About this audiobook

Kylie Scott returns with the highly anticipated follow-up to international bestseller Lick.

Mal Ericson, drummer for the world famous rock band Stage Dive, needs to clean up his image fast—at least for a little while. Having a good girl on his arm should do the job just fine. Mal doesn't plan on this temporary fix becoming permanent, but he didn't count on finding the one right girl. Anne Rollins never thought she'd ever meet the rock god who plastered her teenage bedroom walls—especially not under these circumstances. Anne has money problems. Big ones. But being paid to play the pretend girlfriend to a wild life-of-the-party drummer couldn't end well. No matter how hot he is. Or could it?

This audiobook includes an excerpt from the first book in Kylie Scott's new Dive Bar series, Dirty.

I love the Stage Dive series but Play is my favorite. Like the others it has the drama, lust and love all handled with humor. Irreverent Mal is my fav band member. At times I find myself literally laughing out loud. I go back and read Play over and over and never tire of it. Kylie Scott makes you feel like you know the characters personally.

Eh. Not the best follow up after I loved book 1 so much. Its a cute book, but I found the storyline kinda weak. There’s a lot of funny moments in this one, some hot steamy scenes, but I also found there were a lot of scenes that were not set up the best. It seems to me that certain emotions were trying to be conveyed, but the set up to try getting things said or felt was weak and kinda thrown together. This one has a sad element to it, which I am just not in the mood for this week so that probably also has a negative impact on my review.

Mal is a super jokester and very impulsive. Ann is more reserved because she has had to take care of a lot all her life. Mal wants her to be his fake girlfriend, but she has had a childhood crush on him already so we know feelings cannot be avoided. It almost seems like a cookie cutter love story with some different situations thrown in. There are also a few awkward moments that make the book not flow super nice for me.

Overall it’s still a decent book, it just missed the mark for me and didn’t pull me in. I love that old characters are revisited, and I am still excited to read more characters and what happens with them. I definitely will still continue the series.

This is a great series and Scott is quickly becoming one of my fav authors. When I first started Play, I was a little put off by the H’s and h’s characters, but as the story developed, both began to really click for me. I did cry at a couple of points bc of the feels, but I wouldn’t categorize anything as triggers.

    Narration is fabulous!

One of my very favorite rock star series. I have read the book and also listened to the series in audio while gardening or crafting. I LOVE Andi's narrations. Kylie Scott is a great author. "Play" is my favorite in the series. Mal is such an awesome character and I found myself giggling a lot in this book. Kylie's books also have a great mix of humor with drama.

I actually listened to this on audio. The narrator was very good and it was fun to listen to. Now for the story....This one is very similar to quite a few rock star romances I have read before. The girl, Anne, has loved Mal as a fan. She had his posters on the wall...all those fangirl things. She never dreams that she would even meet the famous drummer, let alone become his fake girlfriend. Yes, very familiar storyline when it comes to Rockstar romance. I'm also not really sure how I feel about Mal. I was not really a fan of how he dealt with things and his idea of humor. Every so often, he would let his soft side show and I would like him a little bit. I did like Anne. Even though she was in awe of Mal and living her greatest fantasy come to life, she still doesn't let him totally walk all over her in the end. She sees good in him when it is not apparent. This is the second book in the series. I think I will go ahead with the next one if I can also get it in audio. 3 stars for Play.

I liked the book, particularly how well-matched the characters were. Nice to have a man with a solid family life and a woman from more of a broken home too. While I enjoyed the romance, I didn't necessarily care for the hero, or at least didn't solidly connect with him like I have others who are open and honest (thinking immediately of the transparency of Will, Beautiful Player here). At times, he just seemed like a clown. That said, obviously it didn't ruin a thing for me, Mal just doesn't earn a spot in my favorite leading men.

A surprisingly fun read with a couple of laugh-out-loud moments. I do feel like the first half of the book required a strong suspension of belief on my part, especially in the premise itself. The craziness of Mal aside, the way Anne reacted to him and agreed to his actions/proposal was more than a bit hard to believe.

I had to take a big step back and try not to look too closely at either Anne or Mal. They did and said things that could have made it very easy for me to dislike them as characters, and there were a couple of close calls in the beginning of the book. To be honest, I'm still a bit baffled why I didn't dislike them and had in fact eventually grown quite fond of both by the end of the book.

It's one of those "take it as it comes" and "just let it be and enjoy the ride" sort of thing... and you kind of realize at the end that you grew to care for it more than expected. A bit like Anne and Mal's relationship, I guess!

All in all, the book was enjoyable with a couple of dubious moments that wasn't too hard to overlook if taken at face value. It was a little bumpy at first, but it left me with a smile by the end.

