About this audiobook

The Vanishing Year is a stunner. A perfectly compulsive read that's impossible to put down.” –Mary Kubica

“A chilling, powerful tale of nerve-shattering suspense.” –Heather Gudenkauf

Nominated for "Best Mystery & Thriller" by Goodreads Choice Awards 2016

Zoe Whittaker is living a charmed life. She is the beautiful young wife to handsome, charming Wall Street tycoon Henry Whittaker. She is a member of Manhattan’s social elite. She is on the board of one of the city’s most prestigious philanthropic organizations. She has a perfect Tribeca penthouse in the city and a gorgeous lake house in the country. The finest wine, the most up-to-date fashion, and the most luxurious vacations are all at her fingertips.

What no one knows is that five years ago, Zoe’s life was in danger. Back then, Zoe wasn’t Zoe at all. Now her secrets are coming back to haunt her.

As the past and present collide, Zoe must decide who she can trust before she—whoever she is—vanishes completely.

A “dark, twisty, edge-of-your-seat suspense” (Karen Robards), The Vanishing Year combines the classic sophistication of Ruth Rendell and A.S.A. Harrison with the thoroughly modern flair of Jessica Knoll. Told from the point-of-view of a heroine who is as relatable as she is enigmatic, The Vanishing Year is an unforgettable new novel by a rising star of the genre.

Another book where the author must think readers are dense because the protagonist is so bad at figuring things out - she can't see what is so blatantly obvious. I typically figure things out before the characters so that alone is not enough to make me rate this so low. The pacing of this book is not well done at all. We spend 3/4 waiting for something, dear God anything, to happen and then it's over in a flash. So much of what goes on has no point at all when it would have been much more interesting to learn more about some of the major characters. Sadly, only Zoey comes even close to being a 3 dimensional person, the rest of the characters are flat and we know very little about them. Certainly not enough to care what happens to them but fortunately nothing does for most of the book. You'd think something would happen in a book that's a "thriller" where they're running around Manhattan. It's sad because the premise is good, this could have been a much better book than it is. It's one of those books that makes me wonder, if it's so tough to get a book published, how did this one make it onto the shelves. I'm sorry I wasted a credit on it.

I usually don't write a review, but this was one of the BEST audiobooks I have listened to in a long time, and I listed to them daily. It was a fresh story and fresh plot, not one that has been retold a million times. It was brilliantly written. If you like a good story, with some suspense, give it a shot!

It's an interesting one time listen overall. The suspense is good but not really unexpected. I liked the last 3 or 4 hrs more that the first part. The first part was a little slow for my taste.

Narration is really annoying , please stop with the weird man voice. I can’t finish this audio book, but it might be worth reading just to see what happens…or not…

So much heart, yet gritty, and suspenseful. Loved the details of about the main characters. They all came to vivid life. And the narrator was fantastic. Thumbs up to Madeleine Maby.

Predictable mystery. Half way through the book one can guess the ending. The beginning of the book was so slow.

Narration was excellent! Very descriptive and emotional, made even the small things come alive. I thought I had guessed what happened but took me awhile to figure out the real story and I still hadn’t entirely by the end. Very sexy too! Will read more by this author.
