About this audiobook
The deeper the water, the darker the secrets…
There were so many times I thought about telling you the truth, Eva. What stopped me was always the same thing…
When Eva’s husband Jackson tragically drowns, she longs to meet his estranged family. The journey takes her to Jackson’s brother’s doorstep on a remote Tasmanian island. As strange details about her husband’s past begin to emerge, memories of the man she married start slipping through her fingers like sand, as everything she ever knew and loved about him is thrown into question. Now she’s no longer sure whether it was Jackson she fell in love with – or someone else entirely…
The truth is, it was all a lie . . .

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This book is absolutely not a kind of genre I would choose. Scribd says it's "suspense", but it's a melodrama, so I am not unbiased when rating. But it kept me listening until the end, so that's worth something.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5EPIC. 5 stars. YOU ARE A QUEEN, LUCY CLARKE ?
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I received this book as a Goodreads Giveaway, but due to the number of books I had on hold at the library, I put off reading it. I picked it up 2 days ago and am glad I did. It was a wonderful story.
Eva, finally meets a man and falls in love almost instantly. After a short courtship, they move in together and get married. After only 8 months, Jackson drowns and leaves Eva lost. She heads to Tasmania to meet his family hoping to feel closer to him. What she does not expect is that she develops feelings for his brother. An emotional ride with a surprising ending. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I got this book from Goodreads in return for an honest review.
It tells the story of Eva who is recently married to Jackson. Tragically he is swept out to sea while fishing and in an effort to help her understand him more she decides to travel to Tasmania where Jackson is from. She meets his father Dirk and brother Saul and it soon becomes clear that things are not all what she thought.
I really enjoyed this book which has so many twists and turns that at times it is hard to keep up. The final twist I had worked out but that didn't spoil the book at all.
The scenes of the free-diving were particularly beautiful and as this is not something I have experience of was very informative.
A new author that I will look out for - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I'm easily pulled in when I like the way an author writes--and this one did just that. Good story from beginning to end.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Eva and Jackson were married a short time when Jackson went fishing on a wintery morning and was washed into the sea. There was a search but his body was not recovered. After a period of mourning, Eva decides to travel to Tasmania to see Jackson's family. She wants to learn more about him and maybe mourn together.Jackson's father is cold to her approach and tells her it's better that she leave. Determined to learn more she goes to Jackson's brother, Saul.Saul is a maring biologist and after speaking to him, she learns that the life and history Jackson told her about himself was actually that of Saul. She's devastated that her marriage and love was based on lies. She gets to know Saul and they go freediving together and she enjoys the thrill of the dive and the sea. Eventually she and Saul form a relationship. There are a number of major surprises and plot twists that were well done and very surprising.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Eva is recently married when her husband dies while fishing. Grieving, she decides to visit his family in Australia and hopefully they could all grieve together. Instead she is not welcome and soon finds out that her husband Jackson was living a big lie and their marriage was not what she thought.A slow moving story of love and betrayal with some mystery added. It was an interesting but not fulfilling book for me. I know others enjoyed it immensely but I found it drawn out and I couldn’t get into the characters.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved how this novel pulled me in, from the beginning to the end. I had to turn the page, read a little further, and know the answers! The setting of this book is first England, at the ragged coast, where you can feel the cold, and smell the freezing spray. Then a bit more exotic, we travel to Tasmania, where we do see the Dragon Horse Fish, which I’ve never heard of, but no Devils!I can’t imagine all of the things that Eva, the main character in this story goes through, and we literally walk in her shoes. We travel on the plane and are there with her first meeting with Jackson, we are there with the frantic search of the coast, hoping beyond hope for his survival. Never expecting all that is about to come, and never remembering the old saying about deceiving and the tangled web we weave. We go with Eva as she does her first and subsequent free dives, you’ll feel the water flowing by your body, and your breath about to explode, as it craves air. I could almost feel the peace she felt and she was down there in that magic world. Above on the land were all the hurts and unraveling secrets, dealing with death, and finding out more and more. How could you be so deceived? Easily? As you go through this book you are not going to want to put it down, and when it ended, I still wanted more.I received this book from the Publisher Touchstone Books, and was not required to give a positive review.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I enjoyed this author's first book, Swimming at Night. So of course, I had to check out Mrs. Clarke's next book. She does not disappoint with her latest book. Instantly, I fell for Eva, Jackson, and Saul. Yes, even Jackson. HIs and Eva's story as they intermingled into one another was memorizing. I really loved how the author lended Jackson's voice by him narratoring his story and explaining why he lied like he did. While I saw the ending coming, I was happy with it. It ended on as strong a note as this story started. Eva stayed strong throughout the whole story. Well most of the time but even when she broke down, it was because she was human and had a good reason. Saul could have been so mean towards Eva but he was a sweetheart. The chemistry they shared was a forever one. I pretty much read this book in two days. Now I am sorry that I have to wait to read the next book by Mrs. Clarke. A Single Breath is a heart-felt, must read!