Anne Rollins isn't having a very good day. She comes home to find out that the roommate who owed her money has packed up her stuff and moved out. Anne has a just a few more days before the rent is due and no money to cover it. When her next door neighbors Laura and her boyfriend Nate invite her to go to a party, she accepts as a way to get her mind off her problems. It helps that the party is being thrown by her friend Ev who has recently married the lead singer of Stage Dive. Anne has been a fan of the band for years and had a monster crush on drummer Mal Ericson when she was a teen. The party was a little overwhelming so Anne sought some quiet on the patio where she met Mal who happened to hear her phone call with her boss and so knows about Anne's money problems. When she meets Mal, she is surprised that he seems a little sad and not the party-rocker that she thought he was. While he has moments when he is manic, Anne is mostly confused by him. When he inserts himself into her life, she is even more confused. Half the time she wants to kill him and the other half the time she wants to make love with him. Anne hasn't had much good luck with love and doesn't even want to think that she might be falling in love with Mal. She watched her mother sink into a deep depression when her father left the family. Anne ended up both caring for her mother and for her younger sister while her mother hid in her room. She still has a bad relationship with her mother. And she has no faith in love being something that lasts. Mal also has a secret that is tearing him apart. Having a girlfriend like Anne would please his mother but, despite his rock star life, he's never had a girlfriend that lasted more than a date or two. Mal is also determined to keep his problems to himself which makes Anne feel left out and used. This was a great romance. I loved Mal's over-the-top manic personality and I loved Anne's steadiness. I loved watching the relationship between the two of them grow and deepen as they learned to know each other.

Mal was probably my favorite character in Lick--then again, I love snarky heroes--so I was curious to find out more about him and see what his story was. I'm going to be honest--at first I was very confused (and a bit worried) about his almost manic behavior. And hell, it was obvious that the other members of Stage Dive (and Evelyn) were all worried about his almost manic behavior, too. He hadn't been manic like that in Lick, either, so I figured the manic behavior had to be tied to his sudden desire to have a girlfriend.

Even though Play was told from Anne's POV, I felt like this was Mal's story more than hers. Yes, she experienced a lot of character growth (I loved how Mal encouraged her to set boundaries with people) and I loved her character and empathized a lot with her (I've been the parent in my relationship with my mom, so I got it), I just felt like this was Mal's story more than Anne's, or at the very least that (like Lick) Play would have really benefited from having both POVs.

It takes a lot to get a five star rating out of me, but Ms. Scott truly earned it with this one. I laughed, I cried, and I got turned on. This book was just what I was looking for. I cannot wait to go back and read the first one. *I received and advanced copy in exchange for my honest review*

I really liked it. Anne and Mal were great together and had some pretty awesome chemistry, though I think some things got a little too jumbled up by the end of the book. Still, a very good read.

Sweet fancy Moses. I loved this book so much! I love Mal...so, so, so much!

Ok, so what did I love about this book?

Let's start with Mal. Sweet, sweet, Mal. First of all, Mal is not tortured. Yes, he is dealing with something really difficult and he is struggling to deal with it, but Mal is NOT a tortured hero. He is well-adjusted and pretty damn sane for a rock star!
Second, I can only imagine what a life with Mal would be like. So.much.fun. He is totally my kind of guy. He is funny as hell, sarcastic, witty, spontaneous and doesn't take life too seriously. He is just...fun! Life with him would be a whirlwind, but worth every minute. His quick wit had me grinning from ear to ear throughout the whole book. I mean really... he had a conversation with Anne's vagina. A whole conversation. It was amazing. Bottom line, Mal makes it onto my book boyfriend list!

I also really liked Anne's character. Kylie Scott was true to who she was throughout the whole book. Anne was a caretaker which while good, also tended to get her used. People took advantage of her because of her caretaker ways. She was the adult in her family growing up and had to deal with too much at too young of an age and never got to do things just for her. She also never had anyone take care of her. I liked that her character grew during the book, but it wasn't a spontaneous change to a person she wouldn't ever really be. It was a natural growth that felt real.

I am completely in love with this series. It is so well written and I just adore the characters so much. I can't wait to read about the other guys! I am dying to know if Lizzy and Ben happen in the future!

Bottom line, read these books. They will make you smile, I promise.

