the evil little guy. She unbalances him in other ways too. Let's just say he is one lusty horn dog himself.
Lilah, was raised in this town and runs her own rescue/kennel center. She is over worked, underpaid, and a bit distracted. Which might be why she ran into Brady's truck while driving with a pig, duck and other beasties in her jeep. That turned into a ride and a shared moment of doughnut chocolate covered lust. Lick your lips good feelings all around. She is friends, nearly family with his brothers and they are protective of their friend. She is a force of nature, she strives to be the savior and to do it alone. Yes, that does cause some trouble later in the story. The two go back and forth in a semi part time relationship he is only there for a month. But don't fear this author is great at HEA's.
I really like this author. I have a couple feel good authors I like to go to when I need to lighten things and this is one. She writes about good people trying to do good things and not harm others. I finished the book feeling good, happy and smiling. Damn good work !

And that was the thing with Brady. He was cool and distant. Tough and edgy. Smart as hell and braver than any man she’d ever known. Testosterone and danger oozed from his every pore. This is going to be a pretty short review of what was a quick and fluffy story that had me smiling the whole time. I loved reading about Brady and Lilah. They were both interesting characters and they had great chemistry. They both have some difficulties in their pasts but I liked that it didn't take over the story. Both Brady and Lilah could be a bit too stubborn at times and I was a bit annoyed by that from time to time. I loved that this book was filled with great secondary characters. I loved Adam and Dell and I really look forward to reading about Dell and Jade (who was another stand out character). This seemed like a short read but maybe that is just because I flew right through it. This was just the right amount of fluffy and steamy scenes and it really left me wanting to read more of this series.

I enjoyed this story especially the animal setting, plot and action with it's dose of humor but the ending was somewhat predictable, repetitive and dragged a bit so I skimmed some. Brady's friends ask him to fix their helicopter and he makes it clear to kennel owner Lilah his visit is temporary.

Oh, very sweet and very full of fluff and those sexy bits that we all love to read so much. I liked that throughout the book there was always this lightness about Lilah and Brady, which made things very easy to get into. Dell and Jade have made my mouth water with their novel potential. It was a bit on the predictable side and very much like her Lucky Harbor series, though I still think that one is better. :)

Whenever an author puts animals in a book, I'm all in. Jill's "Animal" series does it for me. What can be better than a sexy alpha male with a soft spot for animals?

While this is the first book in Jill Shalvis' Animal Magnetism series, I read it after book 2. It isn't necessary to read the books in order (always a good thing, in my book). I enjoyed this book more than I did the first one I read, because the characters were straight forward about themselves and what they were looking for in the 'relationship.' Quite a bit more sex than in other stories, but here it rather fit the characters and their motives. Good story and good narration by Ms. White.

Sexy contemporary romance of Brady Miller, Alpha ex-military he-man who returns to Sunshine, Idaho where he grew up. A loner and not someone that sticks around in relationships, he has trouble coming to terms with the fact that he is falling in love with the irresistible 5'4 kennel owner who he can't keep his hands off of. Both are prepared to keep their affair light and temporary, but is it a realistic scenario after a month? Of course not, and that's the rub. I enjoyed reading about Brady and Lilah's courtship and ultimate HEA, but Lilah's back breaking work load and dedication to her job is a bit too saintly to swallow, but she makes up for it in bed. ;) Quick read.

    I can't believe it. I found a romance/erotica that I rated with 5 stars. Okay, so if I was picky, I'd say 4.5 because I'm a finicky bitch, but I'm rounding up.

I'll admit, I was really hesitant to start this book. For one thing, I'd done something really dumb and started with Jill's newest books and worked my way back. This got me hooked right away, but left me extremely disappointed with the last (and earliest) books of hers I read. Plus, the cover? And the title? I was skeptical, but it was on my phone and I needed something to read, so I gave it a go.

And I was hooked. From the beginning. Lilah is such a wonderful character. Jill made her extremely easy to love, with her sass and her stubbornness, but also with her huge heart. I felt for her.

