About this audiobook

“[Odd Thomas is] one of the most remarkable and appealing characters in current fiction.” —The Virginian-Pilot

There's room at the inn. But you might not get out.

Nestled on a lonely stretch along the Pacific coast, quaint roadside outpost Harmony Corner offers everything a weary traveler needs—a cozy diner, a handy service station, a cluster of motel rooms…and the Harmony family homestead presiding over it all. But when Odd Thomas and company stop to spend the night, they discover that there’s more to this secluded haven than meets the eye—and that between life and death, there is something more frightening than either.

“Koontz gives [Odd Thomas] wit, good humor, a familiarity with the dark side of humanity—and moral outrage.” —USA Today

“Supernatural thrills with a side of laughs.” —The Denver Post

Good story, as with all of this series. I like the touch of the addition of Jolene's commentary as part of the story.

Odd Interlude by Dean Koontz is book #4.5 in the Odd Thomas series. It has been released in two ways, firstly in three volumes (#4.1, #4.2 and #4.3) and secondly collated in one volume or novella, which is what I read.Odd Interlude follows straight on from Odd Hours, but don't worry if you don't remember the plot line (or haven't read it), the gaps are cleverly filled in for the reader along the way.In this adventure, Odd travels a short distance to Harmony Corner where he senses evil and stops to help the citizens being held against their will. Annamaria is Odd's travel companion and plays a minor role in Odd Interlude . I was keen to find out more about her, but perhaps that will come in the next book.I was surprised there were no bodachs in the story (shadowy entities that flock to a person or area prior to death or disaster), but hopefully they'll reappear in Odd Apocalypse, the next in the series.I've been following Odd Thomas since the very beginning of the series which is concluding this year with Saint Odd: An Odd Thomas Novel, due to be published in December 2014. Of course, there's also the Odd Thomas movie, which was released in 2013. Has anyone seen it or read the books?

The story is pretty good. However the audio has many 30+serving gaps in it. Many at integral parts of the story.

I grieve the fact that these characters are not real, as I loved them all so much! Mr. Koontz artfully spins a story that frightens, amuses, and brings tears to my eyes. The narrator (more accurately --actor) does a superb job and completely adds to my love of this audiobook. Great thanks to the both of them.

A terrific build up to Odd Apocalypse. It's been a few years since I've read an Odd Thomas novel, so this brought me back into that world and got me ready for the latest adventure of Odd Thomas.

This is available as a Kindle book (actually, three installments, numbered - Odd-ly enough - 1, 2 and 3, but they constitute one novel intended as a free-standing story between events in Odd Hours and the up-coming Odd Apocalypse). The story involves a small town located by a highway exit not far from a supposedly closed Army base. The town (which actually is populated by members of the same family who run the motel, diner and service station at the exit) has, for five years, been under the influence of some "force" that has terrorized the whole family and controls their entire lives. Odd sets out to free the inhabitants of the town. The story is not quite like the other Odd Thomas books - it lacks much of the essence of Odd that sets the other stories in the series apart, but it does have a nice sense of suspense about it. Some parts felt a bit contrived, and that's a bit disappointing. The concept of presenting the story in three individually purchased segments is interesting. If, after buying the first, you don't care for the story, you needn't buy the rest, thus saving money; however, if used unscrupulously, it could be used as a tool to increase the overall price of the book, by hooking you onto the story, then "forcing" you to continue paying to finish the read. Fortunately, Koontz and Amazon use their powers properly, charging only $1.99 per segment, totaling up $5.97 for a complete, novel-length story. I think this is a fair price, and a reasonable price to pay for a fairly good story.

Koontz is always entertaining. The lesser stakes makes this even more of a light read compared to the previous save the world/cities. Always filled with interesting characters.

Fifth book in the series, which I'm reading after the smash conclusion. So, this is background. Our hero, fry cook extraordinaire, was last seen fighting some queerish monster when I put down the book and went to do something else with my time. i did enjoy Boo, the ghostly dog. The witty repartee with the goul was also quite entertaining. But, alas, overall boooring with a plot that was hard to follow.,,why are we here, again?

Read this one over the weekend and enjoyed it very much. I always like Odd Thomas's approach to the world. This book was originally published in electronic format and was just a little filler story in between two of the larger Odd Thomas novels. It is different from the other books in a couple of ways and it is not quite as well crafted, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. One difference in this story is that it briefly includes narrative by another character, Jolie Harmony, who is another fun and refreshing voice. Also, this story deals more with science fiction issues than the supernatural. One troubling aspect is the apparently superfluous Annamaria. She and Odd are traveling together (from one novel to the next) and they are drawn to Harmony Corner. Then Annamaria apparently just hangs out in her cabin while Odd goes off to fight evil. Why is Annamaria not threatened? Why doesn't she help out? Why can't Odd use the car they have rather than stealing someone else's?My guess is that, if you've sought out this book, you're probably already a fan of young Mr. Thomas and may be willing to forgive Mr. Koontz the few flaws in this story. Mostly, this is a typical entertaining Oddie adventure!

The best thing is the plot of the book. It just keeps moving and I found myself really wondering what would happen next.

Yet another Odd Thomas adventure, well, actually novella. Odd Thomas has just enough snark and self deprecation to be a brilliant, slacker, supernatural hero. Bonus: this one includes a dash of Lovecraft.

Odd Interlude: A Special Odd Thomas Adventure by Dean KoontzI'm not sure what I think of this book, it is spooky, hypnotic, mesmerizing, surprising, creepy, funny and weird. The plot is simple: Odd, Annamaria and the dogs (Raphael & Boo the ghostdog) arrive in Harmony Corners, something extremely strange is going on, Odd gets to the bottom of it and saves the day. The beauty of this short tale is in the writing. Koontz weaves the story like he's creating a tapestry of words. I read huge pieces of it aloud to anyone that would stand still and listen! Not much development of characters but that's fine, there is enough swashbuckling action and fantastical out of this world 'stuff' to keep Odd fans happy until the next novel hits the shelves. 3 stars

Poor Odd, there is apparently nothing normal on Earth. Everywhere he goes he finds evil. This is a localized one, not easily taken care of, but he finds some interesting possible future helpers and friends. Ed opens endless possibilities by himself.....

It seems to be made up of an amalgum of elements of other stories by Koontz.

I love the Odd Thomas books. These three novellas make a compelling story. I can't wait to read another installment of the Odd Thomas story. I hope to reconnect with Jolie and Ed in a future Odd Thomas or Dean Koontz book.
