About this audiobook

The second volume in Stephen King’s #1 bestselling Dark Tower Series, The Drawing of the Three is an “epic in the making” (Kirkus Reviews) about a savage struggle against underworld evil and otherworldly enemies.

“Stephen King is a master at creating living, breathing, believable characters,” hails The Baltimore Sun. Beginning just less than seven hours after The Gunslinger ends, in the second installment to the thrilling Dark Tower Series, Roland encounters three mysterious doorways on a deserted beach along the Western Sea. Each one enters into a different person’s life in New York—here, he joins forces with the defiant young Eddie Dean, and with the beautiful, brilliant, and brave Odetta Holmes, to save the Dark Tower.

“This quest is one of King’s best…it communicates on a genuine, human level…but is rich in symbolism and allegory” (Columbus Sunday Dispatch). It is a science fiction odyssey that is unlike any tale that Stephen King has ever written.

Fantastic storytelling. The audiobook narration is really good. This book had me laughing out loud so many times and also cringing at the nastiness of certain scenes. I really started feeling for the characters as the story progressed. I definitely want to listen to the third volume in the series.

Wow! I liked The Gunslinger, but this one had me more invested by leaps and bounds. Eddie Dean is an amazing character and his banter really made it a pleasure to follow along. This installment definitely has me super invested and ready to plow on through the rest of the series.

When I was starting The Dark Tower, I read on the internet that The Drawing of The Three is where it really picks up. I agree, I liked The Gunslinger, and it’s a really good start to the series. But book two was fantastic, and it made me hooked on the world-building and the history of the world after it moved on. It also gave me an insight on Roland, and his feelings that weren’t really talked about in book one. It made me sympathize more with him, made him feel human. Makes me excited to read the rest.

I’ll also complement the narrator, he really set the tone of the book with his voice at the right moments, and made me laugh as well.

This is my personal favorite of the Dark Tower series and is narrated by the legendary Frank Muller. What else can I say?

If the first was a well written garbled mess, this one was a concise mess. It is a complicated story that is even harder to comment on, so I will only tell you for whom would enjoy this. People who enjoy time travel, alternate history, or even Westerns, may enjoy this. If you like all three you will certainly enjoy it.
The narrator is amazing, but when this was recorded there seems to be a very small amount of noise. It's not enough to notice, but you will notice it if you suddenly stop the book. Everything considered, I enjoyed it enough to rate and review it.

Going into the Dark Tower series, I had no (and still don't have any) idea what the series was about or what it contained. I absolutely loved The Gunslinger and the mystery that was left around it. I did not expect this book to go into the direction that it did and I can say I don't know what to expect from here on out on my Dark Tower journey. This book is full of action and honestly a really fun, yet intense, experience. I can't wait to see where the road goes from here.

When I was in my teen years I have read the first books in this series and I wasn’t enamoured. I might be too young (I was probably about 13 back then) or this kind of story is just not my thing. But for all these years I was thinking about giving another chance to this series with so many positive reviews out there. But I was never in a right mood. Finally, two challenges pushed me to do it.

I admit that I’m still not a fan of this series. What can I say, I just don’t like those deep, deep books full of symbolism and innumerable layers. I read for pleasure and entertainment and I rarely search for any deeper meaning in my books. I completely understand why some people find this series so alluring. As for me, I don’t think I will ever be a fan of this kind of stories.

Still, I pretty like this book. And even I am amazed to what extent. I expected a lengthy struggle and instead it was a rather fast read. What’s more I enjoyed the plot and characters. I seriously hope they don’t die in some mindless manner at the very beginning of the next book.

And yes, to my utter surprise, I’m going to read the next book in this series. Maybe not right here and now, but I will do it for sure one of these days. And this time I won’t wait more than 15 years to do so. This book is still out of my comfort zone, but I’m doing exceptions from time to time. This may be one of those.

Better than book 1; there are more characters, which creates some interest.

I rate this book 3.5/5 stars. I though there were parts that dragged a bit, but as always, King has a knack for literally getting inside the minds of his characters and that makes this book a fun ride. I really enjoyed how the stories of the different characters were brought together by the end of the story, and it makes me want to continue reading this series in the near future.

As King himself admits, this is not the usual style of fiction he writes, but I like it very much. It has fantasy elements, but it is more of a western style of main character and the fantasy feels a bit more science fiction like at this point.

    Anyway, good stuff.
