About this audiobook

13-year-old David discovers that his grandmother's inn is a portal for comical aliens from all over the universe—a secret that, until now, she has been able to keep from her small town.

Scrub isn't happy about having to spend the summer with his hippie grandmother in "Middle of Nowhere," Washington. When he arrives at her Intergalactic Bed & Breakfast, he's not surprised by its 1960s-meets-Star Wars decor; but he is surprised by the weird looking guests. It turns out that each room in the inn is a portal and his grandma is the gatekeeper, allowing aliens to vacation on Earth. She desperately needs Scrub's help with disguising the tourists as humans. As if that weren't difficult enough, the town sheriff is already suspicious of Granny. One wrong move and Scrub could blow Grandma's cover, forcing the B&B to shut down forever. And when it comes to aliens, every move seems wrong . . .

Full of cosmic chaos and mind-bending mayhem, Scrub's summer adventure will leave readers wanting to make a return trip.

Narrated by Joshua Swanson. Families will enjoy this wild caper about a remote Northwest bed and breakfast that caters to...space aliens. Swanson does some creative voicework for the various aliens and the snarling county sheriff bent on uncovering the truth about Grandma's B&B.

While a bit contrived, this is a fun read. I think it especially appeals to 'tween SF/F readers. It's more a 3.5 star book. The narration suited the book beautifully.

I read this in the fall of 2012 because I'm an elementary librarian and it was a Texas Bluebonnet Award nominee. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the book!! It's very funny! The author is really cool too; I got to meet him at a conference!

Cute, but not enough real SF for me. Also, not much going on, really - it focused on setting up a series... a series that I can tell I'm unlikely to be interested in. But hey, I'm not the target audience, and I can def. see the appeal to kids who want a light & weird adventure.

Finally got around to finishing this today. Scrub is staying with his grandmother for the summer at her inn. What he soon realizes is that tourists are from out of this world and he starts helping her keep them in line. Unfortunately the secret gets out and Scrub has to figure out how to help save his grandmother's inn.

It was a fun read. Great descriptions of aliens and most of the incidents are pretty funny. Scrub and Amy are lovable characters. Thinking of reading the rest of the series.

Unhappy at being sent to stay with his grandmother at the inn she operates, The Intergalactic Bed & Breakfast, Scrub discovers that each room is actually a portal to space and the inn's visitors are aliens who are vacationing on Earth.

A light, but enjoyable read. The aliens are a bit tame and only varied by looks, not personality, except for Mr. Harnox, the longer-term resident of the Intergalactic Bed & Breakfast. The relationship between Scrub and his grandmother is the strongest part of the book. I was delighted by the fact that Grandma graduated from my alma mater, The Evergreen State College.

Set in Nowhere, Washington in the middle of a forested area, Scrub's grandma runs a bed and breakfast for aliens from outer space and Scrub gets involved in taking care of them, add a girl he likes and her father, the sherifff, who is out to get them and you've got the basics for a funny story. Of course, I like books set in the state I live in and I love funny science fiction. I'd like to know Scrub's grandma but I wouldn't want her to cook for me,

Instead of hanging out with his friends at basketball camp this summer, David is is visiting his new-agie grandmother in Washington State, helping with the day-to-day running of her Intergalactic Bed and Breakfast. He quickly realizes that the name of the establishment isn't just a gimmick: she really DOES run a vacation spot for extra-terrestrials who want to rough it on our backwards planet. Between trying to convince the aliens keep a low profile, and running interference with the town's sheriff, who suspects that something's up, David has his hands full. This out-of-this-world story has a lot of humor. As long as kids can take the cheesiness, they're in for a fun ride.

Summary: Scrubs is really not looking forward to the summer with his grandma, or staying at her hotel. You can only imagine how surprised he is that this boring hotel in the middle of nowhere is actually a vacation spot is for aliens visiting the earth. Each room in the hotel is a portal to another world. Scrubs is immediately put to work monitoring guests and hiding the true reason for the hotel from the suspicious city sheriff.Person Reactions: Clever idea for aliens to visit earth without trying to be captured. Very cute story and think most young kids will like this and wanna read it over again. Classroom Extensions: Ask the kids what their alien friend might look like. Have them drawl what their planet might look like. Ask them why would aliens wanna see earth and what is there to do and see here.

A different idea for a sci-fi and 'unpopular kid comes of age on summer vacation' book.
It went really quickly, and the only reason it took me more than one day to read it was because I was too exhausted to finish it the first day.

SUMMARY: A little boy is not looking forward to staying with his boring grandmother over the summer at her bed and breakfast. However, he is in for quite a surprise. His grandmothers residents are aliens, and the doors throughout the house lead to other worlds!PERSONAL REACTION: I loved the surprising twist to the traditional trip grandma's. I found the story very intriguing and original. I feel like this would be a great read for any child interested in space.EXTENSION IDEAS: This could be a great introduction to a lesson over the solar system. It would also be a great Halloween read. The students could even dress up and have alien day!!

This was a cute, enjoyable book designed for young readers. I don't know any young boys who wouldn't want to read this. This book takes Scrub on a wild ride through a wacky world that Clete Barrett Smith carefully constructed.Scrub was not looking forward to spending a whole summer away from his friends. Little did he know that his whole view of his grandma is about to change! Can you imagine your grandma running a bed & breakfast that is not only named Intergalactic Bed & Breakfast, but actually is? That is exactly what Scrub learns on his trip to Washington. In conjunction with the Wakela's World Disclosure Statement, I received a product in order to enable my review.
