About this audiobook

RESCUE ME

Cedar Ridge, Colorado, is famous for crisp mountain air, clear blue skies, and pine-scented breezes. And it's the last place Lily Danville wants to be. But she needs a job, and there's an opening at the hottest resort in her hometown. What has her concerned is the other hot property in Cedar Ridge: Aidan Kincaid-firefighter, rescue worker, and heartbreaker. She never could resist that devastating smile . . .

The Kincaid brothers are as rough and rugged as the Rocky Mountains they call home. Aidan has always done things his own way, by his own rules. And never has he regretted anything more than letting Lily walk out of his life ten years ago. If anyone has ever been in need of rescuing, she has. What she needs more than anything are long hikes, slow dances, and sizzling kisses. But that can only happen if he can get her to give Cedar Ridge-and this bad boy-a second chance . . .

Can the men in Second Chance Summer by Jill Shalvis be completely fictional? I sort of doubt it. On one hand I believe that when something looks too good to be true, it probably is, but at the same time, it is unimaginable that a woman could pen men with such great dialogue without having some influences in her life. The Kincaid brothers are all irresistible alpha males who are tough as nails, but have the most amazing ability to be tender and loving in a woman's arms and protectors who never come across as neanderthals.

Jill Shalvis must pull from one or several of the following:
~ She is surrounded by all the best men
~ She is honest in writing male characters who she is attracted to
~ She has polled a million woman to find out what wets their whistle
~ She was a man in a previous life

I can't resist a good second chance romance, and the title of this says it all. A couple of other things that seal the deal are the small town setting, interesting supporting characters, hot but tender romance, and a family that is as loyal to each other as any I have seen.

The only difficulty that I found unforgivable was Lily's grief. There are those rare characters who I can sympathize with and others I want to put out of their misery. Lily walked that line with me for awhile, but in the end I found that she made more of an effort to hold on to her grief in spite of the fact that she claimed otherwise.

I was so drawn to Aidan and Lily's relationship. These two have the most amazing chemistry. There romance is yummy hot and balanced with believable romance. Like most romance books I could predict the end, but I always gauge my experience by the ride that I experienced, how believable the romance is, how naturally it unfolds and the feels that I am left with in the end. Second Chance Summer delivered in all areas and I even teared up at the end. Bravo!

A brand new series from one of my favorite authors, so I was so excited to read it. If you like romance with a hot firefighter (and seriously, who doesn't) and second chance romance then this book is for you. I'm looking forward to see how this goes since the whole family is considered bad boys. This is the second book I've read lately where the MC was suffering from guilt and this one was a sweet ride to forgiveness.

Very good book. Lily left Cedar Ridge ten years earlier, trying to escape the memories of her sister's and father's tragic deaths. But her terrific life in San Diego suddenly became less so, and in need of a job, she has come home to help a friend there. The last person she wants to run into (and the first one she does) is Aidan, the guy she left behind.Aidan was great. He had been a bit of a bad boy and troublemaker back in his teens, but the best thing that had happened to him was Lily. He was devastated when she left town without a word. Since then, he's turned his energies to firefighting, search and rescue, and helping with his family's resort. He has his own painful past - a father that deserted the family, multiple half-siblings from his father's other relationships, and knowing that the resort is in financial trouble that is bearing down rapidly on them. A strong family relationship helps keep it all going. He's surprised to see Lily again, and determined to protect his heart from being hurt again. I liked Lily. She's a nice person, friendly, with a bit of sass to her. She's also dealing with some trouble that wasn't entirely her fault. Working in a salon that caters to the stars comes with its own problems, and she got caught up in some of those problems. What hurt her was that her boss (and boyfriend) let her take the fall, and now she's paying the price. Her friend from home has hired her to fill in at the salon he manages, which gives her a place to recover while she looks for a new job. I loved the reigniting of the relationship between Lily and Aidan. Though he wouldn't admit it, Aidan is a nurturer, and from the start he can't resist taking care of Lily. She insists she doesn't need it, and doesn't want it, but it doesn't take long for him to start getting past her walls. I loved the scenes with the firewood, and how Aidan just rolls over her protests. The attraction between them strikes sparks whenever they are together. The connection that they feel scares Lily, who is afraid to love anyone again. Aidan, whose feelings have grown quite fast, is patient, and encourages her to work through her feelings at her own pace. I loved how he was there for her when she needed the support, and yet could step back when she needed him to. It doesn't mean he's perfect, as he does have at least one boneheaded moment, but he does a good job of redeeming himself. Lily really fights her feelings, until a stormy rescue event reminds her that life can be all too short. I loved the post rescue moments, both on and off the mountain, which were both romantic and funny. The supporting characters were all great. I loved Aidan's brothers and the loving, fun and snarky relationship that they had. I loved the pranks they pulled on each other. I'd love to know more about how Penny and Gray got together, as I suspect it would be quite a story. As one of the half-siblings, Hudson has some of his own issues, but his love for his family is unmistakable. We only heard of Jacob in this one, and I'm looking forward to learning more about him. The boys' mother is fantastic. I loved her way of straightening them out. Their reactions to her dating were hysterical, and I loved seeing her take advantage of it. Lily's friend Jonathan, who gave her the job at the salon, was great. I loved his combination of support and straight talk. He's determined to make Lily see that she belongs in Cedar Ridge.

