About this audiobook

Is this Artemis fowl's Last stand?

Artemis Fowl's archenemy Opal Koboi has masterminded a way to simultaneously secure her release from prison and bring the human and fairy worlds to their knees. And, unless Artemis can stop her, the evil pixie's next move will destroy all human life on earth.

Ground zero is the Fowl Estate, where Opal has reanimated fairy warriors who were buried there thousands of years ago. Their spirits have possessed any vessels they can find-corpses, Artemis's little brothers, assorted wildlife-and they are bound to obey Opal's every command. Defeating the motley troops and their diabolical leader will require all of Artemis's cleverness-as well as Butler's bravery, Holly's skill, and Foaly's gadgetry. But if their best efforts aren't enough, Armageddon will surely follow.

New York Times best-selling author and comic genius Eoin Colfer will leave Artemis Fowl fans gasping up to the very end of this thrilling finale to the blockbuster series.

The final book in the Artemis Fowl series. This conclusion to the series is about Artemis's arch enemy using one last plan to bring the human and fairy world to their knees. This book will keep you excited throughout it and you'll have to read it to see what happens. I love the Artemis Fowl books. So i also enjoyed this one too, it has everything i wanted except a little more planning maybe. I would love to read others of Eoin's books like The Supernaturalist. I would reccomend this book to any fantasy lover, well, any book lover really. This series is a great one and its going to be hard to find a series better then this one.

Artemis Fowl and Holly Short never fail to entertain. A fun, exciting romp through the magical world. Opal Koboi is at her nastiest, most evil self. Good closure for Fowl and the gang.

Artemis Fowl: The Last Guardian is a great story about teenage mastermind Artemis Fowl, and his partners Butler, Holly Short and Mulch thwarting a devious plan hatched by crazed pixie Opal Koboi to exterminate all the humans from the world. The story begins with Opal Koboi killing her past self, who is in the future, which creates a paradox, and causes anything made by Koboi in the past 2 years to violently explode. To prevent Atlantis from falling to ruins, fairies put her into a nuclear containment facility. The blast destroys all technology that she had influenced, which leads to most fairy and human technology (because Koboi chips made their way onto the human black market), to stop working. As a side affect, Opal Koboi is granted extremely dangerous Dark Magic. She ventures to the Fowl estate, where she opens the Berserker's Gate, which releases the souls of trapped fairies who died in the Battle of Taillte, an ancient war fought nearly ten thousand years ago against the humans and fairies. These spirits have largely decayed, and returned to the Earth, but some are leftover, and those assume the bodies of Juliet (Butler's sister), Artemis' twin brothers, and various corpses and animals. Opal Koboi uses these enslaved bodies to protect the Berserker's Gate while she unlocks the second lock, which kills all humans, and to remove any means of escape/attack available that could hinder Opal's progress. However, Opal manages to open the second lock, but in her triumph, she demands Artemis and Holly to bow before her. But Artemis is one step ahead of Opal, and instead of bringing Holly along, he brings Nopal, a clone made by Opal during "The Opal Deception", and uses a piece of undamaged fairy technology to give Nopal's face appear like Holly's. Opal doesn't realize this, and becomes complacent. In the end, Artemis manages to open the first lock, which brings all fairy souls back to the Earth. Artemis is caught in this magic, because he has a fairy eye, and is killed.Months later, Foaly and Holly return to Fowl Manor, because they had successfully grown a clone of Artemis, however, with 6 toes on each foot, from his DNA. They place it near the sight where Artemis died, and his soul inhibits his body. However, he undergoes severe memory loss, and the story ends on the first line of the first book.I think this is a fantastic read, and encourage other people to read this book.~Nathan Wong

Artemis Fowl's archenemy, the evil pixie Opal Koboi with an intellect to match Artemis' own, has devised a prison escape that has the added benefit of destroying the Human population of Earth. The Artemis Fowl estate is where the final battle takes place as Artemis and companions fight to keep Opal from opening a portal that will seal the fate of humanity. The fight is complicated by the fact that Opal has reanimated Fairy warriors buried there thousands of years ago, who now take bodily form by possessing whatever bodies are handy... including Artemis' young brothers and Butler's sister Juliet. This is a worthy end to the series, with a conclusion that shows the extent of Artemis' growth and maturation. Artemis to Holly just before his final move against Opal: "I was a broken boy, and you fixed me. Thank you." I've immensely enjoyed the whole "Artemis Fowl" series. It has style, humor, wit, guile, and greed, and has steadily grown as Artemis has grown from an amoral genius and thief to a young man who is ready to sacrifice all for those who have become dear to him. I look forward to re-reading the books in sequence some day.

