About this audiobook

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

In this joyous and whimsical holiday novel, Debbie Macomber rings in the season with the return of Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy, delivering laughs, love, and a charming dose of angelic intervention.

Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy know that an angel's work is never done, especially during a time as wondrous as New Year's Eve. With an apprentice angel, Will, under their wings, they descend upon Times Square in New York City eager to join in the festivities. And when Will spies two lonely strangers in the crowd, he decides midnight is the perfect time to lend a heavenly helping hand.

Lucie Farrara and Aren Fairchild meet after bumping into each other-seemingly by accident-in Times Square on New Year's Eve. They immediately hit it off and find they have a lot in common: Lucie is a burgeoning chef and Aren is a respected food critic. But just as quickly as they're brought together, another twist of fate tears them apart, leaving Lucie and Aren with no way to reconnect.

A year later, Lucie is the chef of an acclaimed new restaurant and Aren is a successful columnist for a major New York newspaper. For all the time that's passed, the two have not forgotten their one serendipitous evening-and neither have Shirley, Goodness, Mercy, and Will. To reunite the young couple, the angels cook up a brilliant plan: mix true love, a second chance, and a generous sprinkle of mischief to create an unforgettable Christmas miracle.

Digital audiobook read by Kimberly Farr 2.5** This is a romance set during the holidays, featuring a restaurant chef vs a food critic, with the help/interference of four angels. Angels Shirley, Goodness and Mercy have a new apprentice angel, Will. On New Year’s Eve they make a quick orientation trip to earth, and Will, in his excitement, causes Lucie Farrara and Aren Fairchild to meet. But they weren’t supposed to meet this early in their lives and Angel Gabriel is pretty upset with them for interfering. Fast forward a year later and the angels have to fix the situation. This is a typical schmaltzy Christmas romance with more than a little humor thrown in. Some of the situations are downright ridiculous, and the angels, for all their good intentions, seem mostly inept. But it’s a fun read and everything turns out okay in the end. (Surely, you’re not surprised to read that.)Kimberly Farr is a talented voice artist and she does a fine job reading the audiobook. She kept the action moving along and it was easy to follow. I was a little confused a few times about which angel was speaking, but it really didn’t matter all that much.

I'm giving it 3 stars because I enjoyed the story of Aren and Lucie and I enjoyed Lucie's relationship with her mom, Wendy. I also liked the sibling relationship between Aren and Josie. However, I felt the story could have been told without the angels being in it at all.I realize Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy are apparently beloved characters, but I found them silly. Yes, God is a God of forgiveness, but he's also a God of consequences. If Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy truly are consistently ignoring the rules for Prayer Ambassadors as well as not following Gabriel's instructions, I can't see God letting them continue to be Prayer Ambassadors for Him. What's worse is that they don't seem to have learned from their past mistakes.

Loved the idea for the story, but the angel stuff is just not thought out it seems. Come on, mercy goodness and whatsumaycallit, they are not mischievous, they are idiotic. And all the crap about god loving humans and giving them free will... but of course gabriel is able
To look in the book and tell us about the kids they will have, the novel he will write etc etc ah, but time runs different in heaven...
My 7 year old would laugh at this.

A cute little Christmas story with reminders of two Cary Grant films centered at the holidays. We have angels helping a relationship that may be in danger (Bishop's Wife) and miscommunication/meeting at the Empire State Building (An Affair to Remember). Love always prevails at Christmas.

Christmas stories set my mood for the coming season, and this novel delivers a good start of the season with love, forgiveness, hope, charity, and kindness. Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy bungle God's plan in answering a prayer for Wendy, therefore these angels feel compelled to right the wrong. The three women bring to mind the fairy godmothers in Sleeping Beauty. They are always interfering and causing more trouble. Macomber presents a heart-warming and gentle romance. The story portrays a simple life and simple people. Macomber sugarcoats the language and the plot a little too much.

A light-hearted, delightful, feel-good book. Debbie Macomber always introduces the nice people we'd like to have in our everyday lives. Her characters always feel like good friends, and it's nice to see their happy endings.

