      Stoneham (New Hampshire) is “Booktown,” with many stores on the main street being specialty bookstores. At the November chamber of commerce meeting, the long-time president, Bob Kelly, is surprised when there are nominations from the floor for his position. One is mystery bookstore owner Tricia Miles’s sister Angelica, who owns several businesses in town. The other candidate is an obnoxious man – Stan Berry owns a sign shop – and his platform would mean a much diminished chamber. But before the election can be held, he winds up dead, stabbed in the chest while in the hotel’s men’s room. Tricia finds the body, the second she's found in a toilet. Tricia has been known to do a bit of sleuthing … and she’s certainly going to do so in this case because it’s her sister who is on the suspect list – as is Tricia herself. She found the body.To further complicate matters Tricia’s ex-husband Christopher is in town … and trying to get into Tricia’s good graces again. There’s not a chance they’ll get together again, but he’s dropping hints all over town that they’ll be back together soon. Then the son of the murder victim shows up … since Will Berry inherits his father’s business and, therefore, had a motive, he’s on the police’s short list, too. Then Will, who’s ten years younger than Tricia starts to pursue her. She’s not sure she’s cougar material, but Tricia doesn’t have a beau after dumping her cop boyfriend. I’ve been reading this series since the beginning … although I think I’ve missed one or two along the way. It’s great fun with a setting that will please book lovers and a heroine who’s perfectly imperfect. Just what a cozy series needs. This well-written series is one of my favorites and Not the Killing Type didn’t disappoint.

      Tricia’s sister Angelica has been nominated to be the new Chamber of Commerce president but before the election can be organized, Tricia discovers another nominee stabbed to death.As the time passes between the nomination and the meeting for the election, Tricia is trying to juggle her bookstore, Angelica's campaign, her ex-husband, and her romance with Chief Baker as well as trying to figure who killed the dead nominee.There was a bit too much going in in this story - maybe one of the romance angles could have been eliminated. The mystery would have been just as good.

      3.5 starsTricia’s sister Angelica is running for Chamber of Commerce president to replace realtor Bob Kelly, who has been the president for a long time. Unfortunately, on a break during the meeting, the third candidate, Stan, is found (by Tricia, of course!) murdered on the toilet! Obvious suspects are Bob and Angelica, but Tricia wants to prove otherwise. I’m still enjoying this series. I like most of the characters. I learned that Tricia is a bit of a “scrooge” (my word/description) when it comes to Christmas decorations. (But then, I like lots of decorations; maybe people who like simple, plain, understated Christmas decos would disagree!) The premise of such a small town with such niche stores (even with tourists to support them), seems unlikely to me (having grown up in a small town where there was no book store at all, let alone niche bookstores!), but that’s ok – the stores weren’t the focus of this book, anyway. I listened to the audio and it was good; it kept my attention.

      Three people are vying for the chance to be president of the Chamber of Commerce, but before the election can be held, one is dead. This mystery is a little darker than a lot of cozies, and more intense. Still, it’s about booksellers and life in the tourist town. Tricia is again playing at being an amateur detective, and her somewhat former boyfriend, a real detective, is more distant than usual. Tricia’s ex-husband is on the scene, and life is chaotic for all. I enjoy this series, flawed characters and all. My new favorite is Tricia’s new assistant Pixie, who brings a breath of fresh air to the series.

      When a chamber contestant is found murdered, during the same meeting he, the current president and Tricia’s sister, Angelica, also opted to vie for the position, Tricia takes it upon herself to clear her sister’s name and bring the true culprit to task.Ex-husband, Christopher, happens back in town for business and vies to win back Tricia’s affections, while her flighty relationship with the town’s police chief falters. Then there’s a new, younger man in the scene and all eyes are on Tricia.It’s holiday season, there’s a wedding in the making, a chamber vote for new president, and a killer yet to be found. Going in all directions with her fingers deep in each event, Tricia, along with sister Angelica, pull it all off again, winning the battles, but not with out casualties along the way.

