About this audiobook
When Zachary got a promotion, however, he left me in the dust. Maybe it's for the best, between his disloyalty and his wandering eye. But another man was waiting for me. Wanting me. He too has an overwhelming thirst for success, just like Zachary-perhaps even more so. He's also ruthless. And mysterious. I know nothing about Ryder McKay beyond that he makes me feel things I've never felt before.Contains mature themes.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Violet is the middle sister of a very powerful family who owns an international cosmetics company. Seen as fragile due to a tragic event that happened in her past, Violet has been dating the "safe" Zachary, a jerk who is basically using her to get ahead in the company all the while sowing his wild oats with other women. Ryder also works for Fleur Cosmetics and absolutely hates Zachary. He resents the fact that Zachary has moved up the chain faster than him and thinks Zachary's most recent promotion is due entirely to his relationship with Violet. So Ryder strikes up a plan to seduce Violet away from Zachary, which later gets turned into destroying Violet by Ryder's messed up partner in crime, Pilar.I had quite a few problems with the plot. First of all, Violet's traumatic past never really comes in to play. It's mentioned and then quickly brushed aside, which is bizarre as it's the only reason given for why people treat her like she'll easily break. Secondly, I put this book down numerous times and had to force myself to finish it, that's how disgusted I was with Ryder. I just did not feel like his past excused everything he was knowingly doing to Violet and he was so damned selfish. Violet definitely deserved better and I think she was way too quick to forgive him in the end.The sex is downright raunchy. There was one scene in particular that was difficult to read because Ryder was purposely trying to hurt Violet. It was weird that she didn't care and uncomfortable for me to read. Also, these people had A LOT of sex at work which is just totally unrealistic. I'm sure some people do that sort of thing but not with the frequency these two did . It was very surprising they never got caught.Anyway, it's a fast read if you can get over what Ryder's doing and don't mind the lack of a romantic connection beyond sex.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Owning Violet is a fast paced and very sexy-there is a definite emphasis on sex in this novel. I really loved how Monica Murphy gave Violet and Ryder different personalities that is very distinguishable in the book. I wish the story line would have had more depth to it, but it was a nice read nonetheless. There is a sense of growth from the Violet and Ryder, but I found myself sometimes annoyed with them, which is surprising since I usually love the hot and cold emotions in relationships between characters. Overall, I enjoyed Owning Violet.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Unfortunately, I have had my fill of these books were sex is the main staple and the plot is a side dish. The characters end up being so shallow and oversexed.Violet is the perfect daughter of leader of a cosmetic empire. When her "perfect" boyfriend turns out to be a jerk, Violet is rip for the plucking. In comes Ryder, who systematically seduces her until he realizes it's no longer about sex and using Violet. Ryder really does care about her.so as the story progresses Violet gets a backbone and finally lets the men in her life know that she won't put up with being trampled on. She finally begins to require more respect. So Ryder has to reexamine his goals and decide whether or not he will fight for Violet. There was just too much sex for me to enjoy this story. Violet was also pretty pathetic as a female character. She definitely wasn't as blind as she was acting. I don't know if I would be able to tolerate book 2.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Decided to try this book on a whim, and didnt know exactly what to expect. But it's a fun and racy read!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was the first Monica Murphy book I've read and it didn't disappoint! Usually in erotica/romance books I have a hard time liking the female character, and I did for the first part of this book. Violet seemed too dependent on others and too fragile for my liking but as the story progressed she became more likable and I could start to understand her ways. I pretty much hated Ryder the entire time but I also loved Ryder the entire time, he's the typical rough bad boy but that's what makes him so fascinating to read. The book was steamy, but that was no surprise based on the cover and the synopsis. I found that the author did a great job with the steamier scenes by not making them too over the top which is easy to do when dealing with sex in books. The only problem I had was that it seemed too sex oriented and I kept craving more romantic, gentle interaction between Violet and Ryder. Overall this was a fun, sexy read and I will definitely be continuing the series.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Owning Violet by Monica Murphy is an exciting and yet somewhat confusing tale of contemporary romance. Though I find it to be more of a novel of erotica than contemporary romance. If you're shy about descriptive sex than this one will be stronger than what you are prepared for. But give it a chance, sex when well written and emotional is a powerful and beautiful scene. When done poorly it becomes pornographic and sloppy. Monica Murphy handles her scenes very well.Violet Fowler has always done what is expected of her. She is the middle daughter, the dutiful daughter, of the three Fowler sisters. Violet runs her family company, dates the right kind of man and does whatever will reflect on her family best.Only Zachary, her fiancé isn't really the right kind of guy. Not underneath it all. He cheats and uses her to gain position and favor in her father's company. Her family is in disarray and she is constantly having to take care of two other sisters, leaving very little of her own life to live. Then comes in Ryder McKay, the wrong kind of man in every sense of the word. But for once, Violet wants something for herself. Violet wants something to change her world."