This is the seventh book in the Southern Vampire Mysteries series, and it is exciting, but a little mystifying. Sookie Stackhouse is getting deeper and deeper into the vampire world, and disregarding everyone's warnings about doing so. I read the Sookie Stackhouse books because they remind me of the very beginning of the Anita Blake series; before Anita was a slutty pro-vamp psychopath. So seeing Sookie be so into the vamps and so comfortable with them, and watching her stop questioning a lot of what they do was frightening. For those who left the Anita Blake books for the same reasons I did, I am glad to say that Sookie has her hormones well under control in this book (only one real sex scene), but her morals are a little more questionable, and she's a little scarier. She's not forced to face that until close to the end of the novel, and even then, she avoids the issue. I liked this installment in the series, though, overall. Sookie is a great character, and Harris never really has Sookie do something completely unbelievable. You may argue with Sookie, but you'll never see her acting OOC. I think this book was a really quick read, and the ending needed a little more tying up to suit me, but that's also a bonus, because it adds to Sookie's reluctance to face herself and her choices. I recommend this book, and can't wait for the next one. I just hope that Sookie finds out what matters most to her, and manages to keep herself from crossing the thin black line.

When I first started the Sookie Stackhouse series, I really enjoyed them, reading one after another in quick order. However, my patience began to wane by the 4th one and the 5th and 6th had me rolling my eyes. I wondered whether I would even continue the series. But I'm glad I did. Finally, this 7th installment, All Together Dead, kept my attention from the beginning and some of my favorite characters became prominent once again. It was an exciting, quick read. It reignited my joy in the series and I can only hope it means that the series will regain its strength.

In this Sookie Stackhouse installment, Sookie has been requested to work for the Vampire Queen of Louisiana as they attend a very important vampire summit. The Queen needs Sookie to use her telepathic powers to "listen" to her enemies, as the Queen will be on trial for the murder of her Vampire husband, the King of Arkansas. The Queen's stature has weakened since Hurricane Katrina has effected her economic status.Joining Sookie and the Queen, will be Vampire Eric, a sometimes romantic interest of Sookie's, her ex-boyfriend, Vampire Bill, and Sookie's current boyfriend, Quinn, a were-tiger.But this trip is business for Sookie and she must uncover several plots; some to destroy the Queen and one to kill all the vampires. Sookie gets help from fellow telepath, Barry the Bellboy, who now works for the vampire King of Texas. My review: I liked this one fairly well, but I do prefer the ones were Sookie is back home in Bon Temps. This had a whole other dimension of vampire politics, which Sookie manages quite well. She continues to get more confident in her abilities as a telepath but also as an intellegent, independent woman.I am ready for Quinn to be gone, though he treats Sookie well, as I want some Sookie/Eric love happening. I hope there is a little more romance/sex in the next two books left in the series! my rating 3.5/5

The Sookie books are filled with adventure, mystery and carnality, but by the end of each novel very little has actually happened. Harris spends a good half the novel describing various characters' clothes and how sexy they look, and another fourth going over how Sookie feels about her (many) paramours. That only leaves a few pages of actual plot, which concerns a vampire conference plagued by mysterious deaths.

This is the seventh book in the Sookie series, it's getting kind of old but there is still some fun in reading the books. It would help to read the previous books before starting this one as it has to deal with other issues that started in previous books.

I dislike Quinn. He' s smarmy, had purple eyes, and (in this book), a tragic past. Ugh.

Sookie is still annoying, but I have to finish the silly series because i have to know what comes next, damn it.

    Also: Barry the bellboy.

