About this audiobook

The shocking first true account from one of the young girls who lived through and survived the Rotherham sex abuse scandal.

In the summer of 2014, the Rotherham sex abuse scandal sent shockwaves through the nation. A report revealed that, since the 1990s, up to 1,400 young girls in the town had been regularly abused by sex gangs, predominantly comprised of Pakistani men. As the media descended on the small Yorkshire town, Sarah Wilson watched with horror and relief as her voice was finally heard after years of abuse.

Sarah was just eleven years old when she was befriended by a group of older men. Bullied at school, naive and vulnerable, the gifts and attention they lavished on her were what she craved, she just wanted to belong. But soon she was hooked on alcohol and drugs, and then they owned her. She was just twelve years old when she was bundled into a car by a man in his thirties and forced to have sex with him. Soon, the gang were driving her to places where she was raped by scores of men.

Falling through the system, from social services to school, no-one was able to help her. She ‘escaped’ when she became too old for the men at nearly sixteen.

Finally a victim of the Rotherham scandal tells her story in the hope that other young girls will not fall prey to the same evil that she endured.

Unbelievable! I am mortified by the number of men that prey or preyed on children in such a small area, and the appalling spectators that allowed it to happen. Every single one of those men should be force to experience the same treatment and suffering they were inflicting on all those poor children. I wonder if they would still think what they did was so funny afterwards? One has to wonder how so many men in the same area could all possess the same poor character that lacks integrity, honour and courage.
If I discovered I was friends with a pedophile, I wouldn’t join in and start raping children, I’d report them to the police, and failing that, I’d stop them myself.
Sarah Wilson is stronger than all of those pathetic and weak bullies combined. Bless all of you who endured violence and suffering at the hands of those poor excuses of men. A real man would have protected you, not hurt you. I hope you are all safe and loved.

No matter how hard I tried not to read this book because of it’s horrific description of events, I just couldn’t help. The author’s portrayal of sad truth is a reminder how societal wickedness exist in the darkest and sometimes in a broad day light.
    God bless !

It's a book every person should read and to understand the severity of the sexual grooming and exploitation of children in the western world is becoming so common place that the people we elect to represent our communities blindly don't give a shit. Unbelievable and such a well written account of this tragedy upon many families and children.

I mean, its not that i loved the story, but I liked the fact that she shared something so raw and real that people like to ignore that is part of our reality.

What an amazing story of a girl who overcame all the abuse she went through to inform others and get her story out to the public. While at times hard to read, this book was extremely eye opening and Sarah is truly a survivor!

What a true survivor you are you have gone through the most unimaginable horror of abuse to become a voice for and support for other survivours. I lived in the same areas as you at a similar time and my father worked in Fenham for a lot of Pakistani family's. I only ever experienced the hospitality and kindness of the family's he worked for and I'm glad that you haven't let your experiences make you racist which no one could have blamed you for. I hope you have a very happy and contented life with your children you deserve it. Keep strong. Lots of love Ruth Walton ❤. Xx
