About this audiobook

In the college town of Morganville, vampires and humans have coexisted in (relatively) bloodless harmony...until the arrival of Bishop, a master vampire who threatens to put the evil back in evil undead and smash the fragile peace. But Bishop isn't the only threat....

Violent black clouds promise a storm of devastating proportions. As student Claire Danvers and her friends prepare to defend Morganville against the elements-both natural and unnatural-the unexpected happens: Morganville's vampires begin to vanish one by one. Discovering why leads Claire to one last choice: Swear allegiance to Bishop...or die.

This is a good addition to the Morganville Vampires series. It would have gotten 4 stars if it weren't for the author's deplorable penchant for ending these books with a cliffhanger. I tend to view suspenseful endings with a bit of suspicion--did the author not think the reader would buy another book without the urgency of putting characters in danger?

That aside, there's some nice attention to detail, growth of various characters and an exciting plot. Definitely worth reading.

Book five in Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampires series. A light and enjoyable read, but also perhaps a little light on actual plot. I'm keen to read the next book to know what happens next, but I would have liked more development in THIS book.

This one was amazing. It's full of tension and suspense and it was literally impossible to put down. The war has started, and the vampires and humans find themselves working together to defeat a common enemy. It started off a bit slow, but once all the characters were back together, it was excellent. The plot has become quite complex, and there are so many characters to keep track of, but it wasn't hard to follow. The ending was scary, and not what I expected, so I'm hoping it changes in the next book.

This action-packed book will have your heart racing. Seriously, you need to have book 6 (Carpe Corpus) in your possession before you begin reading Lord of Misrule. The action never stops in this book. The fight between Bishop and Amelie continues. Vampires are dropping dead all over the place, spacing out and going into the sunshine to answer a call to regroup. The romance between Claire and Shane deepens just as they are in more danger than ever before. Myrnin is his usual self, still experiencing bouts of sanity along with his madness. The "good" characters keep getting better, and the villains are much, much worse than they've ever been before. An outstanding addition to The Morganville Vampires series!

Lord Of MisruleBy Rachel CaineI am in awe of Rachel Caine and this series. Each book continues to maintain a high level of excitement and a total infusion into the life of the characters. I feel as though I know Claire Danvers even as her character strengthens and grows. I believe that Claire amazes herself as she struggle to find a cure for what is ailing the vampires of Morganville and maintain the lives of her friends and family. The town is in chaos…houses and buildings are burning and Claire remains strong and true. I am literally almost reading a book every other day and I have no favorites…just the compulsion to enjoy each book thoroughly as I am enmeshed totally in the lives of the key characters of Morganville. Bishop and Myrnin and Amelie and Oliver and Michael and Sam…are the vampires that again are key in this battle of strength and wits and magic. All of the elements in this book and within this series are in perfect harmony with just enough surprises to keep me reading with utter excitement. Whew!!!

This book moves the story along, and as with the others engages the reader nicely making their increasingly unrealistic situation plausible and even worrying. It's well written, and whilst there are parts where I'd like it go further (I haven't counted as a young adult since before the term was coined) I find it fun enough. My problem is rather structural. Each book in the series, and it's becoming clearer and clearer, reminds me of a TV series from my childhood. You recover from the previous cliff-hanger, build a new bit of story, then build to the next cliff-hanger. This is a story-telling style in the TV industry that has died - even in heavily arced shows like Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica etc. you don't have endless To Be Continued... episodes. Even though you know the next episode will pick up in the next few hours and there are long on-going stories, there are ends to the big chunks before another comes along, even though minor elements this week might become bigger elements in two weeks time. And, of course, we all know that TV shows have to fit into a straight jacket of a 1h slot (including adverts), so we're perhaps more willing to accept every now and again a story that doesn't fit neatly into a single part. With a book though, you can just make the book longer and finish the story. It's a shame, because I like the setting and the characters, but the structure is starting to get in the way of liking the story.

"Lord of Misrule" continues the fabulous "Morganville Vampire" series in this fifth installment. "Feast of Fools" left off with war breaking out between powerful vampire of the city Amelie and her even scarier dad Mr. Bishop. Bishop wants to take over Morganville from under Amelie's rule and the vampires of the city are picking side. As the fourth book ends, the city is burning and bottled and bagged blood is scarse. Previous enemies have to work together in their common goals and danger is around every character. "Lord of Misrule" picks up right after the events in "Feast of Fools". Bishop is trying to get the "cure" for the vampire disease from Claire and Mernin. He is also plotting to overthow Amelie in a confrontation at the City Hall. To complicate matters, there is a huge tornado heading their way, and the public has been told to go to City Hall for shelter. Some of the town's humans have decided to take this moment of choas and rebel against the vampires as well. There are more subplots than I can even mention here, but all are connected and well crafted. Rachel Caine is a master storyteller and I think she shows that here even more than she does in her "Weather Wardens" series for adults. "Lord of Misrule" is literally 256 pages of non-stop intense action. Claire and her friends jump from one dangerous moment to another. All this action is surely leading to a final confrontation, and I for one, am truly excited about being along for the ride. This series is a model of intelligent, fun, paranormal adventure for adults and young adults alike. I can't encourage readers to pick up this series strongly enough.

