      A Bat in the Belfry is the 16th and final book in the Home Repair is Homicide mystery series. It serves to introduce Lizzie Snow, the protagonist of Winter at the Door and The Girls She Left Behind. There really is a belfry involved: the belfry of All Faith Chapel in Eastport.If you really like the characters from the 'Home Repair is Homicide' series, fear not. Ms. Graves has brought them back for a new series with a different publisher. The series name is 'Death by Chocolate' and the first book is Death by Cherry Chocolate Cheesecake.

      The honest truth: I Ab-so-lute-ly Hated this book:

      I didn't like the writing, I didn't like the characters, I didn't like what they were really thinking, I didn't like the story, I didn't like the subject of Snuff sites, nor did I like the violence.

      One would like to think that a "Home Repair" mystery would be less violent and more entertaining. I'll read Cornwell, Reichs, Woods, et. al. if violence is what I want to experience.

      The reason I stopped reading this series was because of the violence.... which is a shame the home repair parts are interesting and her family interactions are good too.

      I enjoyed this book, even though it was a bit of a slow, dragging story. Every time I thought about putting it away, something would happen to renew my interest and I eventually got through it. Mostly predictable and full of stereotypical characters.

      I picked this up thinking it was from another home-repair series. I was disappointed at first, but that changed as soon as I began to read.

      I had seen Ms.Graves books before, of course, and I even remember admiring the titles (Dead Cat Bounce, especially. I had to look up the meaning.) Yet for some reason I had never read any of this series.

      The tone of this book was not as light hearted as the other (ones). Instead, by using different viewpoints, a tense and suspenseful mystery unfolds. The ending is not unexpected, but it's still a nail-biter.

      This is one author I will look for again!

      4 STARSA Bat in the Belfry: A Home Repair Is Homicide Mystery.I have never read any of this series before but I would like to read more of them now.Their are a lot of characters but does not take long to keep them straight. This book stands up by itself.In reading the book I thought the main character was Lizzie Snow who came to town right after the murder happened. She finds a lot of the clues and is the center of things. I like the character of Lizzie Snow and would like to see more from her and her new job.Jake and Ellie were in the book but never heard much from Ellie. I bet if I had read the other books in the series than a lot of characters mentioned just a little would fit in more.Their is plenty of suspense and drama. I kind of guessed part of the story but not all of it. I would read more of Sarah's work in the future based on this one.       This is the first book I've read by Sarah Graves so I have no history with this series but I enjoyed it very much! I'm sure there were things I didn't catch since this is pretty far along in a series but whatever they were, they didn't change my enjoyment of the book.

      This book falls into the genre I think of as Contemporary American Cozies, my favorite genre! It's not as soft as some, it does have a few hard edges, but it's definitely still comfort food for the cozy reader. It's set in Maine, which is always a great setting for mysteries, and has a female sleuth with a distinct identity as a home repair addict.

      There were a lot of characters and a lot of intertwining story lines. In fact, that's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. It jumped from story line and POV to story line and POV a little more often than I was completely comfortable with but that was a minor distraction.

      The race to the finish at the end where all the story lines are tied up was great! It was definitely a page-turner and impossible to put down. A very fun read. I'll be going to back and starting at the beginning with this series!

Facing problems with his girlfriend Carolyn, he decides to go to Maine to visit with Sam and get his head together. But what is he hiding?Lizzie Snow quit her job in Boston and heads to Maine trying to find more information about her still missing niece. Her sister Sissy was killed eight years ago and her 1 year old daughter was never found. But now Lizzie has reason to believe she may be in Eastport. So she turns in her badge and gun and is determined to find her. When her houseguest is accused of the murder, Jacobia "Jake" Tiptree begins her own investigation along with her best friend Ellie White and Lizzie Snow, the retired police detective. While a raging storm rains down on Eastport, they work relentlessly to prove Chip's innocence and discover the truth.More characters include the frustrated police chief-Bob, the local drug dealer-Harvey, his sidekick, Bogie, Dylan the state police officer, Karen Hansen's father and many more.The plot of this book tends to ramble a bit, but Ms. Graves writes in the first person which makes this book easier to follow. There are some ambiguous scenes which I really feel distracted from the overall plot but they did help develop the characters. The storyline was very interesting and kept me reading chapter after chapter. This is my first time reading Ms Graves but I am now going to locate her other books and read them.