One day I picked up a book called “Lick” and thought to myself ok, lets give this a try. Could be interesting! Well SURPRISE it was great, David & Ev’s story was pretty damn fabulous. I think I remember writing in my short review of Lick that I hoped the next book was about Mal, something about him was just so so interesting, its like he just spoke to me. (Ok, I know that sounds a little weird but he did) So I waited and waited, hoping that the next book would be about Mal and I’m pretty sure I did a little dance when I discovered it was about him. So this is my disclaimer for the following gush about Mal!Play, WOW! Funny, Endearing and a just a little Heart-Breaking! I love this book, I love the comedy in it, how Mal always (ok not always) uses himself to brighten the moment, whether it be by crazy stunt or just true feelings he’s always trying to hide. And Anne well I have to say I pretty much love her too! She refuses to let anything ruin her life, yes she’s had set back after set back but she continues to find a way to move forward no matter what! And that’s how we fall into this story, Mal rides to the recuse for Anne, unbeknownst to her! Coming home to find not only that Mal has moved in but he has also taken the liberty to “redecorate” (LOL) I love it, he’s saving the day for Anne even thought he has another motive behind, and that is that he needs a girlfriend. And the only rule he really has for this little partnership is that to the outside world they are a “real couple”. Yes I know what all of you are thinking, a little weird, why would she agree to this. Fascination, that’s why she does it, or at least that’s what I think hell if you had a chance to get see a rock stars live up close why not take advantage of it. But in the end both of their motives, well they aren’t near an underhanded as you would think. When Mal’s world starts to come unhinged though the drama starts to ensue… I love this book! I knew I was going to like it, but I had no idea just how much in-love Mal would make me fall for him. He’s so witty and charming. He has some serious charisma that will attract almost anyone out there. So I urge you if you’ve read Lick get this book, and if you haven’t read Lick well get it today and then make sure to get Play!★Jammie

But being paid to play the pretend girlfriend to a wild life-of-the-party drummer couldn’t end well. No matter how hot he is. Or could it?Anne Rollins was unequivocally having a bad day. Arriving home after a long day at work she walked into her apartment - her almost entirely empty apartment. After feeling terrible all day about the conversation she was going to have with her roommate she came home to find that her old friend had ditched her, moving out and leaving Anne in debt for the two months of rent, bills, and food that she'd spotted Skye for while she searched for a new job. All those years of friendship down the toilet because Skye was too much of a loser to face up to her debt. And Anne was too much of a doormat not to allow situations like this to keep cropping up. So when Anne's neighbor from across the hall, Lauren, sticks her head in and sees what's happened and hears the rest about the debt, she and her boyfriend Nate drag Anne to a party with them. The party just happens to be at the new condo Ev and David bought. Ev had been their neighbor before she married David, from the band Stage Dive, one drunken night in Vegas. But this isn't their story. . . Anne says hello, grabs a beer and when her phone rings she heads out onto the balcony to hear. Turns out it's her boss and crush, Reece. She pours out her tale of woe, Reece tells her he never liked Skye, then asks her to cover a shift for him. Out of beer Anne steels herself for going back inside when a deep voice offers her another. Startled she turns and accepts, only to discover that the stranger who'd just overheard her embarrassing tale is none other than her all-time crush, Malcolm Ericson. The Mal, who just happens to be the drummer of Stage Dive, and her favorite member of the band, is offering her a beer and talking to her. He gently teases her a bit and they get to talking.Somehow she ends up agreeing to playing his pseudo girlfriend for an undisclosed period of time. The next day when she comes home from work she finds that Mal had actually followed through on what she thought was a joke - he'd moved in with her. Lauren had let him in. Mal worried that Anne wouldn't like to sofa he'd picked out for her, showing that there is definitely more to him than meets the eye, something Anne had already begun to suspect. Thus begins an extremely odd courtship, where neither member seems to know when the acting ended and real relationship began. As to be expected there are many bumps along the way, but the ride is mostly fun. The problem is that both of them are deeply wounded, and aren't sharing with anyone, let alone a fake partner. Will they be able to get past their individual issues to let each other in, or will they be too stubborn and destroy the beginning of a really good thing? Interestingly they share similar problems in regard to who the problem involves, but they are on opposite ends of the spectrum, so it is a bit of a challenge to really relate to what the other suffering. In many ways this book is similar to its predecessor, Lick, in the emotional roller coaster that both of them are on. It was nice to watch Mal pull Anne out of her shell, bringing her closer to the carefree child she'd been before everything fell apart. And watching him push her to define her own boundaries and stop allowing people to take advantage of her sweet nature. In turn Anne got Mal to calm down, settle into his own skin, and allow himself to be vulnerable on occasion. Not too mention the way they accidentally drag other friends along with them. Especially Ev, as she'd made it crystal clear to the rest of the band that they weren't allowed to poach from her pool of friends. Which of course leads one to wonder, will Jimmy and/or Ben end up with other friends of Ev's?