I purchased this e-book last year and just getting around to reading it. Not my typical book; however, thought it would be nice to read around the holiday season.

Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy are three angels joined by Will-an angel-in-training. Their job is to help humans realize they can do more with God’s help; however, they are not to interfere (however, they tend to get involved). The four angels gather in Times Square for the ball drop at midnight.
A little silly; however very light read with a message. Lucie (chef) Aren (food critic) prepare for a new romance in the New Year. It is all about God’s timing with the help of some meddling angels.

It’s a good idea for a book; a classic romance where two people are attracted to each other then pulled apart by circumstances and eventually brought back together. A plot which is apparently tireless as it’s so often repeated - and in this case, four bumbling (but well-intentioned) angels add a light-hearted touch that mostly works well. Apparently this is one of a series about these particular angels, but I haven’t read any of the others, and it wasn’t necessary to do so. This novel stands well on its own.

Unfortunately, I didn’t feel that the characters had much depth. The conversations all seem rather stilted, and I never felt that I knew what was going on in their heads, despite the author describing their feelings regularly, sometimes more than once. I was certainly interested enough to keep reading - I wanted to know what would happen - but the somewhat predictable ending was a bit sudden and the change of heart of one of the main characters did not feel realistic.

I don’t feel inspired to read any other books in the series, although it was comfortable enough bedtime reading over the past week or so. Recommended in a low-key way to anyone who enjoys very light, innocent fiction; but it’s not one I shall be reading again.

A classic heartfelt Debbie Macomber story. Light the logs in the fireplace, curl up on the couch and settle into a warm and cozy story for the Christmas holiday. The book is an easy read, as well as an uplifting and delightful story. This is a cute little book, but certainly not an original idea. It reminded me a lot of a Hallmark made-for-TV movie, which is where I prefer these kinds of stories...on my TV. There's something about seeing a sweet love story unfold on my screen that lacked a bit in this story.

Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy return with an apprentice angel named Will in tow. Of course Gabriel is not informed that the trio have taken Will to New York with them to watch the New Year"s Eve festivities in Times Square. Lucie Farara is in the crowd with her girlfriends who have dragged her out to have some fun. Just before the ball drops, she loses track of her friends and meets Aren Fairchild. When the ball drops - and Will intervenes - they share their first kiss. It seems to be love at first sight and they decide to meet a week later at the top of the Empire State Building after they have both had a chance to figure out if their feelings are real. There is one big problem. Lucie and Aren were supposed to meet, but not for another year. Shirley, Goodness, Mercy and Will have to try and fix this problem while trying very hard to follow the rules, not easy for them. This is a great story to read curled up under a blanket, sipping some hot cocoa, while the snow falls outside. It is sweet and sad and funny. The perfect Christmas treat!

Angels at the Table is another fun holiday story about the three angels, Shirley, Goodness and Mercy, and their visit to New York City on New Year's Eve. They bring along an apprentice angel, Will, (from the Bible - "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever) and meddle in a love affair between two strangers who meet in Times Square. Funny, silly and satisfying, this story is highly recommended for all fans of the angels.

Shirley, Goodness and Mercy return this year, with an apprentice angel in tow. This time, the angels positively influence the lives of Lucie and Aren in New York City, with only slight miscommunication and mischief. I always enjoy these quick holiday reads by Macomber and seek them out every year!

The responsibility of training a new Prayer Ambassador was left to Shirley, Goodness and Mercy, so they knew they had to do their best to follow all the rules, to the best of their abilities. The lure of New Years Eve celebrations was just too much, they had to return to Earth to be a part of and see the fun of it all. Showing Will the festivities of the season should not be too hard to follow the rules. In an attempt to get through a breakup, Aren Fairchild moved, took a new job and started a new life. Taking one day to go out with the girls, Lucie Farrara lost track of her friends at the moment of that the ball dropped. Not realizing the consequences that his actions could have, Will allowed Aren and Lucie to have a connection on New Years Eve that was about a year to early. Discovering the mistake, Gabriel gave Shirley, Goodness, Mercy and Will the chance to fix the problem, if only they can do it without breaking anymore of the rules. The connection on Yew Years Eve was such a great one, if only they had exchanged phone numbers they could find each other again. Moving on with their lives was easy enough but forgetting about the other was another story entirely. Book 7 ..... As part of the Shirley, Goodness & Mercy series, it is a good addition. The bonus of having a trainee with them so that they realized what they are doing and how many of the rules they break or at least bend. I really like this series / collection but with this one I really wanted more of the romance, more or Aren and Lucie and maybe a little less of the rehashing of what they are and are not suppose to be doing. Overall a feel good story with a fun foody twist. I am curious if Will is going to be a recurring character or if there will be any more Angels at all.

