About this audiobook

Trey Porter and his friends have been chased from their campsite by bullies, and are searching for a new one. One that's absolutely bully-proof. They decide on the legendary fort of Widow Hill, a Revolutionary War relic hidden deep in the forests of Fairfield.

The path to the fort is not an easy one, however, as someone or something is trying to stop them any way it can.

A dark secret awaits Trey Porter. A secret guarded for over two hundred years and desired by every dark creature that lurks in the forest.

Trey promises not to reveal the secret. . . over his dead body.

Mixed thoughts. This is one of the few I didn't hear as a kid, but it was one of my favorites in the series of books. Ultimately, I don't think the wood lizards came off as the intimidating creatures they should be, and while I'm not faulting the child actor playing the main character, I do think the sound team could have done more with the creatures themselves. I also think the abridgement stunted the final confrontation just a bit (the backstory for the two competing factions was truncated a bit from the book). All in all though, not a bad experience- I'm an adult reviewing children's books from back when I was a kid (after listening to them with my own), so I'm trying to play fair. Strange Matter Audio was a standout in the day- there wasn't much else like it, certainly not much else near as accessible (Goosebumps' eventual audio recordings tended to be in specialized stores, but I found copies of Strange Matter Audio on Target shelves, just above the books they were recordings of).

This particular recording isn't the best of the bunch (that falls to Frozen Dinners and Fly The Unfriendly Skies IMO, *if* my memory is right about them... We shall see...

A bit on the boring side gives a bit of the goonies vibe not so scary recommend for smaller kids getting into horror books as a good audiobook.