I really enjoyed every minute of this story. I am pretty sure that this is the first book by Jill Shalvis that I have read which is pretty amazing when you consider how many books she has written and the fact that I am constantly reading. I honestly don't know how I have missed her work. I guess I have a little catching up to do as soon as I get the chance. This is one of those rare cases when I can tell you exactly the one thing that made me love this book. That one thing is Aiden. He is just a fantastic character and I loved absolutely every single thing about him. If I lived in Cedar Ridge, I would probably get myself lost in the woods just so he could come and save me. Every page that Aiden was on left me smiling. All I have to do is think about this hot firefighting guy and I still find myself grinning. It has been a really long time since I fell head over heels in love with Hero like this.Don't get me wrong, I liked Lily as well but she was no Aiden. Lily had some spunk and was able to accept what life had brought her. She wasn't happy about her situation but she tried to make the most of it. The way that she dealt with the issues from her past felt authentic to me and I have to admit that I would not have handled gathering my own wood nearly as well as she did in this story. I loved all of Aiden's family and his firefighter partner, Mitch. I think that sometimes romance novels can get bogged down by too many additional characters but every single character that was introduced in this book actually added to the story. The cast of characters in this story added a lot of lighthearted humor which really made the book a lot of fun. I am really looking forward to seeing some of these characters again in future installments.I liked Aiden and Lily as a couple. I liked the fact that this was a second chance romance with both of them still having feelings for each other. I think in this case the fact that they were both hesitant to jump into anything really showed how much they cared about each other. In some ways, their relationship seemed to move very quickly but they still held something back from each other. I did like the way the romance progressed overall.I would recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance. This is the first book in the new series by Jill Shalvis and it is a great place to start for readers new to this author like I was. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book which I am really hoping will tell Mitch's story. I received an advance reader edition of this book from Grand Central Publishing via NetGalley for the purpose of providing an honest review.

Shalvis created some good characters and left a lot of their stories open for more.

I'm a big fan of Ms. Shalvis. I'm going to start by saying this one isn't my favorite (but it's still excellent).

The good: If you've ready any of Jill Shalvis's books, you know that they are steamy, and that a lot of the times the romances are based on chemistry. A big plus for this one - while there is plenty of steam, there is plenty of heart to go with it. Emotions, big and bold to accompany that steam, more so than in most of the other books I've read.

The bad: The first quarter of the book felt a little like we're trying to hard to make the hero the biggest bad-ass ever written. Assholery? (there is a tendency to create new words based on the level of bad-ass-ness). Not one of the better starts to a story.

The story? A severely emotionally damaged woman, a man carrying baggage of his own. We come to expect that from Ms. Shalvis, and this story is no exception. Going back to the bad, I felt she was trying to out-do herself on the damagedness of the characters (I can make up words, too). I liked Aiden's steadfastness, I wasn't too sure about Lily's need for isolation.

Bottom line - it was still an excellent read, but not the first one I'd recommend if you are new to Jill Shalvis books.

Good emotional growth, but there was a lot of alpha male bossypants going on, which really bugged me.

I absolutely love Jill Shalvis. She is amazing so when I got the chance to review Second Chance Summer, I jumped at the chance. I love the cover. I think it does a great job depicting Aiden. I also liked the writing and it the book was well edited.

As for the characters, I loved Lily. I felt that the author did a great job portraying all the aspects of Lily’s character; her pain, her passion, her love and sadness.

I loved Aiden as well. His dedication to his jobs and his family is well-portrayed.

With respect to the secondary characters, I loved Aiden’s mom. She is funny and doesn’t let anyone run her life. I also loved Jonathan, Lily’s best friend. I love how supportive he is of Lily and how he encourages her.

As for the rest of the Kincaid family, I love them. I love how they look out for each other and how they are a true family, regardless of the circumstances which I won’t get into here. Although, I feel sorry for Kenna as the only girl with all those brothers.

I would definitely recommend this book to others. I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series and getting to know the rest of the Kincaid family better.

Sweet romantic, adventurous hero, recovery, and second chance love.Lilly, is coming back home with her tail between her legs. She was fired from a high end salon in San Diego after a big leak from her about a certain star. Blacklisted and humbled to the bone, she is home to face the demons that made her run a decade ago.Aidan, it the hottie rescue guy about the mountain, and one of three brothers who happen to own the resort she ends up working at. Aidan, never forgot Lilly, didn't understand why she left or why she didn't return his calls. His family runs the resort where she will be working, a struggling resort. He wants to talk to her to know why, and he's frustrated with her distance. It's a good thing he is tenacious. The romance is a hard one, the dead sister is a wall that Lilly will not break down. She is riddled with guilt and too much inner dialog in my humble opinion. This girl thinks, and goes over ridiculous thoughts and what if's, She might have irritated me, okay she did. I can't stand it when somebody doesn't just say it. That is my only complaint, really.I enjoyed the story loved the brothers and the Mother was a blast. There is a lot of fun in these pages and some hot and spicy moments too. I already ordered book 2
