Excellent book! I was a little in doubt about a story told by a dog, but a friend recommended it highly so I decided to give it a try. The story seemed to drag a little bit partway through but soon turned around, and by the end Enzo the dog was tugging on my heartstrings and had me reaching for the tissue box. And I appreciated the wisdom in Denny's driving theory that "the car goes where the eyes go". That's a good life lesson for us all.

Overall, I’d say this was pretty good. With all the high rated reviews, though, I think I was expecting more. I thought it was too long for what it was, and somewhat boring. I kept wanting it to be over, and was very glad when it was.

I had just finished reading 'A Dog's Purpose' so I naturally gravitated toward this book. It was no surprise to me, nor off-putting that the storyline is from a dog's perspective.

Enzo is taking stock of his life on the eve of his death. He reminisces about growing up with Denney, his owner, and learning about life, love, car racing, and death.

'The Art of Racing in the Rain' is a heartwarming, and sometimes humorous account of the life of a dog in the midst of human companionship and how that companionship translates into a love that transcends time and place.

A wonderful read with a touching ending. Another five star read.

What a beautiful story...bravo to the main character and how he composed himself throughout the many life challenges he faced. I especially enjoyed Enzo, the faithful loyal dog who is more human than dog...I will never look at my dog the same way! Also great narration. A fabulous book that I would recommend it to anyone.

I might even give it 4.5 stars. Everyone needs an Enzo, the dog through whose eyes this story is told. I very much enjoyed Enzo's simple and heartfelt, yet somewhat philosophic narration of the events that unfold before him. Through his eyes, you are able to care for Denny, Eve, and Zoe, his people. I had been a little unsure of how much I would like it at first, because Denny is a racecar driver, a hobby in which I have close to zero interest. But the racing doesn't take over the story, and it takes place in Seattle, far from the NASCAR-crazed South, giving it a different air-and I think it's a different style of racing entirely. Despite that, I felt myself drawn to all four characters and crying, rejoicing, and running through the park with them.

Seattle Washington - Enzo is different from other dogs. He has acquired a nearly human soul by listening to the words of his master, Denny Swift, a race car driver. He helps Denny through the death of his wife, Eve, & custody battle over his daughter, Zoe. While dying, Enzo, knows he will return as a man. This is a heart-wrenching, funny & uplifting story of family, love, loyalty & hope. I really enjoyed listening to the audio & recommend it.

Adorable book. The narrator is the dog, a very clever dog who would love to have a real thumb.
This book is about love and loss, and all its shapes and forms - including our furry friends.
It is very entertaining and it is definitely binge material.

Very interesting story and themes but from a dog’s point of view. It’s interesting to humanize dogs and sympathize with them because they can’t really express their feelings.