Hmph. Mr. Colfer, what exactly were you trying to do with this book? If your answer is: "I wanted to make a boring and trite end to a long running, and rather successful, series." congratulations! That's a perfect description of this book. I grew up with Artemis Fowl, and he was always one of the most dependable characters: brilliant, arrogant, with a taste for the most wonderfully heinous crimes, he was the truly intelligent thief. Even as he started to change towards a more positive person, Eoin Colfer had never lost the core of what it meant to be Artemis. Until this book. I cannot tell you how many times I've read series' where the first number of books are brilliant and the last one atrocious. I have reviews for at least two such series' here on Goodreads. Prepared for another! This book doesn't deal with certain plot points from the last book, and doesn't even resolve certain plot irregularities from within the current novel. At the end the book sort of trails off, as if Mr. Colfer couldn't quite believe that he was done writing. I had high hopes; I grew up with the series after all, but it was all for naught.

Artemis Fowl, a boy who is a great inventor, is mischievious and kind. Artemis Fowl and his friends are out to stop an evil pixie named Opal Koboi. Artimis Fowl uses the plan he invented, a solar plane that has super laser in the nose, for a special mission.

Well done; fast paced. Unnamed people die as the evil fairy Opal Koboi does her best to kill all humans and conquer the fairy world. The coded message at the bottom of the pages continues.

I started this series when it first came out (I was 12) and for years followed the release of its volumes with devotion, buying each one the week it came out and reading it immediately. But when the 6th book was published somewhere near the end of high school I just wasn't as interested anymore. I still bought the books but wasn't a big fan of the 7th book either and have been putting off reading this final book for almost 3 years now.

That said, I really enjoyed The Last Guardian. I may be a bit more critical of the plot lines in these books than I was when I was a teenager, I am still all about the characters Eoin Colfer has created. I just love them, and I think this was a good place to wrap up a great (although also pretty weird) series. <3

ps. Severely underestimated just how attached to this series I apparently still am and got very emotional while reading.

This is the perfect ending to a glorious series. I wouldn't want it any other way. It's explosive and thrilling from cover to cover. I loved the Fowl twins; can we have a book around them? Or just LEP in general - I need more Foaly and his lady in my life. I have a feeling Colfer isn't returning to the world of Artemis Fowl any time soon, judging by all the sequels he's writing to his other series - but if that's true, that's actually all right. The end of this book was awesome and really puts the entire series in a new light, if you choose to believe that Holly has been telling the story of Artemis from the beginning the entire time, which I do.

Definitely a satisfying wrap up to the series. Tho I would have liked a bit more of the twins and a bit less of the newer and distinctly icky book jackets. SIGH.

I restarted this book 2/4 and finished 2/10 what an amazing end to the series! I really enjoy how Artemis grew and changed through the series and I'm sad that it's come to an end.

It was a bit of a relief to finish this series. It felt a bit to me like they were just trying to squeeze one more book in there before everyone stopped caring about the series. The series was starting to feel overextended, like butter spread over too much bread, perhaps? It was nice that some of the previous books’ loose threads were tied up an finished off, and it was an interesting story, but there are only so many times Opal Koboi can ruin the day with her (not so)genius plans, and Mulch Diggums can fart his and everyone else’s way out of it.
I am not a huge fan of the whole ‘over intelligent baby who talks more than they should’ thing in any book (or any media form for that matter) so I did not really enjoy the young Fowls.
I did enjoy Foaly and his wife. Throughout the entire series he has been my favorite part and I was not disappointed when it came to his story lines.
I was disappointed in the effort put into the Berserker’s history etc. and was honestly left wondering half hearted what these guys were all about.
I think that the ending was such a cop-out.
I just really am exhausted by the thought of even thinking about this book long enough to review it that I’m not even going to continue. It wasn't horrible but drawn out and exhausting.

Read in summer 2012 and listened to audiobook in March 2013 as part of the YALSA Hub challenge. I actually liked the audiobook better. Great narration, captured the humor and tension of the situation for each character really well. Varied pacing and accents. Not recommended for anyone who has not followed the series since the beginning.

Very clever (like all the Artemis Fowl Books). Some of the details surrounding Opal's master plot were confusing (perhaps because I listened rather than read the book) but overall worth reading.

