      The audio on this book is terrible. Not sure what happened the other titles are not like this. Very distracting. Otherwise the story was very good. My favorite of the series.

      Tricia Miles, owner of mystery bookshop Haven't Got a Clue in Stoneham, New Hampshire, is trying to wait patiently for the insurance company's decision about the payout for the fire that has closed her business and left her homeless. In the meantime she is working for the Chamber of Commerce, her sister is the President, and living in an apartment in the building. One of her duties is working with the Historical Society in particular, Pete Renquist. While walking the dog, they discover Pete severely injured (he later dies). Other Society workers are also attacked so Tricia sets to sleuthing to find the culprit. At the same time, Tricia and her sister are trying to find out who keeps taking the flowers out of the hanging baskets on Main Street. Could the flower thief and attacks be connected?This is a fun series and the characters just keep getting better and better.

      This series has veered far from the bookseller flavored mystery in which it began. I personally started reading it because I find biblo-mysteries interesting and gave the last book in this series marks off because of it. This one has no book selling, little reading and hardly a mention of books but it had an interesting plot. 3 1/2 stars.

      This series never disappoints and I think it's definitely one of my favorites of the entire series.

      The main character of the series is Tricia Miles and her older sister Angelica. Tricia is the mystery bookstore owner and amateur sleuth. In other words, for those of us that began our love of mysteries with amateur sleuth Nancy Drew, Tricia can easily be pictured as either Nancy Drew's older sister or the natural progression of Nancy's life complete with being a bookstore owner since Nancy introduced so many of us to the 'world' of reading as we tried to unravel the clues of each mystery.

      In Booktown Mystery 9, Tricia's still waiting for her insurance check after a terrible fire that destroyed her beloved bookshop of Haven't Got a Clue and her upstairs apartment in Stoneham, New Hampshire. While she's waiting for the insurance company, Tricia puts her time to good use helping at the Chamber of Commerce which is also giving her temporary residence as well as putting her in the perfect position to solve some mysteries around town.

      Most of all, this novel provides a beautiful expression of how some people come into our lives as acquaintances and coworkers to become the best of friends and over time dearly loved family.

      This book is #9 in the series and part of my review mentions the other books, if you have not read the others in the series you may not want to read the rest of the review. Also if you haven't read the others I strongly recommend that you read the book in order because the author does reference the other books.

      In this book Trisha is living above the Chamber offices while waiting for her insurance agency to decide if they will, or how much they will pay for the fire damage from the last book. She's also working at the Chamber to give her self something to do. Because of the work she's doing she has worked with Pete Renquist, president of the Stoneham Historical Society and a bit of a player. Trisha goes out to walk Sarge, her sister's dog and comes across Pete in a gazebo (yes, the same gazebo from a previous story. Boy does Trisha have bad luck!) still alive but in serious medical trouble. Pete dies and the hospital and it's later determined that it is a suspicious death.

      While I don't mind giving away details from previous books in a series I hate giving away the end of the book I'm reviewing but I'm finding it really hard to say what I want to say about the ending of this book. I should say that I felt like I connected with Trisha at the end of this book - before I felt she was just too . . . uptight? too good for everyone? I know she's been trying to connect more but this is the first time I felt like she really did. I saw part of the end coming, it had to have happened sooner or later but saddened about the other. Now isn't that vague enough that you just have to read it to find out what I'm writing about? You should because the story is an entertaining, quick read - perfect for the summer.

      This is another of my favorite series. I just love this little town. The way the author writes it, I feel like I am right there. Especially with the shocking ending this book has. I felt shock, hope and then sadness right along with the characters.

      In this book we find out who the mysterious Nigela Ricita is. Tricia is extremely vulnerable as she waits for the insurance settlement to get started on re-opening her book store. She starts questioning her life and the direction it should go while she works as a volunteer for the Chamber. I got side tracked with that and the petal pinching business. I totally thought Earl Winkler was the culprit for every bad thing that happened. I was mostly wrong. So the ending snuck right up on me. I felt like I got hit by a bus. Not even the birth of Ginny and Antonio's baby or Russ and Nikki's made up for that sad ending.

      This is one series that seems to effortlessly maintain a high standard and to give a very good mystery. Tricia is volunteering at the Stoneham Chamber of Commerce, helping out her sister, Angelica, while waiting for the insurance settlement on her mystery bookstore.When Tricia stumbles over one of the local Chamber members in the local park, she is convinced it is a heart attack but unfortunately it is murder, again.Plenty of suspects in this one, is it someone from Pete's past? Or someone local who didn't like the Stoneham Historical Society? As usual, I didn't tumble to the killer until Barrett wanted me to know who s/he was. The motive was also a shock and showed a fairly twisted mind. There is a very sad twist at then end of this book, be prepared.I'll keep reading this series as long as she is willing to keep writing them.

Taking Sarge for his walk one morning, they discover a body by the gazebo. Another employee of the historical society is attacked and Tricia and Angelica start investigating against the orders of Captain Baker.

      I have followed the Booktown Mysteries since the very first book. (Being a reviewer, I sometimes start well into the middle of a series). In my recent review of book 8, BOOK CLUBBED, I declared it to be the best in the Booktown series. It was best. That was before A FATAL CHAPTER blew it out of the water! The action started almost immediately and only slowed long enough for me to catch a breath before it was back to the edge of my recliner seat reading.After nine books, the characters in this series feel like old friends, and some them old enemies. ;-). In A FATAL CHAPTER author Lorna Barrett really took all of them and me on an emotional rollercoaster ride. Without giving spoilers let me just say…things have changed for many of the regular characters. Big things. When reading the exciting, action packed reveal, my mouth was literally handing open. Fans of this series are truly in for a great read!And remember to keeping reading once the story is done so you don’t miss out on the six delicious recipes at the back of the book!