Always a good read!! Snuggle up under the covers and get ready to not put this book down!! Debbie MaComber has done it again (and so have her angels!! LOL). You have to read the note that Debbie writes in the book BEFORE you start reading the story to see how she gets the idea for the "apprentence angel." Very creative I must say.Shirley, Goodness and Mercy are at it again at the very start of the story. They are showing Will what Earth looks like, without Gabriel knowing about it, and how fascinating it is. It's New Year's Eve in New York and everything is sparkling which is just how Goodness likes it. They head to Earth to give will a sneak peek at the humans and things get started right there. There are two lonely people, Lucie and Aren, who "bump into" each other that night. Lucie is a busy restuarnt chef and Aren is a resturant reviewer who goes by a different name than his own. As things progress it starts out great, then goes downhill when Lucie recieves a very bad review from the restaurant critic, which was partly due to the Angels fault. Gabriel tells them they had better get this fixed without any tricks or interaction by the Angels. Debbie MaCombers characters are always well written and she is a great storyteller.

There are no other angels who can cause such havoc while trying to do good as can Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy. But wait! They have a new apprentice, Will, and he just can’t stop himself from interfering in the lives of two lonely humans. With best of intentions, their efforts all go awry. How things will finally be resolved is anybody’s guess, but you can be sure that these special angels are doing their best to help things along while trying to obey Gabriel’s orders not to interfere. Readers can depend on author Debbie Macomber to deliver an entertaining Christmas tale that is full of fun and sure to leave you with a warm, fuzzy feeling.

I am a huge fan of Debbie Macomber books, especially her Christmas books. This one was good but I am not fully convinced her move to the new publisher was a good one. This book just wasn't up to what her past books have been. Still in all I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others for an uplifting, fun, Christmas time read.

What a delightful read. When I read why Debbie added Will...the Prayer Ambassador, I was hooked. Psalm 23:6, " Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever."Of course anytime Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy get together, and add in the trainee Will, mayhem will happen. You will be giggling with each little oops that happens.A very uplifting, feel good, and delightful read. You don't want this one to end. Can you picture a camel waking itself down the street? Beware this one is going to hit your funny bone! Of course disaster follows...um remember "to many cooks, spoil the pot"! Good lessons to be learned.Grab a copy of this great Holiday read, don't miss these Angels...they might just brush by you!!I receive a copy of this book through the Publisher Ballantine Books, and was not required to give a positive review.

The newest incarnation of the MaComber angel series features the antics of Shirley, Goodness and Mercy; and a newcomer angel Will. I agree with some others that this latest Christmas book isn't quite up to par. All in all though, I always enjoy anything by Debbie MaComber. A good cozy Christmas story to get one in the right mood for the Holidays.

Debbie Macomber's Shirley, Goodness and Mercy are joined by a new angel, Will, to bring havoc and happiness to the Christmas season. The story involves a rising new chef and a food critic who are brought together by Will's interference. The angels cause havoc and then must smooth things over by getting more involved to fix their mistakes. A cozy story that wraps you up like a warm blanket. Short and sweet, Debbie's stories are always a hit with me!

This latest of the Christmas angel series featuring the antics of Shirley, Goodness and Mercy, was not up to par with the previous stories. The story seemed "thrown together" and not up to the author's usual excellent writing. It lacked any real depth and was rather predictable. A disappointment as I look forward to Debbie Macomber's Christmas story each year.