The vampire summit was very intriguing because we got to learn about the inner workings of the vampire government. That was the most interesting thing about this book. There was way too much foreshadowing of the bombing and it was obvious when they mentioned the suitcase that didn't belong to anyone. It's all I could think about while I was reading this book because it was so obvious what was going to happen. And then Harris tries to throw you off with the pop can, but that didn't fool anyone. I feel like Harris really wanted this book to be a WOW moment, but it wasn't because of the excessive/blunt foreshadowing. I think that Quinn is alright for Sookie, but I was annoyed with all of the hinting at his "terrible" past because it wasn't actually horrible. I don't really understand why you would keep it a secret from your girlfriend who knows all about weres and vampires. Sookie can handle it.The blood bond is interesting and I look forward to seeing how this changes their relationship in the long run ( I really want to see more of them and for their relationship to deepen even further than it already has). Finally, I am slightly annoyed that Harris thought parts of this story were believable. For example, why would anyone believe that you could scare a kick-ass vampire queen into marriage? Harris didn't give us any reason to believe that the Queen was worried about being overthrown or targeted directly, so why on earth would she be scared of a random attack (that didn't result in any injuries). Just seems a bit of a stretch for me.

I have been trying to get caught up on this series, and I think I am getting a little tired of Sookie's world. The vampire summit meeting was interesting, and learning more about vampire justice was interesting too. But the secondary story about people sabotaging the meeting was a little too easy to figure out. I new right from the beginning what the "big plan" was for infiltrating the hotel. And I was bothered that none of the characters figured it out fast enough.

Sookie develops more of a relationship with Quinn, and we learn his dark secret past. There are more developments with Eric. Bill is left out of most of the action this time around.

This is still a fun series to read, and I plan on reading #8 soon.

I thought it was well done - things are getting more and more complicated for Sookie Stackhouse as she's gotten into the middle of various plots - vampires against vampires, humans against vampires - as well as having a were-tiger, a couple of vampires and a telepath interested in her. Lots to juggle in this one.

I think I'm starting to lose patience with these books. This is probably partially because I'm reading them all in such a short time, but I just feel like Harris's 'verse has so much potential and sometimes the plot ends up more boring than I'd anticipated. This one has a much better premise, in my opinion, but there weren't any new characters which were that interesting (Barry could've been so awesome, for instance).

Of course, my favourite thing was the blood bond, but increasingly I'm bored with anything not involving Sookie, Eric, Pam, or Amelia. I'd hoped the Queen and Andre would continue to be sympathetic characters, but that didn't happen. I wish she'd delve deeper into her characters instead of focusing on mundane Mary Sue-ish things like shopping and outfits. The books could definitely use more insight.

An irrelevant aside: did anybody else notice that Harris has a thing for guys coming in their pants? Quinn did once, and Eric has twice now. This is not a complaint on my part.

At this point I'm just wanting to finish what's been written so far, in anticipation of upcoming Eric/Sookie scenes. Maybe the fandom for these books will grow substantially enough for there to be fanfiction which surpasses the quality of the canon (like Harry Potter, for instance). I know there are smart women with more sense than Charlaine Harris out there reading these things.

In this book we learn more about Vampire politics and how things are run. Sookie is hired by the Queen of LA to be at her side durning a vampire summit. I love the story telling in this book and how I could picture the hotel the sumit was being held. I thought the characters were enjoyable and I really liked the action in this book.

I absolutely loved this book and this series! I got involved with this series before True Blood became a show and I couldn't quit reading. I ended up getting all caught up and then had to wait each year for the next to come out until Harris finally reached the end of the series (I was devastated and wanted more Sookie Stackhouse in my life). It's been nearly 10 years since I read the first one and probably getting close to time for a re-read!

Sookie accompanies Sophie Ann, the Queen of Louisiana, and her entourage to the Vampire Summit in Illinois. There she must contend not only with the political machinations of the various vampire factions, and the murder of the Arkansas contingent, but also a possible terror attack that may wipe out everyone she knows.

The mystery in this installment is one of the more predictable and could have been resolved more easily if Sookie didn't have the terrible tendency toward forgetting important details that later come back to haunt her. How can someone be so willfully blind?

Sookie's problems with the men in her life continue: Jason makes a commitment that may have disastrous consequences for his sister. Circumstances lead Eric to forge an even tighter bond with Sookie than before, and Quinn's actions force her to rethink their relationship. At least Bill's betrayal has put the kibosh on that romance, and Calvin and Alcide have apparently realized their unsuitability.