Lord of Misrule was a filler book, IMO. Until the very end, (which was a cliff-hanger, of course) nothing much was really going on. There's a battle for control of Morganville going on between Amelie and her father, Bishop. The gang is doing what they can to help Amelie. That's about it really.

This is another one of those series where the story draws me in and I read the book in one sitting because I just have to know what happens next. And the cliffhanger endings just kill me when I can't get the next book right away.As much as I love the story, I have to only give it 4 stars because the writing is only so so.Lots of surprises in this one that I really wasn't expecting. I won't say more so as not to spoil but I can't wait for the next one to find out what happens next.

This book centered around a singular event, and the outcome of that event has the potential to change everything that the town of Morganville is about and how it is run. I found the plot of this book to be very unpredictable - which is a good thing - except for the fact that every book always centers around Claire and the choices she makes. The one-liners are as fantastic as always, and I love the introduction of a few new characters, such as Theo and his family, and the ex-Marine Hannah. I also found the introduction of a natural disaster as a major plot point to be refreshing - even though terrifying for the characters - since few books I read seem to work uncontrollable bad weather into the plot. For less than 300 pages, this book packs alot of sub-plots in, with the retribution against Monica, who I'm not convinced has learned from her mistakes yet, managing Mynin's bipolar behavior, and keeping track of what is happening with each of the four main characters/ Glass House residents. All of the possibilities in a town gone anarchic are explored to some degree, although I found that the lines that were used to control the college students to be less-than-believable. I am curious to see what happens to the human factions that were trying to exploit the mini-war by rebeling against the Powers That Be in the next book, Carpe Corpus (Morganville Vampires, Book 6), as well as how Mynin's disease plays out as it affects others en masse. The fact that Claire basically hardly ever goes to class and still manages to makes A's still bugs me, but I'm getting used to it. She has more exciting things to attend to!

I don't know. I loved the earlier books but this one had too much suspense and fighting. Ha! I mean it. I like a little bit of that, and good plots need it. I mean, the Lord of the Rings is my all time favorite book. However, I, um, skimmed through the battles in it.I found myself skimming too much to ever get into this book. Nothing else seemed to ever happen.Ho hum. I hope the next book is better. Is there a Cliff Notes for Lord of Misrule?

Felt like there was too much differing stuff shoved into this book. Still, I wanna know what happens next - that's pretty much my whole reason for reading this series. The author's Weather Wardens series is at least fun.

I wanted to read Feast of Fools because The Morganville Vampire series has become an addiction lately, and I had to know what was happening with Claire the main character, how she would be selfless and help her friends. I also wanted to see more of her romance with Shane, because I think they are a great compliment to one another. The usual cast of characters are in this one and I love them just as much as always. They are taking big risks because of what is at stake and it was hard to watch because as much as I am attached to them I was afraid of what could happen to them. Bishop is back and to make things more complicated than ever alliances are shifting. Some want Amelie, and others believe the lies of Bishop, or don't want the peace. Some humans want all the vamps dead, some vampires want the humans to be even lower than current-- just prey with no power in the town. The twists in this one had me nervous. Some people seem to have too much power and it is hard trusting people who have crossed them in the past. And so much on Myrnin's shoulders with his shifting moods and the degenerative disease that effects memory, strength and his self control with humans. Claire always seems to be able to draw out the best in him, and have the words to bring him off of the edge. The ending as usual made me want to have the next one right away, and in this case, I had time to go ahead and get the next one. Bottom Line: Loving the series, new issues arise and I am on edge of seat for how they'll prevail.

Be aware that you will need to read the other books in the series in order to fully understand the world of the Morganville Vampire Series.Glass HousesDead Girls’ DanceMidnight AlleyFeast of FoolsLord of MisruleLORD OF MISRULE picks up right where FEAST OF FOOLS leaves off. Bishop is in town and Morganville is on fire. Vampires are choosing sides and the humans are using the confusion to rally together and try for a take over themselves. Claire, Shane, Michael, and Eve have their hands full and danger is around every corner. Amelie gives everyone a job. I have to say that I was a bit frustrated with this book because it isn’t really a novel at all on its own. I don’t really like it when authors don’t give any kind of closure to their novels. Lord of Misrule picked up exactly where Feast of Fools left off and leaves off in the middle of the story for Carpe Corpus to pick up. If Rachel Caine felt the need to make this segment of the story longer she should have combined Feast of Fools, Lord of Misrule and Carpe Corpus into one novel, because on their own none of them are really full books, they’re merely parts. But anyway, now that I’m done complaining, I did think that the story was very good. Morganville is becoming more dangerous by the minute and the action is building as never before into the other novels. I do like the fact that Caine isn’t making her books short little episodes anymore but is really getting into the story. She may not be the greatest writer but she has a strong voice and an interesting story to tell. My frustrations are mostly the result of one of my own pet peeves rather than any fault with the novel so I would still recommend it to Morganville fans.

Rachel Caine is a breath of fresh air in a time when vampires run rampant among the bookshelves. Artistic, eloquent, and intriguing are just a few of the words I would use to describe her writing. She has created a town the likes of which no one has ever seen before, where vampire rule both the night and the day, where humans serve their vampires with no questions asked, and where leaving isn’t an option.

What an intense journey for the four that lives in the Glass House. Even though the ending to this book was horrific, it was my favorite ending by far!