The final installment in the Artemis Fowl series or so it would seem. Opal Koboi has her biggest take over the world plot, Mulch Diggums has his biggest flatulence, and Artemis has his ultimate moment of genius. And sacrifice. Colfer's humor stands out as Koboi raises an army with her minions occupying the bodies of the dead with comic results. It's a nice distraction from the grim reality of a story that puts the entire world in peril. This is a strong finale the series.

So schreibt man Fortsetzungen Herr Bradley!

I would give this 4.5 stars. Possibly my favorite Artemis Fowl book and an awesome end to the series. I hardly ever read the second book in a series, let alone the entire thing. It was the humor that really kept me going. The characters are super fun too. And the narrator? Awesome. In fact, I highly suggest listening to this series, even if you're normally not a fan of audiobooks. He's that good.

Great story telling and a great plot to finish Artemis and Holly's saga. The ending was notwhat I was expecting though in the sense that I thought it was a little outlandish, even for Artemis and Holly and that we didn't have that big HEA everybody was waiting that Artemis and Holly would get, as in they finally told eachother that they loved one another and would be happy together. Good finish nonetheless. A sad time to let Artemis and Holly go for good now.

Artemis has been dealing with his mental issues left over after the last incident, he's almost done with the counselling and his mind is mostly back to what it was. Opal Kenobi sparks a sequence of events that could mean the end of humanity and he has to help cope with it, save his brothers and keep as many people he cares for alive as possible. Opal is deranged and she might just do anything to wreak her revenge.I thought the end was a bit weak, Artemis deserved better.

The last Artemis Fowl must receive four stars from me, although, sadly, it does not merit four full stars. Artemis falls short of the mark (his trademark intellect seems somewhat lacking) and the ending left me sputtering. I feel as though he rushed toward it and then copped out at the last minute.

Then again, a lot of the book seemed somewhat contrived. I'm unhappy to find out that characters introduced earlier, as well as important story arcs, never see the light of day.

And this, my dears, is what fanfiction is for.

The Last Guardian is the final book in the Artemis Fowl series. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Nathaniel Parker, who does an excellent job. In terms of plot, I found this book better than its predecessor, but not quite on par with the early books in the series. Worth reading to finish off the series, but not so excellent as to put the series on the radar for anyone who was not already interested.

Summary: Artemis Fowl knew that he hadn't heard the last of his arch-nemesis, pixie Opal Koboi. So when the current Opal (who's held in a maximum security fairy prison) arranges to have a past version of herself (who is in the present after following Artemis through a time tunnel from the past) kidnapped and assassinated, Artemis knows that things are going to get bad in a hurry. By destroying her own past self, Opal causes a paradox that destroys all technology created by Koboi Laboratories in the past few years. But she's got bigger schemes than just throwing the fairy and human worlds into chaos... it's all part of a grand plan to wipe humanity off the face of the planet - starting with Artemis's family. And once again, it's only Artemis, along with the help of Holly, Butler, Mulch, and Foaly, who will have any chance of foiling Opal's plans before it's too late.Review: I've had a lot of fun with this series. They're fast-paced, action-packed, and funny, but they're also smart and don't talk down to their audience, which makes them better crossover reads than a lot of other mid-grade fantasy adventure stories out there. So, I've really enjoyed listening to them over the past few years, but I also absolutely see why Colfer chose to end the series where he did.The series as a whole has a nice arc to it, and the characters do grow and change and mature over the course of the series. That's nice to read, and it gives the stories a certain emotional core that they would otherwise lack. However, I have to admit, Artemis the cocky, self-absorbed, mostly conscienceless genius criminal mastermind of the first book or two was kind of more fun than Artemis the thoughtful, selfless, world-saving genius mastermind. And Colfer knew that (I'd bet bratty Artemis was also more fun to write), and so he brought the series to a solid conclusion here. This book was all of the things that I've liked about the other books - fast paced, action packed, funny, clever, good twists and turns that I didn't always see coming - and it also served as a fitting way to wrap up the series as a whole, and put a satisfying narrative cap on everything that's come before. 4 out of 5 stars.Recommendation: Definitely don't start here, but the series is a solidly, reliably fun read that's recommended for mid-graders on up through adults that need something fun and lighthearted every once in a while.

This book was an excellent end to the Artemis Fowl series! The whole thing is full of action and mystery, dire enough that it leaves you biting your nails wondering how on earth Artemis is going to get out of this one! Everything seems hopeless right from the beginning!

I absolutely loved the interaction of the characters, but mostly Artemis's thoughts and actions throughout! I was not hugely thrilled with the ending, but only enough to possibly lose a quarter of a star.
