About this audiobook

Part tell-all, part cautionary tale, this emotionally charged memoir from a former video vixen nicknamed 'Superhead' goes beyond the glamour of celebrity to reveal the inner workings of the hip-hop dancer industry—from the physical and emotional abuse that's rampant in the industry, and which marked her own life—to the excessive use of drugs, sex and bling.

Once the sought-after video girl, this sexy siren has helped multi-platinum artists, such as Jay-Z, R. Kelly and LL Cool J, sell millions of albums with her sensual dancing. In a word, Karrine was H-O-T. So hot that she made as much as $2500 a day in videos and was selected by well-known film director F. Gary Gray to co-star in his film, A Man Apart, starring Vin Diesel. But the film and music video sets, swanky Hollywood and New York restaurants and trysts with the celebrities featured in the pages of People and In Touch magazines only touches the surface of Karrine Steffans' life.

Her journey is filled with physical abuse, rape, drug and alcohol abuse, homelessness and single motherhood—all by the age of 26. By sharing her story, Steffans hopes to shed light on an otherwise romanticised industry and help young women avoid the same pitfalls she encountered. If they're already in danger, she hopes to inspire them to find a way to dig themselves out of what she knows first-hand
to be a cycle of hopelessness and despair.

I have such a new found respect for Karine. She’s beautiful inside and out, although she may not have always made the best choices but I empathize with her. I understand her on a deep level as a woman and survivor, I love how she doesn’t allow anyone to shame her or put labels on her. I hope she has tons of peace these days within herself, with her son, and with life. I learned plenty from this book ?

Annoying use of vocabulary. It’s almost like she uses as big of words as she can to make it sound like it’s intelligently written. Some of the chapters could be condensed into 3 sentences but everything is drawn out to make it more dramatic, but it’s just sad and boring. I’m not saying she is a boring person, or not someone who has something to say, but she needed a co-author who can actually write books. This sounds like a 10th grader writing a story for tenth graders, that gets a “C”. I’m sorry to be rude, I’m judging the writing, not the person.

I liked it ... kind of ended abruptly... I felt she was “sharing”. She never really “got to deep” ... either way it was nice to hear her story -
Despite the abrupt ending ... I gave it a three because it was nice to hear the story however it would’ve been a four if she I had shown some sort of emotions ....

Well she definitely holds nothing back.
She had a horrible childhood . It seems like it drilled in her head that she didn't think much of herself and would do anything to have someone love her.
Why she slept with half the rappers out there and expect them not to label her a hoe is beyond me
After her childhood you would think she wouldn't want a child born into an abusive relationship .
I can handle all the things she did to herself but not caring for your child, letting someone else take care for him ,sleeping in a car is repulsive.
I hope that child is having a great life

I applaud Karrine for speaking out! It’s not easy and she lived a hard life. I’m glad she’s doing better now.

A sad and disheartening portrayal of the usage and abusive side of glamour and how even though a piece of glitter can look sparkly it is only entertained for a moment to be discarded the next.

The author doesn't employ ethics. The book is like reading a tabloid magazine in the grocery store line.

While I wanted to enjoy the story... there is no honor in telling everybody elses dirt.

I give her credit for her honesty, but I can't help but to be annoyed by her decisions. I know she's just telling her truth but it was hard to listen to bad decision one after another and not being able to sympathize with her when she feels burned by them. I'm glad it has a happy ending though and I wish her all the best.

Finished last night March 27. At the end I was getting so disgusted with this woman I wanted to stop reading. Everybody else is to blame and come on, she did not learn anything at all.
What a selfish floozie. How she treated her son, I felt so bad for that little one , her family helped her out and when they stopped she was talking how everybody never helped her.

I thought it was an interesting read the first half of the book was okay, but after a while it became a who ,did I sleep with, is who.

I see she wrote another one after this which has only 1 star out of many reviews and she is still sleeping with celebrities so as expected did not change much at all.