Aside from all this, there are some compelling developments. In a surprising heart-to-heart, Pam reveals her past with Eric and it is a doozy! The vampire world is shaken to the core with the unforeseen deaths of several characters and Sookie rethinks her future with the supernaturals in her life.

All in all, an action packed addition to the series, and the twists and turns should make for interesting reading in the future.

Man this one really takes the cake for beating up characters. Poor Sookie has it real rough in this book. But Barry the Bellboy is back, which is awesome. Pam is awesome, Quinn is awesome, Eric is less awesome than he was but still cool. This one's really great because of how much Sookie is forced to put up with, and how she somehow still maintains her pride and good sense of character. She's still one of my all-time favorite heroines. She does so much stuff, saves so many days, and still manages to get a boyfriend or too here and there.

Another enjoyable Sookie Stackhouse book. It's been interesting how she has progressed and how I recognize names from the show True Blood but they are so different in the books. This one I don't think could stand on its own. I think you would have to read the earlier ones to understand what is going on. Still love the narrator of the audio books.

I really love Sookie Stackhouse and I am gonna miss reading about her and Bon Temps, I am almost finishing the series though I don't want it to end! So I am glad there is a TV series for the books.

The summit, which has attracted undead power players from all over the central United States, is sure to be tense, due in no small part to the ramping up of protests by the conservative, anti-vampire Fellowship of the Sun. Accused of murdering her husband, the King of Arkansas, Sophie-Anne is set to stand trial at the convention. The Queen is already in a precarious position, her power base weakened by the damage to New Orleans from Hurricane Katrina, and there are some vampires who would like to finish what nature started. Sophie-Anne's main accuser is Jennifer Cater, a vampire who had been training to be the king's lieutenant at the time of his death. Jennifer is determined to see Sophie-Anne staked in the sun for murdering the king, although Sookie knows the Queen is innocent of the crime.

Sophie-Anne plans to put Sookie's gift to good use, having her "listen in" on the thoughts of the humans working for the other vampires at the convention as well as for the hotel, as alliances are formed and allegiances tested in what can only be described as a political power struggle of potentially deadly implications. The story opens with Sookie entering Fangtasia to talk to Eric and those who pay him fealty, as they discuss the accusations against Sophie-Anne. Sookie agrees to work for Sophie-Anne, despite the warnings of her fairy godmother, Claudine, that being at the convention will forever tie Sookie to vampire politics in the mind of all of the attendees, in a very public way. Meanwhile, her relationship with Quinn heats up.

At the convention, Sookie meets Barry "Bellboy" Horowitz, the only other telepath she knows. Soon after they arrive, Jennifer Cater and most of the Arkansas entourage are brutally murdered, which simplifies the trial for the Queen. Sookie soon proves invaluable to the Queen as she makes the great suggestion that the Queen appoint her closest friend and "child," Andre, to be King of Arkansas, and then to marry him. Sookie also finds a bomb planted outside of the Louisiana suite, and saves the Queen. She also uncovers something shocking about Quinn—as a teen, he killed a group of men who were raping his mother, and then became indebted to some local vampires in order to cover up the crime. He had to work as a weretiger/gladiator in a ring for three years, and in the process became a fearsome fighter.

At the Queen's trial, Sookie saves the queen yet again as, being the only witness, she applies logic to prove that the queen is innocent and that her accusers are being manipulated. In response, one of the main accusers is staked right in the courtroom. Impressed with her usefulness, Andre accosts Sookie and begins to force her to exchange blood with him, to tie her permanently and closely to the queen. She escapes this violation only by the intercession of Eric, who has her exchange more blood with him. This third, major blood exhange with Eric causes Sookie to become more powerful, and frighteningly vampiric, even though she is still human. She can feel Eric very powerfully, and he now has the power to turn her into a vampire at any time. Sookie realizes with dread that she will never be free of Eric's control.