I am always happy to read a new Debbie Macomber book (or to reread an old favorite!) Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy are back for a new adventure with humans on earth. This time they have Will, a rookie angel, to guide through some of the problems that humans have. Will causes Lucie and Aren to bump into each other on New Year's Eve and they are instantly attracted to one another. Lucie and Aren share a kiss and then make plans to meet in a week at the top of the Empire State Building. When her mother is involved in an accident, Lucie is unable to meet Aren and they don't see each other for months. Aren, the food critic for a paper, eats at Lucie's new restaurant, Heavenly Delights. I know the name is a bit corny, but the food is delicious. At least Aren's meal WOULD have been delicious if a couple of angels had not decided to 'help' by adding salt and spice. Aren's meal is too salty and his review of the restaurant is scathing. Lucie is devastated and pictures her livelihood fast dissolving. Wendy, Lucie's mother, tells her not to worry and things will be just fine. She is correct. The newspaper receives either three hundred or three thousand responses to the review telling about the wonderful food that they were served. (My copy of the book has both numbers in it, but it is a review copy and I certainly hope that that discrepancy is corrected in the regular printed copy.) The bad review and the responses in support of the restaurant seem to be a good thing as the place is full every night. The editor of the paper sends Aren back to the restaurant to try it again. When he returns, Lucie happens to see Aren and they begin to date. Of course, the very helpful angels poke into places they don't need to be and bungle a couple of other things up, but in the end things work out for everyone. This is a quick, fun read for the holidays.

This Christmas tale is about four well-meaning angels who always manage to get themselves into a bit of trouble. They are sent to Earth by archangel Gabriel to help humans and answer prayers. They make an unplanned trip to visit Earth on New Year's Eve and the apprentice angel, Will, intervenes causing two people to meet who were not supposed to meet, not yet...Lucy is the owner of a new restaurant and is always busy working. Aren is a food critic who is getting over a recent divorce. They meet, hit it off, and then things go from good to bad...A cute, fun story with Christmas as the setting. I loved Lucie and Aren...loved Lucie's mom. The angels are a hoot! A feel-good, romantic story for the holidays!

Macomber's holiday installment brings back her angelic characters Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy along with their new apprentice angel, Will. At the annual New Year's Celebration in Times Square, the angels' meddling brings together Lucie and Aren a bit prematurely. It's love at first sight, but then things begin to go awry. She's about to open a new restaurant. He works for a newspaper although he's not allowed to tell anyone other than family members what his job is. Lucie keeps searching for his byline but it never appears. Will the meddling angels ever learn their lessons so that the two can finally come together? This is a nearly perfect holiday read. It's got humor, great characters with their own issues, and the reader knows that it's certain to have a happy ending in spite of the angels' mistakes. I have a little of a personal issue with the portrayal of the angels; however, this is not something which will bother all readers. In spite of that issue, I still found myself enjoying the novel. This review is based on an Advance Uncorrected Proof provided through LibraryThing's Early Reviewer program with the expectation that a review would be written.

I absolutely adored this book! Of course how can you possibly go wrong with a Debbie Macomber Christmas story. If you are a Debbie Macomber fan which I am one of the great parts of the Christmas season is a Christmas book from Debbie. Shirley, Goodness, Mercy, and their new apprentice angel, Will make an quick unplanned visit to Earth on New Year's Eve. Will takes it upon himself to give two strangers (Lucie Farrara and Aren Fairchild) a nudge together. They quickly have a change in plans and spend the post New Years celebration taking in a coffee shop. Neither thinks now is the time to start a relationship. They plan to meet a week later and see where things go from them. Things go wrong and they don't meet as planned. One Year later Lucie has opened her restaurant and Aren is a food critic. Shirley, Goodness, Mercy, and Will try to help out and things don't quite go as they planned. There is a series of errors that lend to some laughter and some worry for Lucie and Aren. They do finally get together for their first date but it's a wild night with all the shenanigans the Angels pull. Can Lucie and Aren make it through the ups & downs of life and find their way into each other's life? Lucie and Aren are such a cute, adorable couple you can't help but cheer them on as they go through one trial after another to find their way together.
