When Pinkalicious finds a merminnie - a species of miniature mermaid - at the beach, she presses the lost sea creature to spend the day with her, deaf to her continual pleas to be returned to her home. Pinkalicious and her brother Peter drag Aqua (the merminnie) around all day, building her a san castle, taking her to lunch, and to play miniature golf. Then they finally return her to the sea, only to discover that her "home" is the local aquarium/museum...The sixth and thus far final picture-book to feature the adventures of Pinkalicious, Aqualicious is notable (much like its predecessors) for its poorly written and poorly thought out story, its flat and uninspiring illustrations, and its obnoxious heroine. I didn't think that the bad behavior modeled by the heroine in Silverlicious, in which she spits out the treats left for her by various magical gift-givers, demanding something different and better, could be topped, but she was actually even worse here. I have a colleague who sarcastically described this book as a kidnapping story, and he's not too far off. I'm glad to be done with these picture-books, which I was reading for a work-related project, and which I decidedly do not recommend.

This is a modern fantasy story about a girl, Pinkalicious who picks up a shell and finds a merminnie, Aqua (a mini mermaid) living inside of it. After Aqua explained what a merminnie was to Pinkalicious she was placed into a bucket for all to see. However, when Pinkalicious takes Aqua out of the bucket, Aqua complains that she would really like to go back to her home and isn't meant to be in a bucket. And so, Pinkalicious and her brother Peter build a home out of sand for Aqua. However Aqua still wants to go back to her own personal home. Pinkalicious continues to take Aqua on adventures to eat lunch, miniature golfing, and surfing when all of a sudden a seagull swept Aqua away. Peter and Pinkalicious chased after the seagull. Finally when the seagull dropped Aqua the young children decided to bring Aqua out on a sail boat back to her home in the ocean. However, this is not her home and Aqua begins to scream and freak out. After talking with Aqua some more they realize her home is at the aquarium because she is a famous creature and that Aqua simply likes to sneak away and enjoy the beach sometimes during the day.