Sookie and Barry the Bellboy then puts together a number of clues they have had throughout the convention and realize that multiple bombs have been planted throughout the hotel by the Fellowship of the Sun, and they are set to go off during the daytime when the vampires will all be asleep and helpless. She and Barry's quick thinking enable some vampires and some humans to get free, and Barry and Sookie team up to use their telepathy to find injured humans. Sookie finds Andre, who has only minor injuries, and watches impassively as Quinn stakes him in order to free her from his control. Queen Sophie-Anne escapes, but loses her legs. Bill, Eric, and Pam escape with minor injuries, but the death toll for humans and vampires is very high.

I kind of remember this one..... I liked the duplicitous actions of the vampires against their own & the politics of the Queen....

The actions of the fundamentalists were more than awful and I can see the parallels between the fictional hating vampires & the non-fictional hating of gays in today's society....

The seventh instalment of this series and still going strong. Sookie has to attend a vampire summit in Rhodes as an employee of the Queen of Louisiana, Sophie-Ann Leclerq. Trying to balance her everyday life with her role in the vampire world is not easy and the competing attentions of her vamp exes, Bill and Eric, and her new beau, weretiger Quinn, are not helping! Harris cleverly builds in mystery into her books to keep it interesting making them addictive. I've already started the next book in the series, From Dead to Worse.

Sookie is such an incredibly written character! She is smart yet naïve, caring yet vengeful, and extremely devoted to those she loves-be they living or dead! Each Sookie Stackhouse book is quite the adventure that leaves you itching to open the next Sookie Stackhouse book. They are filled with twists and turns, especially where her heart is concerned....... who to love......human or vampire, shifter or vampire, werewolf or vampire...... the choices just keep coming. I followed up the Twilight series with the Sookie Stackhouse series. A good, soft transition into more paranormal romance. Too much hype for Charlaine Harris's books because of the HBO series than deserved. The HBO series is fine; the books are fine, but the plot/mystery of each book is simple. Very quick read -- straightforward plot with friendly characters that are easy to like. If you enjoy paranormal, you will probably enjoy this series, but there truly are more gripping, non-plain vanilla paranormal series out there (both in terms of adult scenes and dynamic realtionships between various beings in the paranormal realm). My 4-star rating is based on my thoughts just after reading, but would probably garner only 3-stars after having read Alexancer Ivy, Jacqueline Frank and Gena Showalter. I stopped reading this series after the 9th book...

I am finally continuing on my Sookie series. It has been awhile since I picked this series up. I almost forgot all that had happened in the previous book. Sookie is helping the Vamps again in this book. The Vamps are having a summit and the queen of Louisiana is also up for trial because she supposedly murdered her Arkansas King fiance. Since Sookie is a telepath and is a witness to the murder the queen requires her presence at the Summit. She will be paid for this service.I felt that Sookie has misgivings about helping the vamps but also fears that if she doesn't she might not be able to live either. Her friend Tara, Sam and others try to talk her out of helping them. Her boyfriend Quinn will be there running things for the vamps too. Sookie is her usual entertaining self. You also get to see Barry the other Telepath in this book. Not sure what I think of him.

Lots of good moments in this book, I felt that there were a few too many plots going on, frankly. 3 different and mostly unrelated crimes were a bit much to try sussing out.

Lots of good agency moments in here, and complications on the romantic side of things (which, much to my chagrin, is a large part of why I'm enjoying these books). And some interesting moral quandaries thrown into the mix. I still think that the dark nature of some of the material contrasts in the extreme with the lighthearted tone of the novels, but I'm not sure it is a bad thing. Kind of like a new taste in the kitchen that just happens to be different from my tried and true method of doing something.

Sookie has been hired by the Queen of Louisiana, Sophie-Anne, to come with her to a vampire conference. Sookie’s job is to read the minds of the humans, mostly humans working for other vampires. Sophie-Anne will be on trial, and Sookie can also vouch in her defense (though Sookie was already hired before there was a need for a trial). This might have been my favourite Sookie book so far. I read them so spread out, that I can’t say for sure, but I am rating it the highest of all of them. I enjoyed the little “love” triangle going on in this one, and I liked Sookie’s connection and interactions with Barry, another human with the same telepathic powers as Sookie.
