About this audiobook
Holed up in Las Vegas after the tumultuous Battle of New Orleans, Dave is enjoying the VIP perks afforded a champion monster-slayer. He may be a superhero of swag and the toast of the town, but if some fire-breathing dragons have their way, odds are everyone will soon be toast. As the hordes from the UnderRealms regroup for their next attack, Dave parties with celebrities, lunches with A-listers, and gets his ass lawyered up-because his hellacious ex is looking for a piece of that sweet, sweet action. It's all good, until new monsters roll in, looking to parley with "the Dave." WTF, monsters. Do you think the Dave can't spot a trap before he falls into it? And when things go to hell at warp 10, a suit from a shadow operation swoops in to offer Dave a deal he can't refuse. Now Dave's about to face off against an opponent who makes battling bloodthirsty behemoths look like child's play-a ravishing Russian spy with a few superpowers of her own.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Just like the 1st book in the trilogy, I originally borrowed this from the library. I liked it so much that I also purchased it from audible.com.au.This book continues on from book 1, Emergence. Dave Hooper continues to be someone who I loved to hate. I found his self centred attitude for most of the time very annoying, but it goes with the story line and the character that was built on in book 1. This story continues with Dave and the US military fighting the monsters. It is another action packed fighting gory adventure.Sean Mangan, the narrator, continues to do a great job, giving depth and meaning to Dave's character and the other characters in the story. It is very easy to disern the different characters and makes following the story line easy and enjoyable. To fully appreciate this story, you must first listen to and/or read the first book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Some people don't handle being a new super hero well...that would be Dave. As he parties in Vegas the Hunn continue to invade earth and on top of it Dave isn't alone. A good read. Better then the first book.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The second novel to feature rig engineer turned superhero monster slayer Dave Cooper, Resistance is another darkly funny, action packed fantasy adventure from Australian author John Birmingham.Dave is enjoying his celebrity, in a typical Dave-like manner, after the defeat of the Hunn but the breach in New Orleans was just the start and now the Hunn are boiling up from the underworld realm all over the globe, eager to reclaim their dominion. There is no getting away from the fact that Dave is a dick, and his basic nature is unchanged despite becoming a superhero. In Resistance he is confronted with his new responsibilities as the only man able to translate the intentions of the Hunn but he manages to alienate almost everyone when he makes the wrong choices.Like Emergence, Resistance is a fast paced, entertaining read, hilarious, action - packed and unfailingly politically incorrect.I'm looking forward to Dave's final adventure in Ascendance
