This modern fantasy books tells the story of how the different kinds of dinosaurs behave when they are going to bed. Each dinosaur goes through a routine. Some dinosaurs throw tantrums, some want a piggyback ride, others wanted to be hyperactive. In the end, all of the dinosaurs kiss their parents goodnight and go to bed.

How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night is a another rhyming story by Jane Yolen. She shows typical bedtime mannerisms by dinosaurs, but also by most kids. A father comes in to tell his dinosaur goodnight and the dinosaurs obviously do not want to go to bed. They throw tantrums, the fall down and cry, they ferociously nod no, all things children would do if they were put in that situation. The questions in the book are always hypothetical. She generally wants you to form your own opinion about how YOU think dinosaurs would act, but by the end of the book you see that the dinosaurs are not like that at all. They actually just listen and give snuggles and kisses and are eager to go to bed. Definitely not the ending I was expecting, but a great ending nonetheless.

SUMMARYIt's time for moms and dads to get their dinosaurs to bed. They wonder whether the dinosaurs will cry or roar or want another book read to them. However, all the dinosaurs are well-behaved and give their parents a kiss and say goodnight.REVIEWI think that this book is very cute. I love that the main characters are dinosaurs rather than children because it adds an element of humor to the story. I like that the author uses the dinosaurs as a way to model appropriate bedtime behavior. I also appreciate that the name of each dinosaur is included in the illustration, like the name allosaurus on a door. It also includes all of the dinosaur names and pictures at the beginning and end of the book.

Jane Yolen and Mark Teague help children relate to what to do and not to do when saying goodnight to mom and dad. Some children may throw fits when finding out they have to go to bed and try to procrasinate but this wonderful book shows children that it is not a good idea to through a fit or try to make excuses of avoiding bed time. This book is fun and adorable for young children who are having trouble going to bed. Every parent can appreciate a fun book like this one!

This adorable book tells a very relatable tale about how a dinosaur might go to bed, listing all of the not-so-desirable behaviors he might demonstrate before settling in for a good night's sleep, followed by much more desirable behaviors. This would be a perfect book for parents and young children to read together, and also for teachers to read aloud when wishing to introduce a lesson on good behavior in general. After being read to the class, the teacher could have the students brainstorm all of the behaviors that would not be acceptable in class or elsewhere in the school, followed by all of the acceptable behaviors that the school and teachers wish to see occurring. The themes of respect, obedience, appropriate behavior, and love are all ones that could be shared beneficially in the classroom, and would be sure to elicit laughs from the younger set.

In the story, How do dinosaurs say good night, page after page we embrace a series of questions. "Does he throw his teddy bear all about," is an example of the of the questions we see as the little dinosaur gets put down to sleep. As a child we can relate to the troubles of going to sleep. In this book, I loved how relatable the story is and how children can make a connection with the text.

This a clever way of teaching bedtime manners to children. First it gives examples of how dinosaurs should not behave followed by the way they should behave. I would r5easd this to elementary students to encourage good manners.

How do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight by Jane Yolen is about how a dinosaur goes to bed. This story lists all the "wrong" things to do as well as all the "right" things to do. This book is extremely relatable for students and can be used in school as well as at home to teach students about responsibility and good behavior.

This is a great book by one of my favorite authors. How do Dinosaurs Say Good Night has great detail and humor as I would expect from Jane Yolen. It is a new classic bedtime book. I highly recommend this book. The kids in the book are a variety of dinosaurs but how do they say goodnight? In it turns out that they are much like humans They give a big kiss, turn out the light, tuck in their tails, and whisper "good night."

This has been one of my favorite children's books for years. The first time I read it, I fell in love with the imaginative look at how young dinosaurs would act if they were asked to behave as children. Young and old readers alike will laugh out loud at the dinosaurs' ridiculous antics. Just an overall wonderful story with beautiful, colorful illustrations.

Another wonderful bedtime tale. Presents the reader with all the silly excuses children (and dinos!) use when bedtime rolls around. The mom and dad in this story are human so it provides even more entertainment as they try to put the dino to bed! Another great suggestion for parents with students coming to class tired/having trouble sleeping!

