About this audiobook
As co-editor of the Slash, the Harris Elementary/Middle School paper, Adam Canfield is used to getting the story. What he’s not used to is being the story, which is just what happens after he’s mugged by some high-school students for his snow-shoveling money.
But it’s hard to keep a low profile when there’s still baritone and basketball practice, a new principal to figure out, a science fair sham to uncover, a bully survey to monitor, a three-hundred-year-old tree to save, and the next issue of the Slash to take care of. It’s enough to drive a kid over the edge. Luckily, Adam’s got Jennifer, his trusty (and cute!) co-editor, to help him keep it together. But when the Slash is threatened, will they be able to get the story and keep the paper going, all without getting expelled?
Michael Winerip
Michael Winerip is the author of Adam Canfield of the Slash and a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter for the New York Times. He says, “After I finished writing the first Adam Canfield novel, I thought, Well, that’s that. But then Adam, Jennifer, and Phoebe were still staring at me, and I could see immediately that they were not done with their work. They were hungry to report more news stories, anxious to right more wrongs, desperate to tell the truth as they saw it, dying to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. I knew that they needed to get busy doing what they do best, putting out the Slash, the world’s greatest middle-school newspaper. And so you have it, a sequel.” Michael Winerip lives in Lido Beach, New York, with his wife and four children.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I like the moral dimension of this series, and the wordplay - in this one I particularly enjoyed the idea of an 'outrage outage' - something that anyone who has spent any time on Twitter will understand completely. The stories are fun while also managing to be gently educational about the realities of journalism.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This one is a keeper. Prejudices, subtle and otherwise, bullying, science fair and parents helping with homework and finally a decent principal who believes in helping the kids with their paper. There's even a bit about depression though I wish they had gone into that just a bit more since they brought it up.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This Adam Canfield picks up right where Adam Canfield of the Slash left off. The book starts with Adam getting mugged by some high school kids for the money he has made shoveling. Jennifer and Adam are working on multiple stories for the Slash - an expose about the science fair and parent involvement in projects, a bullying survey, and once again they get mixed up with the Bolan's on the area of town known as the Willows. Adam and Jennifer are a likeable, energetic team who deal with some heavy issues lurking behind the surface of their suburban town.
