About this audiobook

Anita Blake has the highest kill count of any vampire executioner in the country. She's a U.S. Marshal who can raise zombies with the best of them. But ever since she and master vampire Jean-Claude went public with their engagement, all she is to anyone and everyone is Jean-Claude's fiancée.

It's wreaking havoc with her reputation as a hard ass-to some extent. Luckily, in professional circles, she's still the go-to expert for zombie issues. And right now, the FBI is having one hell of a zombie issue.

Someone is producing zombie porn. Anita has seen her share of freaky undead fetishes, so this shouldn't bother her. But the women being victimized aren't just mindless, rotting corpses. Their souls are trapped behind their eyes, signaling voodoo of the blackest kind.

It's the sort of case that can leave a mark on a person. And Anita's own soul may not survive unscathed . . .

I am so bored with hearing about how much the men in Anita's life work out. I get it, they're shifters and buff. I don't need chapter upon chapter about their work outs. I'd give this more stars if half the book hadn't been fluff about working out. Not even sure why I keep reading this series anymore.

I am on the fence with this book. I enjoy the action scenes but can really do without the relationship hang-ups and internal history monologue. I mean seriously, summarizing the past when the other books are available to read is like cheating your loyal readers out of half of a story. I'm also tired of Hamilton's use of "said"; there are other options available. The story left a few loose ends like the Raphael angle and whether or not Anita actually took the camera man's footage like she mentioned she would.

I've quite buying books in the Anita Blake series because I just don't feel I'm getting what I would pay for. Anita started out as a judgmental, whiny, prudish misogynist, and is now a whiny, judgmental non-prudish misogynist. The sex scenes are not erotic and are basically cut and pasted from previous books, so that part's not worth the money. I do enjoy the interpersonal relationships among the secondary characters, and there is usually a fairly decent sub-plot beneath the whining and posturing. My biggest problem is that Anita hates women and she hates herself. Any term that describes women is used in a derogatory manner. Hamilton should just have Anita come out as a gay trans-sexual and have her get surgery so she can be the male she wants to be. Then Hamilton could just end the series.I still check her books out from the library though. I don't know why I keep reading them, except that I like the secondary characters and apparently I find them interesting enough to waste a couple of hours on these novels.Really, only good if you're stuck in an airport with nothing better to read and a bunch of extra money because Hamilton's books are priced above books of higher quality within the same genre.

Over the last three books, Ms. Hamilton has slowly restored my faith in the Anita Blake series. For a long time it felt like the story had derailed and devolved into too much gratuitous sex and not enough plot or character development. We are finally getting back to plot and character development and it is nice seeing Anita finally tackle the difficult things in her personal life as well as the changes that are happening in her professional life. Anita has always been more than a pretty face and getting to see her back in action and in her element has made me a happy reader.Would I recommend this book? Yes, I would. Ms. Hamilton has come back to the Anita we know and love.

The Anita Blake series has had it's ups and downs for me. I think any series that makes it to #24 will probably have a similar track record. Although I appreciate a some well written erotica, don't get me wrong, the volumes that were just basically 200 pages of well written porn seemed a bit excessive to me for a series that started out as urban fantasy. I think Hamilton has gotten back in her groove with this book. It has all the elements of that got me interested in the series in the first place with the addition of the interesting sexual situations she tends to get herself into in the later books.

I still read these with the hope that it will be less romantic interactions and more on the zombie raising crime fighting Anita from the early books. And I start the book and it seems to be going that way and then it slides down into group relationships and politics and sex. After years of furry politics how can Anita say she doesn’t know group dynamics of the were groups that live in St Louis. The story started out strong with a throwback to a zombie power that Antia though no one else know how to work but it turns out someone has figured out how to put a soul back into a zombie and they are using it for porn. Once that storyline is set up it is mostly forgotten about and deals with Asher causing drama in the group. The plot doesn’t get back to the FBI until almost the end. What the book does do is have Antia talking to Manny again and also talking to Larry. Not sure if this will continue in the future but it was nice to see her talking to older characters again.