      Stoneham, New Hampshire sounds like it would be a nice place to live--if only people would stop turning up dead! The Chamber of Commerce is having its meeting to elect its leader. Long-time leader Bob Kelly figures he's a shoo-in and is surprised when Angelica Miles and Stan Berry both get nominated to oppose him. Before the vote can take place, Stan is killed. His body is found by Angelica's sister, Tricia. This causes the vote to be postponed (allowing for more campaigning by the two remaining candidates). Despite Stoneham having a police force, Tricia, the owner of a mystery book shop, feels compelled to insert herself in the investigation. Honestly, I wonder how many of these businesses survive, since Tricia doesn't seem to sell a book when she's there. (To be fair, sales are mentioned, but Tricia seems to always be away from the store when these tour buses etc. come through bringing customers.) More customers seem to come into her shop thinking it's the cookbook store owned by Angelica and then leave to go to it than seem to come to buy mysteries. The characters are well done and interesting. I did not guess the identity of the killer until it was revealed.

      Tricia is back again in Not the Killing Type. When Angelica challenges Bob Kelly in the upcoming Chamber Election, surprise candidate Stan Berry also throws his hat in the ring. But before they can take a vote, Tricia finds Stan Berry dead, and she's elected to solve the mystery.

      After the poor showing of the last novel, Not the Killing Type puts it back on track. The election campaign was genuinely interesting - Barrett has done such a good job of establishing Bob Kelly as a fixture in the village that I wondered whether or not she would actually get rid of him.

      Pixie, the rude secretary from the novel before, comes into her own in this one and becomes quite a fun character, injecting a little bit of life into the scene - which is good, because this novel did start to get bogged down in its own love triangle going on. I can't say that I enjoy reading about Tricia's love life all that much, honestly.

      The only problem is that the ending began to fall apart. It turns out that Stan Berry collects magazines with titles like Chubby Chasers and Tricia is revolted. Again, there's a problem here. Tricia's character is more interesting because she is somewhat spoiled and stuffy. She's not perfect Mary Poppins Solving Murders, she has flaws. But the reaction she had felt a little too judge-y again. It didn't help that she didn't seem to show any understanding towards Pixie's obsession with Christmas, other than a few "I guess Christmas in jail must be depressing!". Well, duh, Tricia.

      The ending also caught me off-guard, simply because it was a good deal darker than these books normally go. And Tricia actually blew it - while everyone said, "We don't blame you," she is to blame. If she had called the cops, Elanor probably wouldn't have killed herself.

      The pet peeve I had with this one is that cozy mysteries as a whole seem to be the best case for keeping editors around. I had noticed in previous books that they flip-flop between, "Here, here" and "Hear, hear", the second of which is correct. The first one used the incorrect one, it was corrected for the second or third, and then this one went back to using the incorrect one.

      Someone also broke Tricia's "revelry", instead of her "reverie", and the editor apparently did not catch that not once, not twice, but three separate times in the same book was an incorrect use of "insure" rather than "ensure".

      All in all, it was a solid one, though not one of my favorites from the series.

      Tricia, who attracts dead bodies like honey attracts bees has found another one in her tiny village. This time it's Stan, a Chamber of Commerce member who has just put his name in as a candidate running against Tricia's sister. I thought this had some good dynamic between Tricia, her sister, employees and friends.

      Tricia is not only having to solve a murder but she has to deal with a mid-life crisis and her friend's wedding. This has definitely been a hard time for Tricia and is a little darker - more depressing? - then previous books. I think all the murders are catching up with Tricia.

      In Barrett’s mystery novel, it’s November in Stoneham, New Hampshire and time to elect a new Chamber of Commerce director. Tricia Miles, owner of Haven’t Got a Clue Bookstore, is supporting her sister Angelica as she campaigns for the post. To boot, local business owner, Stan Berry, also throws his hat into the ring but before he can even declare his position on the issues, Stan is found murdered. As the law looks at suspects—which include Angelica as she was running for office as well—Tricia slaps on her detective hat and searches for answers to clear her sister. What Tricia finds is a minefield of lies and betrayal and a mountain of people with valid grudges against the deceased. Trudging forward, Tricia pushes to identify a killer before someone else falls victim.Kudos to Barrett for giving us a phenomenal addition to the A Booktown Mystery series that’s chockfull of wonderful characters and a surprise ending.