And then there was Brady. Good Lord in heaven, Brady. He is, hands down, the swooniest man I have ever read in a romance/erotica book. I want to fold him up and put him in my pocket (after I've done wicked things to him). Now, the wicked things in this book?? Jill doesn't toss out words like pussy and cock, but she also doesn't use flowery terms for body parts. She is erotically vague, but it works. It always leaves me wanting just a liiiiiittle more, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

The arc was well paced, though I didn't think it would be. I thought she'd waited too long for the Big Reveal, but I actually really liked how it played out. It felt natural and easy. It was a Big Reveal, but she made it so the things sort of softly clicked into place rather than a BIG BANG.

The best thing I have to say is how much Jill has grown in her writing. It was really amazing to see her writing style evolve. I cannot WAIT for the rest in this series, and to read the last in the Lucky Harbor series. She is, by far, my favorite romance writer.

Meh. I enjoy Ms. Shalvis's work, but it has only been two days since I read this and I can barely remember it. Generally, I need a week before my memory fails me.

It was fun. There were attempts at conflict, but they really didn't materialize. Humorous lines, interesting situations, but some of the plotting just left me shaking my head. No spoilers here, but I will say if someone shoots another person, there should be some penal input.

The narration, again meh. My first time listening to this narrator. Her voice seemed oftentimes light and airy, playful and cute when the dialog really didn't call for it.

I really don't know if I care enough to continue the series.

The start of another great series from Shalvis. I adored the animal shelter setting and the main characters. Brady was strong and caring. Lilah was open and honest. Together they had enough chemistry to blow up a small country. I loved it.

This book was so freaking adorable! Y'all should give it a shot because it had me laughing out loud and highlighting lines like crazy on my kindle. One of my favorite phrases is one that the women use when displeased with the men, they call them "p*nis-carrying humans"

The plot was great, Brady was uber-sexy and I really liked Lilah, she was strong, and NOT one of those heroine who's all "yea, we'll keep this super casual....5 min later....i love you! let's get married!" She actually did her damnedest to keep things casual because she thought that's what Brady wanted.

This book had me rolling in the aisles, grinning like a fool, and going 'awwwwwww' a lot. If you're looking for a happy, feel-good, smiley book with super cute animals...this is the one for you! :)

This book was a good light and fluffy read. I'm a fan of Jill Shalvis and have really adored some of the other books I've read by her, but this one isn't one of my favorites.

The characters were likable, there were some humorous moments and I loved all the animals. One thing I love about Jill Shalvis is that her characters always come off sounding like real people and that was definitely the case here. There was some wonderful dialogue between Brady and Lilah.

Despite all that I never felt overly invested in the story and I could've used a bit more substance, which is why it gets 3 stars. I did really like Dell and Adam and look forward to reading their books.

An enjoyable, fun, sexy read about boarding kennel operator Lilah Young and just-in-town-for-a-month, I-don't-do-relationships, pilot Brady Miller. I really enjoy Shalvis' writing style and it wasn't many pages before I was highlighting text in my book - the banter between the characters is very very good. Like this (where Lilah is enjoying a chocolate donut): "Would you like a moment alone with that?" he asked, amused. And also a little turned on.... "Everyone has their price" "Yes, and mine is chocolate. Offer me some and probably I'd follow you anywhere," she admitted. "Probably?" "Well, you're still a stranger" "I told you my name." "I'd need more than that." He just looked at her, smiling. They both knew he'd had her at chocolate.I remember reading a less than favourable review somewhere around the place shortly after the book was released - the reviewer didn't like Lilah - thought she was too perfect and didn't have a character arc. With all due respect to that reviewer (whose name I'm sure I will remember after I publish the post), I disagree. I didn't think Lilah was perfect, and while the growth was mainly Brady's I thought that there was also growth for Lilah in the story. I did note some copy editiing errors - eg, I don't think "unstableness" is really a word - wouldn't "instability" work better? - and there were a couple of scenes where Lilah did something like put the puppy on the floor and then a page or two later, the same puppy was being put on the floor by Brady. There was a recent kerfuffle about the copy editing of the latest Lora Leigh book which was published by the same publisher - I don't know if its endemic or not. Fortunately, I like Shalvis enough not to get too hung up about it even though that sort of thing does tend to grate and throw me out of the story.I'm looking forward to Adam and Dell's stories - I think Dell is next. *rubs hands together*

