About this audiobook

Since the day Lord Dillon earned his spurs, rumors of his savagery on the battlefield have preceded him into every room, stilling tongues and sparking fear. Weary of battle, he wishes only to find a woman he can wed who will approach him not with fear, but with the tenderness that has been absent from his life for so long. Yet only the wisewoman seems invariably at ease in his presence.

For seven years, Alyssa has been by Lord Dillon's side-counseling him from the shadows, healing him, and staving off the worst of his loneliness. Blessed-or cursed-with gifts that label her a sorceress, she is forced to conceal her youth and the love she harbors for him, leading Dillon and his people to believe she is the same wisewoman who served his father.

All is revealed, however, and passions flare when an enemy threatens Dillon's life and Alyssa sacrifices everything to save him. When Dillon discovers that the wisewoman is far from elderly, he is instantly entranced. And, as he and Alyssa work together to defeat an enemy bent on destroying them both, Dillon will risk anything-even the wrath of his king-to be with her.

4 1/2 stars.I enjoyed this book. It is one of the prequels to the Immortal series with Seth. If you don't know who Seth is he is the Supreme Gifted One. Although he played a minor role in the book it was still good. This book is about Alyssa and her love for Dillon.

Good ? fast moving and interesting. I am ready for the next part to this series. As I have read all of Dianne's Immortal books but one they are well worth it. So gear up and enjoy!!!!!

    Another great Dianne Duvall story.
Sad to learn that there are only 2 in the series-I like the Medieval background that the Guardian series lacks.

A favorite of mine that I listen to again and again. This is a marvelous fantasy that is well done. The emotional drama was realistic and fully filled out. The main characters, and even secondary characters, are fully fleshed out. Their individual personalities allow you to know them and become fully invested in the many lines they travel. The main bad guy was evil as well as delusional. The minions were menacing. The varied good guys, and girls, were interesting and often humorous. I enjoyed every minute.

The book was amazing!! Absolutely loved it. Only reason it isn’t getting 5 stars is because the audio would stop and “freeze” near the end and that may have been more on scribed then the audio.

This is a kind of prequel to Duvall's Immortal Guardians series. The heroine is from a family of psychically Gifted Ones in the 11th century. The premise, that a 16-year-old girl can successfully disguise herself as her ancient grandmother for seven years, is barely plausible, but this IS fantasy. As a stand-alone novel, it's pleasant and there's a satisfying HEA. There are cameo appearances by several of the Immortal Guardians we know and love. BTW--not a vampire to be seen!

Listened for Fun (Audiobook Purchase Tantor)Overall Rating: 4.50Story Rating: 4.50Character Rating: 4.50Audio Rating: 5.00 (nor part of the overall rating)First Thought when Finished: Oh I love that we are getting the "prequel" series--A Sorceress of His Own by Dianne Duvall was exactly the excellent storytelling I have come to expect when reading anything in the Immortal Guardians world. PLUS SETH!Overall Thoughts: I like this look back in time to Gifted Ones and their origins. I like the idea that Seth has been "protecting" for a long time. Take all the connections to the Immortal Guardians away though and you still have a rock solid romance with it's own very unique world. The fact that this couple is in a time where superstitions were rampant and they not only fall in love but prevail was just entertaining to listen too. I loved Alyssa--her sacrifice, courage, and ability to do what was right in spite of what she wanted made me love her more. Though it really was swoon-worthy Dillon that made me fall in love from the beginning. It is no secret that I like it when the men figure it out first and this is a prime example of why. This was just a timeless romance that would have worked in any age but shined brilliantly in that one.Audio Thoughts:Narrated By Kirsten Potter/ Length: 11 hrs and 25 minsKirsten knocked the narration for this story out of the park. I am a pretty big fan of her voice but I think this is the best narration that I have heard her do. It was tricky accents but she pulled them off well. Well done Kirsten! Well Done!Part of my Read It, Rate It, File It, Done! Reviews

    Paranormal Historical = Winner

This first book in the Gifted Ones series predates the authors previous Immortal Guardians series and centers around a gifted one known to most as Wise One and the Feared Earl of Wescott. This book is full of constant action and has great characters and chemistry. It has a historical feel to it with a paranormal twist that makes for a great read!
