About this audiobook

The fourth volume in the brilliant Dark Tower Series is “splendidly tense…rip-roaring” (Publishers Weekly)—a #1 national bestseller about an epic quest to save the universe.

In Wizard and Glass, Stephen King is “at his most ebullient…sweeping readers up in…swells of passion” (Publishers Weekly) as Roland the Gunslinger, Eddie, Susannah, and Jake survive Blaine the Mono’s final crash, only to find themselves stranded in an alternate version of Topeka, Kansas, that has been ravaged by the superflu virus. While following the deserted I-70 toward a distant glass palace, Roland recounts his tragic story about a seaside town called Hambry, where he fell in love with a girl named Susan Delgado, and where he and his old tet-mates Alain and Cuthbert battled the forces of John Farson, the harrier who—with a little help from a seeing sphere called Maerlyn’s Grapefruit—ignited Mid-World’s final war.

Filled with “blazing action” (Booklist), the fourth installment in the Dark Tower Series “whets the appetite for more” (Bangor Daily News). Wizard and Glass is a thrilling read from “the reigning King of American popular literature” (Los Angeles Daily News).

I read the 1st 3 books in 10th grade. Restarted from book 1 4 weeks ago. Just finsihed 4. Been waiting 30 year to know what happened. But reading isnt my thing. Audible books is a revelation. So happy yo finish the story. And am equally excited for mike Flanagan amazon show if it ever happens. The story needs justice after that awful movie a few years back. All though i wouldnt mind iris elba and matthew staying in the rolls. They were perfect choices for a rushed, mistold story. I have faith in Flanagan his shows dont disappoint. Just hope they make it 7 seaosons. 1 season a book. With at least 13 eps season like old times.

Not the book I expected, but my favorite of the series so far. It begins with a backtrack to the ending of book III and a fairly quick resolution to that predicament. Soon after, Roland the Gunslinger tells his backstory, where we remain for the majority of the book. We learn quite a bit about Roland's motivations and what makes him tick – it is not a happy story.

Narrator Frank Muller delivers another incredible performance.

Great book! It was good to get some flashback so we know why Roland is so determined to get to the Dark Tower.

This is the best of the dark tower and maybe all of King’s books. I just love it.

Thus far my favorite in the series. This time King takes us back to when Roland was a young man/gunslinger heading out on a pilgrimage with his two best friends. We meet his first love (perhaps his last) Susan. I thought this volume to be the best well-written.

It was fun and full of adventure. Young and in love Roland is interesting. It could have benefited from massive editing.

Love this story. I usually do not enjoy the stories revolving around Roland as much as the other characters in the series. This caught my attention much better than say when we follow Roland in the Gunslinger. The young love story was told exceptionally well and it gives a depth to Roland's character that I really appreciate.

The Dark Tower is shaping up to be quite the adventure (although certainly not for the faint of heart as there are quite a few disturbing scenes). Wizard and Glass is DARK - deep, deep dark, but there's beauty and love there as well. It's somewhat incredible to me how authors like King are able to build worlds and characters you fall in love with and then slowly bring destruction upon them.

The story within a story format of this installment took me a bit to get into, but once I did, I was enthralled with Roland's first ka-tet and the insight into how he came to be the man he is. Also, I really appreciated the cross over into the other worlds created by King. I have this burning desire to re-read The Stand after running into RF.

I can't believe I waited so many years to take this journey but I am so glad I did. I am relishing every moment spent in this world and experiencing it for the first time.

“Go then, there are other worlds than these.”

Wizard and Glass is a very long book but we do learn about the young life of Roland. We get answers to a lot of questions and it rounds out his character more. It is considered by many as the best book of The Dark Tower series. It tells us what happened to Cuthbert, Alain and Susan Delgado. They travel all the way through Mid-World into the beginning of End-World, the furthest they have traveled in any of the books so far. It is filled with shocking plot twists, stunning visual imagery and unforgettable characters. I'm now looking forward to reading the next book in the series, The Wolves of Calla. This series is recommend to those who like a good magical mix of fantasy and horror.

I truly don't understand all the animosity that some DT readers have towards this book. Sure, it breaks the pace of the "journey" to the Tower, but it comes at the right time. Not too soon, not too close to the end; its position as the 4th was perfect. Roland's past in Mejis was a delightful tale; Mejis & Gilead were delightful places; you get a better understanding of him and where he comes from. And the world of Mejis stands in stark contrast to where Roland finds himself now. This was the one book that could stand on its own, yet it does have its place in the series.

Due to a move there was a space of several months between the start and finish of listening to this audio, which is ironic considering King's afterward (in which he states that a vast period of time fell between writing elements of this novel).

I really enjoyed this instalment of the dark tower, probably because it was a break from the main characters and also provides a deeper background for the Gunslinger. The story is gripping, despite parts being a little predictable.