      While Lorna Barrett's other Booktown Mysteries have been charming and decent mysteries, this one was more YT with the first and last 20 pages being devoted to the mystery. It was more about Ginny's wedding, whether Tricia will be attracted to a much younger man, whether Angelica will be Chamber of Commerce president and whether Christopher will come back into Tricia's life. Oh yes, and a dose of how the store was decorated for Christmas by Pixie. At least it was a quick read...

      Tricia Miles is feeling very much the village jinx. She has just discovered another dead body and the second one she's found in a restroom! This time it is Chamber of Commerce member and opponent of both Bob and Angelica for position of President of the Chamber. Quite a bit is going on in Tricia's life in this one. She is getting used to new assistant Pixie, dealing with boyfriend Grant and ex-husband Christopher.I love this series. The idea of a New Hampshire village that has its main street lined with bookstores, all specializing in different types of books, just makes me smile. As always, looking forward to more in this series.

      Not the Killing Type is the seventh book in the Booktown Mystery series.

      The Stoneham Chamber of Commerce is having their election for President. Angelica has decided to throw her hat into the ring against her former boyfriend, Bob Kelly. Then local sign maker Stan Berry adds his name. A break is taken before the vote and Tricia heads to the restroom and finds Stan dead, a victim of a stabbing.

      What with Black Friday coming up soon and the wedding of Ginny and Antonio, Tricia hardly has time to take on an investigation. But with Angelica being looked at with interest in the murder, she and Tricia need to be out campaigning, so she can upset Bob.

      Most all the regulars are back. Christopher, Tricia's ex, is back and making a pain of himself. Pixie, Tricia's ex-hooker salesperson, is here providing some humor. New to the series is Stan Berry, Jr., the son of the victim, who seems to getting to know Tricia better.

      Another great addition to the series. I feel that Tricia has decided to become a stronger person in her personal life and Angelica seems to be a little more considerate to her sister.

      Looking forward to the next book in the series.

      It's a busy time in Stoneham, NH and Trisha and Angelica are attending the Chamber of Commerce monthly meeting when Angelica announces she wants to run for Chamber President against her old boyfriend, Bob. Another merchant, Stan jumps up and enters the race with a lot of ideas for cutbacks that most of the merchants think will take away the charm of the village and keep the tourists and shoppers away. Before the vote Trish head to the restroom where she finds Stan dead. Trish can't help but get involved in the investigation while the other merchants think she's jinx since she finds so many dead bodies. Quick, fun read watching Trish deal with her new clerk Pixie, the merchants, her ex-husband, Angelica, the son of the dead man and of course her stalled relationship with the Police Chief.

      It is November and merchants in Stoneham, New Hampshire have their hands filled with getting ready for not only Black Friday but the election of the President of the Chamber of commerce. Tricia Miles is also busy getting ready for her friend Ginny’s wedding and reluctantly gets pulled into her sister. Angelica's plan to run for president. The residents of Stoneham are not thrilled with Tricia's penchant for solving mysteries so are understandably upset when Tricia comes across the body of Stan Berry, another candidate for President. Tricia agrees to help Angelica solve the murder, but she doesn't realize how much this will hurt her relationship with several people in Stoneham.“Not the Killing Type” is the well done seventh book in Lorna Barrett's Booktown cozy mystery series. Tricia and Angelica have continued to grow on me as characters and with this book in particular I empathized with Tricia. She is a character female readers especially can understand -at a crossroads in her life regarding her on/off again relationship with Stoneham Police Chief Grant Baker as well as her relationship with her ex-husband Christopher, and worried that her life might be a bit boring. She is also struggling with her relationship with some people in Stoneham who are beginning to think she is a jinx because she keeps finding dead bodies (props to Barrett from making that a part of the plot). Ultimately, Tricia is a very believable somewhat flawed character. I'm glad to see Angelica growing a bit in the series - she once seemed selfish to me but there are some well-done scenes with her and Tricia in this book. Pixie Hoe is another character who is growing on me and she injects some much needed humor into this book. While the book isn't a tearjerker, there are some truly sad moments that did bring tears to my eyes. The mystery is well plotted with plenty of twists and turns and I was truly sad when I found out who the killer was.“Not the Killing Type” is another winner from Lorna Barrett.