Why do I keep reading these? Honestly, vampire drama just isn't that interesting, especially since it now revolves around a wedding. woo. I kept hoping the supernatural detective side would be more of the book, or even the smut would be more apparent, but no, it's the same constant stream of over-the-top, terribly beautiful and fit cast, vying for anita's bed. *yawn*

Today's lesson in how to properly run a multi poly relationship which includes BDSM relationships by Laurell K.

I still enjoy Anita herself, but I miss the old Anita so much. The books have gotten better so that they are not nonstop well written porn, but blah.

Zombies! This book is filled with zombies. Someone is producing zombie porn but this is an unusual variety. Anita can see souls trapped in the zombies' eyes. Anita is working with the FBI to try to track down the necromancer of voodoo practitioner who has learned this new technique. The only voodoo practitioner that Anita can think of who might be able to puts souls back into zombies is Dominga Salvador. But Anita knows it isn't her; she is very sure that she killed her. Anita is also having some trouble with a zombie that she raised. This one is way too life-like. Another animator, Anita's friend Manny, can't even pick Anita's zombie out of a crowd. Anita has to find a way to put him back into his grave before he turns into a flesh-eating zombie. It isn't only Anita who is finding her powers increasing, Jean-Claude is also finding his power to roll humans and werecreatures is getting much stronger. On the relationship front, Anita and Jean-Claude have become engaged in an over-the-top production including a horse drawn carriage and a videographer. She and Jean-Claude are still negotiating their wedding ring designs. But Anita is also planning a commitment ceremony with Micah and Nathaniel. There are problems with the tigers and their prophecy. There are problems with the werehyenas. And Asher is playing his careless games and disrupting things for Jean-Claude's new position as king of the American vampires. While this book is filled with talk about sex, it seems to have fewer graphically described sex scenes than the more recent entries in this series. Anita seems to be less conflicted about most of the relationships that she is involved in. She even comes to a realization about her youngest lover Sin.Fans of the series won't want to miss this episode.

Synopsis: Anita is approaching matrimony with Jean-Claude and having to deal with the over-the-top plans that are required of a king and queen. She is also having to deal with an entire legion of lovers-employees-subjects who are jealous/power hungry/love-sick and are creating havoc in her domestic and in her work lives. There is a rogue animator who is not only using zombies in sex films, but is putting their souls back in their bodies and torturing them; Anita has to catch this criminal and free the zombies.Review: The crime issue was rather brief; there were sufficient hints that lead the reader to knowing 'who done it'. These clues were scattered throughout lots of pages of 'human interaction' giving this book more of a flavor of 'slice of life' than mystery/crime. That said, it was still a page turner and much more intriguing than some of her earlier books.

I wouldn't want to have Anita's life -- it is just too hectic for me. Not even for all the gorgeous men. Several threads are developing here -- she needs to develop them faster. And where are they getting all this new power? It could bring unwelcome attention to them.

One of the better recent books by Hamilton. Not over laden with sex. I liked the discussion of species politics, the police work, and some of the characters. Too much description of clothes and interior decoration for my taste. This book had a plot but it also had several subplots, which were left-hanging, I assume for a future book. There are so many characters in Anita's life as friends, lovers, etc., I can't keep them all straight.

Way too little time spent on an enjoyable return to Anita's work with RPT, way too much of her relationship angst (as usual.) The absence of any HINT of editorial presence is, also as usual, offset by LKH's very fascinating and complex alternative reality.

Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy.allthingsuf.comIn a series that can be its own worst enemy, DEAD ICE is the best Anita Blake book in a long time. Though there are instances where Hamilton's own voice overwhelms the story, DEAD ICE also offers the necromancy, mystery, and romance of classic Anita Blake.Everything in Anita's world is a procedural, from choosing clothing to managing poly relationships to interacting with law enforcement agencies. This can be both a strength and a weakness. When the subject at hand flows with the storyline, the details can be mesmerizing. In some cases, however, Hamilton focuses on character vignettes and scenes that slow the story down to a crawl. At book 24 of a best selling series, it is no surprise that the editors are willing to leave in some "outtake" material, but DEAD ICE could have gone from good to great with a firmer hand on the red pen.Hamilton knows her characters intimately, and this leads to some of the best and worst parts of DEAD ICE. Though I could have skipped a few repetitive confrontations and dead end discussions, it was fantastic to see Anita back with the RPIT and living the (mostly) good life with her lovers.Sexual Content: Sex scenes, rape scenes.

I really enjoyed this book, just as I did Affliction, and love the return to the more crime/thriller storyline. However, it gets 4/5 instead of full marks because the end/final chase of the bad guy came very quickly and abruptly. This seems to be becoming a trend with LKH and it continues to bug me. I also had figured out who the bad guy was about half way through the story which sort of made the conclusion somewhat boring.

A near return to the earlier novels in the series. only a couple smut chapters, still a bit heavy on the emotional crap. Other than that, a decent read.

Better that the two most recent entries in the series... please find a substitution for the verb to spill. Why give Anita all the bad characteristics of male characters? what happened to make her the stupid girl? Polygamous relationships are normally better thought out than this one. I am hopeful that Anita will survive the characterization and return to a strong independent woman. right now, she exemplified a 16 year of. everyone in the story ,barring Asher and Caine, are mentally and emotionally more mature than Anita. It speaks poorly for her that everyone has to make allowances for her temper, violene, and unwillingness to deal with issues. Even Syn isemotionally more mature and balanced than Anita, and he is a 19 year old hormonal-ravaged boy. I remain hopeful that Anita will improve.

The FBI calls in Anita as a consultant when someone is raising zombies and capturing their souls and using them in online video porn. The most horrific aspect is that the zombies are aware, obviously scared and don’t want to be doing this. As far as Anita knows, Dominga Salvador is the only person who had figured out how to do that, and she’s been dead for a number of years. On the home front are designing wedding rings, relationship issues between a number of different characters, politics and a rather unique zombie raising. Now if I’d read this at my normal speed, I’d be leaving a lower star rating as you keep waiting for some action regarding the mystery and end up going thru a lot of descriptions and conversations that could/should have been edited down. But I keep a spreadsheet of all characters, normally worked on during a second read at a much slower pace and have always found important things buried in the areas I’m too anxious to get past during the first read. This time I did the slower read for the character collection first and I believe I enjoyed the story much more because of it.There is quite a bit of relationship issue discussion and although it begins with Anita’s own, it switches fairly early on to learning more about the issues being faced by many of those close to her. Angsty yes, but it does explain some stuff and that affects not only this story but future ones. You’ll also find a number of characters that we haven’t dealt with in awhile being brought up with some history provided, although some of them weren’t necessary and didn’t add anything to the current story. The couple of sex scenes we get are rather vanilla for Anita and don’t drag on for multiple chapters although the second one gets a little wonky. However a zombie raising (6 chapters), and later putting him back and the actions required because of it afterward (12 chapters) takes up a lot of real estate. It also provides a continuity issue between this book and the last where Anita raises not just all of the zombies in the cemetery she is in but all of the ones in the Boulder area with nothing more than Wicked and Truth taking some blood from her. Why did she need such a huge sacrifice this time for one zombie? The results are definitely interesting and might come back to bite her in the butt later. The majority of the story takes place in less than 48 hours with the bulk of the investigation taking place at the beginning and the end 3 days later. The capture and finale are actually longer than those in the last couple of books--definitely more emotional-- and I loved the outcome.Powers are still growing, not just Anita’s but some others as well. I did enjoy much of the tale, but LKH needs to let a good editor trim out the excess that isn’t adding any value and just burying the actual story.