I absolutely LOVED this book. Brady is a loner, but oh so sexy, sensitive Alpha male. Lilah is a nuturer, but scared to love. Both Brady and Lilah survived difficult childhoods. This book made me laugh, cry and want Brady and his sexiness for myself. The chemistry between Lilah and Brady is HOT! The sex scenes are smokin. I love that there is a full fleshed story to go along with the sex scenes. I wouldn't classify this as erotic, but if erotic is rated X, this would be Rated R, with regular contemporary romances PG 13.The secondary characters have me chompin at the bit for their books. Dell and Adam are a couple of hunks. And I can't wait to find out all about Jade. The interactions between Brady, Lilah and the secondary characters were funny and touching. And last but not least...Boss, Twinkles and the menagerie of animals almost steal the story =)I almost didn't read Animal Magnestism because by the title I assumed it was about shape shifters and I am not that into shifters. Thank goodness I love JS works and took the time to read the description.

This was a sweet romance with touches of humor. Brady is the loner who actually has more ties than he realizes. When he comes to Sunshine to visit his foster brothers, he plans to get in and out quickly. But Lilah and a cute little dog named Twinkles have other plans. At least, Lilah would have other plans if she wasn't so busy trying to keep ahead financially, run her kennel, and go to school. She doesn't have time for any emotional entanglements. And especially doesn't want to become emotionally entangled with someone who plans to leave. These two reluctant lovers haven't taken into account the chemistry between them. Both have to push past their fears to find out what they really want. Brady is a perfect hunky hero. His gruff exterior hides a heart that is quite tender and a very caring spirit. Killer abs don't hurt either! Lilah is strong-willed and always willing to help a friend or animal in need but she isn't so eager to let anyone help her. I enjoyed this romance and am eager to read the stories of Brady's foster brothers who seem like sexy hero material in their own rites.

This is another solid contemporary romance from one of my favourite authors. With Jill Shalvis you know you’re going to get quirky characters, a lot of humour, a steamy relationship and a happy ending everyone has to work hard for. Animal Magnetism is not my favourite Shalvis book, but I enjoyed it a lot. Lilah comes from a pretty crappy past, and she’s now working her butt off with animals while also studying for her degree through the night. She lives in small town Idaho, under the protective eye of her friends who run a veterinary service. Brady has been off in the world, working as a pilot in dangerous countries, and returns home for the first time in a long time. On his first morning there, a tired Lilah with a Jeep full of animals accidentally drives into his car. And things go from there. I love Shalvis’ writing style and there isn’t anything she’s written that I disliked. Both of our leads in this one go into their relationship with a time limit on it. Brady is taking off in the world again soon, and Lilah has no plans to give another long term relationship a go. I liked these two together as a couple – from when they first meet and Brady wants to help Lilah out because he’s pretty sure she’s homeless (she’s not), to later in the book where Lilah ends up an injured (and grumpy) patient. There’re so many animals in this book and you’re going to know most of them by name and personality. Shalvis does an excellent job writing the animals too. However I must admit I’m not as interested in this as many readers will be. I’m not really an animal person (don’t hate them, but also never have anything to do with them), so some of their quirks were completely lost on me. The times there were a dozen creatures in the room I wasn’t thinking about how cute they were as much as how much it must stink! This book was great fun and featured some great characters. What stopped it from being a five star read for me (and many of this author’s books are) was that it didn’t have anything in particular that made it special enough. Unlike the author’s other recent release I read (Simply Irresistible), it’s not going to make it onto my favourites shelf. Even so, it’s definitely worth a read.