I don't know why it's taken me so long to try this first "How Do Dinosaurs..." book from author Jane Yolen and illustrator Mark Teague, but I'm glad that our July dinosaur theme, over in the Picture-Book Club to which I belong prompted me to give it a chance, as How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight is an absolute delight! With a rhyming text that just begs to be read aloud - "How does a dinosaur say goodnight, when Papa comes in to turn off the light? Does a dinosaur slam his tail and pout? Does he throw his teddy bear all about?" - and brightly colored illustrations that capture the humor of each (possible) situation, it makes for an ideal bedtime selection. Highly recommended to all the little dinosaurs out there!

Genre: FantasyReview: This is a book that questions what dinosaurs do when the go to bed. It is a good fantasy book, that children can relate to easily. This is of course a fantasy book because dinosaurs are given human characteristics and act like little kids who don't want to go to bed. Plot: The plot of this story is really well done, because children can relate to this book very well while still seeing the humor of their own actions at bedtime. Media: Not Stated

This book is about all the temper tantrums a dinosaur good throw when being told to go to sleep but that they don't do that. They say goodnight, turn out the light and go to sleep. This would be a good book to use with little boys who are determined not to go to sleep because if dinosaurs don't throw tantrums maybe they won't either.

This story was about dinosaurs going down for their naptime. It showed different ways they may or may not go down for nap. I really did enjoyed the pictures in this story.

Hilarious! A set of examples of very bold dinosaurs refusing to go to bed - followed by the reality of dinosaurs giving nice kisses, tucking in their tails and going to sleep. The art in this is amazing, the frazzled parents, and the dinosaurs with pitch perfect toddler body language under their scales.

Summary: The dinosaurs act just like kids do when getting for bed. They fight it. The dinosaur slam his tale on the ground and throws up a fuss. But then, the dinosaurs end up going to sleep. Response: I like this book because kids could relate to this book leading great discussions. I also like that it talks about good and bad behavior with lots of repetition throughout the book. Theme/Connection: Bedtime; Read Aloud; Discussion on going to bed

Wonderful illustrations and pages that rhyme will captivate students of all ages. Each page features a different dinosaur doing anything it can to keep from going to bed. There is an added level of entertainment since the dinosaurs are having a fit to human parents in human houses.I think this is a very cute book. I would use it in my class when reinforcing rhyme to students. I also think it would be a good book to read just because.

This is a cute little book to read to kindergarten students. It is a book about dinosaurs who are going to bed at night, and it makes children wonder about whether or not they pitch a fit, or jump right into bed at night. It is a great little book to read to children at night who have a hard time going to sleep when their parents ask them.I read this book aloud, mainly because it was about dinosaurs and I have a little boy in my group of students. All my students enjoyed reading this book with me. I would constantly ask them how they thought dinosaurs would say good night as we would read through the pages of the book. At the end of the book, it shows how sweet they are about going to bed, and the students liked to talk about how they go to bed themselves.

I used to read this nightly to my daughter when she was 2-3 - not only is this funny and charming, it made our bedtime routine a breeze. She has always been resistant to bedtime (even now at almost-6), but reading this story always seemed to calm her down. Maybe it was seeing and hearing all the silly (but much performed by my daughter) behavior these dinosaurs *didn't* gave her a reason NOT to behave in similar ways. I still have the ending memorized, though we've moved on to different stories most nights. Now, as she's older, she got a kick out of trying to find and sound out the dinosaur names hidden on each page. Nothing better than finding a new way to appreciate an old, beloved book!

A newer picture book that is quickly becoming a classic. The text is simple with a great read aloud quality, and the illustrations are just adorable. Huge dinosaurs squashed into little kids' rooms, stomping and pouting and throwing fits like two year old children. I love the picture of the Tyrannosaurus Rex "peeking" out of his bedroom door. I bought this book before I had kids because I thought it was great, and I am so delighted that I finally have a chance to read it to my daughter.

Pleasant read aloud about bedtime problems. Added bonus is the use of dinosaurs as the main characters. Each one is identified on the end pages, which spurred many of the children to seek additional books about dinosaur from the nonfiction shelves. There are three other "Dinosaur" behavior books in this series by Jane Yolen--"...Eat Dinner", "...Get Well So Soon", and "...Go to School".

Dinos say goodnight with 'Good Manners', which of course is the point of this great bedtime book. It is presented with humor, in rhyme, and with great illustrations. My grandsons love this book; we have read it many, many times.
