About this audiobook

When Darcy is hired by Elodie Keaton to clean up her missing mother's disorderly home, the Wishcrafter is certainly up for the task. After all, the motto of her Aunt Ve's personal concierge service As You Wish is "No Job Impossible." But beneath the piles of old newspapers and knickknacks Darcy discovers something much more disturbing-Patrice Keaton's body.

Darcy's determined to give Elodie peace of mind by investigating her mother's disappearance and death. Patrice was last seen over a year ago after a fight with her Charmcrafter boyfriend. Was her murder a crime of passion? Or were Patrice's troubles caused by the Anicula, a wish-granting amulet? Now Darcy has to not only find a killer, she has to find the Anicula-before the power of ultimate wish fulfillment falls into the wrong hands.

The author had a really good idea, but somewhere along the way, with the sabotaging of the wedding that particular part of the story became tedious and fell flat. Yep- you guessed it: - 1 Star!Darcy (a Wish-Crafter) is asked to clean out the house of Patrice, a hoarder, who has disappeared, by Elodie, Patrice's daughter who has taken over both her mother's Gem shop in the Enchanted Village and her house....Unbeknownst to Darcy, Patrice owned the most powerful amulet that anyone could own... the Anicula, which would grant anyone's wishes no matter the intent; however if any granted wish was for ill, the Anicula would turn against the wisher.Six months prior to the disappearance of Patrice the Anicula disappeared and no one has any idea where either are, until, a neighbor innocently (with pure intentions) wishes in front of Darcy to find her missing friend.Immediately after the wish to find Patrice, a tower of boxes overturns and at the bottom is an old leather trunk, sprung open, with the desiccated remains of Patrice. No matter the reasoning behind or results of previous wishes, life in the Enchanted Village is beginning to unravel for many of the Crafters as they scramble to uncover the whereabouts of the Anicula. At the same time, Darcy's Aunt Ve is to be married at the end of the week, but someone is sabotaging the wedding and the groom-to-be is found kissing his long-time secretary, who threatens Darcy.

The second Wishcraft mystery. The first few chapters were a little infodumpy, giving too many details from the previous book, including some that were spoilerish. After that the book smoothed out, and was fun to read. I'll probably look for more books in the series.

The second in the Wishcrafting mystery series, A Witch Before Dying is, I think, my favorite of the two so far. Both are excellent, but the first one felt like it had a tiny bit of silly in it, and this one did not. What it did have is some absolutely hysterical moments of dialogue - Archie had me laughing out loud - and a better explanation of some of the types of magic in this particular universe. The mysteries behind the murder and a rash of break-ins was very well crafted, with a good number of possible suspects and an ending I didn't guess at - I thought for *sure* I knew who the baddie was and was totally wrong.

Ms. Blake has created a charming world, with a very likeable cast of characters and great dialogue. I'm looking forward to reading many more books from the Enchanted Village/Salem.

A WITCH BEFORE DYING is the second book in Heather Blake’s Wishcraft Mystery series which is set in a magical neighborhood of Salem, Massachusetts. Ms. Blake’s “witchy” cozy mysteries are a delight to read, and this one was no exception. The mystery in this book was very good. It was complex with interwoven plot lines, and I was kept guessing until the very end. Wishcrafter Darcy Merriweather has her hands full when she’s hired to clean out a missing hoarder’s house, and she finds the dead body of the woman buried under all the junk. It was like an episode of Hoarders gone horribly wrong! Since it’s obvious foul play was involved and the woman’s dangerous magical amulet is missing, the daughter of the victim hires Darcy to find the killer. Though not an official private investigator (yet), Darcy is clever and has a knack for solving mysteries. No big secrets of the Enchanted Village are revealed in this book, though we do get to know more characters – crafters, half-crafters, and a few who are just passing through. New relationships bloom, and old ones are severed. I especially loved seeing Darcy and Mimi’s bond grow stronger. Mimi is Darcy’s potential boyfriend’s daughter. Sweet! Like in the last book, the familiars Archie the macaw and Pepe the mouse were too funny. This was an enjoyable read with unique characters, just the right about of woo woo, and a strong mystery that takes center stage. I give it 4.5 stars!

4 stars This is the second book in a series

I really like this series. It is a cozy mystery with magic thrown in. It works. Right after I finished this one I started reading the 3rd one in this series. If you like cozies and don't mind, or even like magic then I highly recommend this book and this series. It is a light, easy read. Well written, I look forward to more from Ms. Blake.

When i got this book I really wasn't expecting much. I figured it would be a fast read and that's all I needed. I'm happy to say that it was a good mystery as well. The charactors ( both witch and mortal ) were good. Very believable. I'll be getting more of this series, just to see where the charactors end up.

In Blake’s paranormal mystery novel, Darcy, a Wishcrafter, is hired by Elodie Keaton to clean up her mother’s house, a mother who has been missing for two years. Although the house is a hoarder’s dream, As You Wish is up to the task—until the missing woman’s body is found buried beneath the clutter.Taking on the case, Darcy is determined to help Elodie solve the death of her mother. The deceased had vanished shortly after a falling out with her boyfriend leading Darcy to suspect a crime of passion. Or maybe it was magical since the Anicula, a wish-granting amulet, may have been involved as well. Now Darcy must find a killer before he finds a powerful and dangerous amulet.A wonderful combination of magic and murder. A great installment to the A Wishcraft Mystery series.

Darcy's second adventure in Heather Blake's new mystery is a lot of fun. I find I really enjoy the place where all these "crafters" live in plain sight at Salem's Enchanted Village (quite the tourist destination). Between manning a borderline hoarder house clean up for the family business, As You Wish and readying everyone for Aunt Ve's wedding, Darcy has her hands very full in this mystery. Great secondary characters, a running storyline about familiars--this cozy series has it all, with a little witchcraft thrown in.
