About this audiobook

Every day Charles Schine rides the 8:43 to do the job he has done for over a decade in a New York advertising agency. With a wife and an ill child who depend on him, Charles is not a man who likes changes or takes risks...until he is later for his regular train, and sits down across from the woman of his dreams. Her name is Lucinda. Like Charles, she is married. Like Charles, she takes the train every day to work in New York City. Her train is the 9:05, and tomorrow she will be on it again, and so will Charles. For there is something about Lucinda, the flash of thigh beneath her short skirt, the way every man on the train is eyeing her, something about this time of the morning that will make Charles take a chance he shouldn't take, break a vow he shouldn't break, and enter a room he should never enter. In a matter of days, a flirtation turns to a passion, and Charles and Lucinda are drawn into the dark side of the American Dream. In a matter of weeks, Charles's life is in shambles. A man is dead. A small fortune is stolen. Charles's home is violated and everything violently spirals out of control. But Charles is about to discover that once you leave the straight and narrow, getting back on track is the most perilous journey of all. And for Charles, that journey - of lies, terror, and deception - has just begun.

James Siegal's cautionary tale about a middle life crisis gone awry is just plain awesome and thoroughly entertaining. Charles Shine is an ordinary, bland 45 year old advertising executive who indulges in an elicit love affair with a beautiful women he meets by happen-chance in a commuter train. The story in a spectacularly violent fashion unravels from there, as Charles fights to reclaim his dignity, money and family. Dead bodies start to pile up and Charles Shine emerges as sort of kick ass kind of guy, but there is still something distasteful about his character. I guess I feel he brought all this disaster on himself, but I still enjoyed seeing him lay his traps for his enemies.

A clever debut with several plot twists, once you get past a rather nasty violent section, which you realize subsequently has a very specific purpose for the reader, without giving too much away. Very easy to see into the mind of Charles Schine as he embarks on a fateful journey in every sense, understand and empathasize with his rationale which seals his fate.

This book came out of nowhere!! I am an avid reader mostly Patterson, Baldacci, Child, Robb,!any Clancy. I do not usually have any other authors because of time restraints, but I chose this one and thought it was going to be a typical book but I am very satisfied! The author has plenty of twists and new plots I did not see coming!! Definitely a great read and listen with amazing narration!! I will be ready to get the next one by the author!!! Thank you! Great book! The movie was good, but the original story and differences from it make it very much worth reading.

The writing was good. I didn't like the story or the character. I wanted to stop reading it several times, but figured I was so far in I might as well finish. I hoped it would get better.

Gripping narration and plenty of plot twists some of which are pretty obvious. Completely implausible at some points.