..'Violet?' I wait until I reach the door before I face him once more, reaching out my hand to rest it on the handle. 'Yes?' 'Wear the red dress tonight.' He smiles, looking slightly devilish as he lets that wicked gaze roam over me yet again. 'I like you in red.' There's an undercurrent to his request. An unspoken meaning, as if he's demanding I wear red to please him and no one else..."Violet sets out on an emotional and sexual journey with Ryder, allowing him feel and explore parts of her physical and emotional being that she has kept shut off from everyone else. In doing so, she also opens him up to her as well. But Ryder is not who he acts like he is and with the future of her father's company at stake, who can she really trust.Owning Violet is an exciting and heated take on a woman's coming of age experience, though experienced much later in life than normal. I said it was confusing because for many, the title and cover of the book is misleading. No one owns Violet in this book. No one really controls her. This is not a dominatrix and submissive relationship she and Ryder share. In fact there are very strong moments when she is more in control than he is. There is no BDSM. There is some rough passionate sex, but by most standards of what is written, it is very vanilla.Hey but vanilla is not bad. It is still the most popular flavor of ice cream and the base from which all others grow, so don't take that wrong. Vanilla, when done well, and in Owning Violet it is done very well indeed, is very enjoyable and satisfying.Owning Violet as a story leaves a lot of loose ends. The characters scheming to take the company from Violet and her father don't really get exposed for who they are and seem to suffer no consequences. The sisters are still screwed up and whatever their problems are, stay unresolved. This is book one of what seems to be an ongoing series so perhaps they will be addressed in futures tales.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Wow, what a steamy read! This was my first book by Monica Murphy, and I am sure it is the first of many! Violet is the middle sister of the Fowler sisters. On the outside looking in, Violet appears to have the perfect life. Seeming to be the perfect daughter, sister and girlfriend; and is even poised to take over her family’s cosmetic empire with Zachary, who she believes to be the perfect boyfriend and future husband. Therefore, it is no surprise, that she is the subject of envy by many. The biggest lie of all is that Violet believes her relationship with her boyfriend Zachary to be perfect. Nothing could be further from the truth. He constantly cheats on her, refuses to propose and will betray her at the drop of a dime. Then everything changes. Ryder McKay comes from a total opposite side of world. Having been raised on the streets until he was saved, Ryder is now an important team member at Violet's family business. But alas nothing comes without a price. And Ryder's intentions are not totally altruistic. A fact, which he openly avows to Violet. But Violet is instantly hooked, glorifying in the feelings that Ryder commands within her. So much so, that notwithstanding his warnings, she just might be willing to risk it all!Can there possibly be a HEA in store for this couple? Moreover, be warned this story is twisted! Just when you think you know where it is going, think again! The only constant that you can count on is that this story is hot, hot, hot! I loved the mix of steamy scenes and the intriguing suspense!Source: Review copy provided in exchange for an honest review.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I have mixed feelings about Owning Violet. Though I enjoyed reading it, I felt that the balance between sex and plot was weighted too far toward sex. I would have liked further development of the emotions and experiences of the characters. It could have gone deeper into the nonsexual interactions interactions between the main characters especially. However, I did enjoy the story quite a bit.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I was prepared not to like "Owning Violet." However it free me in right away. It the first in a trilogy about three sisters whose family owns a famous cosmetics company. I liked the lead characters. I will say if you are turned off by lots of explicit sex and dirty talk this might not be the book for you.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I was half way through with this book and I didn't want it to ever end. I'm lovign this author and this has to be my favorite title of hers to day. I wish I knew more of the background of the characters and it could've definately been a series, I wanted to know more about Ryder, the sex scenes were hot and I highly recommend this one
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Violet is an executive at her family cosmetic business. Expecting to get engaged her relationship takes different turn. Ryder looking to get ahead in the company plans a scheme that involves getting close to Violet to advance his career. As he gets to know Violet his career is no longer his motivation. This book falls into the usual pattern of this genre but it is decently written and worth a read if you want a quick read. Interested to learn about the other sisters in the forthcoming books.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5If you are a Jodi Malpas fan, read this book! (The writing style reminds me a lot of her books.)High level angst, sexual tension, STEAM, suspense...it's all here! Read it, just read it!I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
