- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I wasn’t sure what could benefit me from this book when I started to listen to it, but I have now read this book three times—whilst recommending it to every person I know—because each read has given me more clarity and peace with the relationship (or lack thereof) that I had with my parents. I think every person can take something away from this book. For me, it really gave me a lense to see my mother clearly for who she is whilst also acknowledging the work I had to do myself. I will be forever grateful for this book.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very eye opening. I feel noticed in a world that I once viewed as extremely lonely. For those of which value daily growth, this book puts a lot of childhood trauma into perspective and answers the question ‘Why?’. I grew up being gaslit about my feelings/emotions in response to family emotional and physical abuse. I’ve come to a point in my life where I am willing to learn and cope with the trauma for better life tomorrow. This is a good first step for beginners.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was a really hard book to listen to, because it was like I was being acknowledged and heard for the first time. It still hurts in a great way, because now I have some steps to reclaim myself from my childhood of having two emotionally immature parents. If you're conaider reading know that it will probably be hard for you as well, but you will also feel validated, heard, and empowered by what you learn. Good luck. ?

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5As I listened to this book, it spoke of my childhood 100%. It was very tough growing up with emotionally immature parents and I’m glad to know that there’s something I can do as an adult to improve on my emotional maturity in order to attract other emotionally mature individuals. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was a great book! I’m going to listen to it again tomorrow and again until I’m emotional mature. I learned a lot about myself and some of my relationships. Definitely apply this info to everyone you meet not just your parents. I’m considering ending my current situation with my babe because I realize that he’s very much so like my mother. I knew someone was off but I couldn’t figure it out & honestly he’s the reason I realized I was reacting out of childhood trauma:( but I’m thankful for that, now I will be able to grow.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Oh man, this book is so good. So healing. I found it after long long long years of suffering from an absence of being seen, heard and appreciated by my family. I didn't understand why I was more curious about their personalities and emotions (& psychology in general!) than they were of mine or theirs. This book has helped me ALOT in understanding my lonely childhood and unmet emotional needs. If you're confused about the neglect and lack of emotional intimacy between you and your parents. If you are tired of feeling like your parents emotions are more important than yours. If you're tired of of blaming your parents for being f#cked up, this book is for you. I'm just so happy I found it. I now know that emotional literacy is the way to go. I now have way more understanding of the humans I call my parents. Ultimately I want to love them way more, understand myself more and be more understanding of the world around me. Healthy af book. 100% recommend for those who have felt invisible, who want to learn and grow and be more joyful.
Also, I just read other people's reviews and I'm so happy others too are feeling validated! Aw, yay. So so so wonderful.1 person found this helpful

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Really good for post-soviet children. It makes us see the various broken mental gymnastics we do to please others and especially our parents, even those, who live rent free in our heads and tax us for being there. I would, however recommend doing this in addition to psychotherapy.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Life changing knowledge! I am so thankful to the author. This book brought understanding to so much confusion in my upbringing that I’d never thought would have an explanation. It’s a whole lot more insightful than my personal experiences with therapy.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5My wife had an alcoholic mother and a father who has NPD so listening to this book was absolutely mind blowing. It was like it was written about them in fine detail. Be a good parent, be emotionally available and empathetic for your children. This book explains why doing the opposite is so damaging.
