About this audiobook

Can you ever really know someone?

When Deborah, an unpopular seventeen-year-old, meets the charming and handsome Larry, he sweeps her off her feet. The trouble is, Larry has a secret.

Then a series of grisly murders casts a shadow over everything.

As Deborah's world starts to fall apart, she begins to suspect the man she loves of a terrible betrayal. And to keep their marriage alive, sacrifices must be made.

The Optician's Wife is a compelling psychological thriller that unpicks what goes on behind closed doors and reminds us that sometimes the worst crimes can take place closer to home than you think.

It was a disgusting book that I didn’t put down just because of a promise of an interesting plot twist, but it wasn’t worth it. As someone already said there is not one likeable character, the book is pretty predictable and full of dialogs that go in unlikely direction.

Wow! It's not often a book surprises me anymore. For a while listening to this book, I was thinking, "It's ok" but the farther I got the better and the ending was amazing!

Simplistic writing style- too reliant on cliches. This does fit the character but also makes the text dull

Sadly, a dreadful, depressing and unimaginative book. Not a single likeable, relatable character and the narrator had a maddening voice.

This book was hard to get through because you hate the main character! She's an awful person who at first you kind of feel sorry for and then just disgusts you. Such a depressing story.

This book is f***** up. I'm rarely surprised by a crime or thriller novel but wow. It's good I didn't see the twist coming until right before it happened, it is messed up though. 10/10!

This book was extremely slow. You really don't know what happened until 30 minutes before it ends, and there's still a bit that's unanswered. I thought about not finishing so many times, but I kept going because I'd invested so much time already and I knew it would end at some point with some answers.

This was the most different book I have ever listened to. It was so violent yet I could not stop listening. The amount of years from beginning to end, the changing in feelings between family members. Everything intrigued me.

I wanted to like this novel, I really did.
I just finished ranting to my husband about it, so I’ll carry on ranting here.
First off, the narrator was brilliant. I thought she did a superb job, despite the material.
There was no *twist*. I detest a mystery I have figured out after (or during, as the case may be), the first murder. I kept listening because I wanted to be wrong. I wasn’t.
All of the adult characters are horrible people. You’ll have no one to cheer for, aside from the children. There are no character arcs, what you see is what you get.
The ending with the reveal, is just sloppy writing.
The author has potential, but she could definitely benefit from better pre-readers.
I’m a reader, and not a writer. I would never even attempt to write, but again I am an avid reader. I have expectations when I read, and they definitely were not met in this one.
I repeat, potential...it just fell flat here.

I wanted to like this especially after reading reviews from others. I despised nearly every character in the book. The rest I pitied. That made it really difficult to get into it. I also wasn't very surprised by the twist, suspecting it from the first murder. The only thing that saved it was the pacing and the writing style. It was easy to follow and not unnecessarily complex. The other redeeming quality was that its different from others in the genre. It did make me want to get to the last chapter for the tie up.

Wake me up half way through when the story starts. Nope, because once this book is over you realize it is a short story (last chapter) forced into novel length. Characters were not interesting, story was non existent and ending makes no sense when you think about it.
Only Positive: Audiobook has good narrator, if only she was given the opportunity to read better material.

One word...SICK! If graphic perverse acts of murder isn’t your thing, then don’t waste your precious time with this book.

I tried very hard to want to finish this book but gave yo at chapter 24. There wasn't even 1 likeable character in the book and I realised that I didn't care enough about them to know what happens to them

This book is really disturbing. It’s like watching a car wreck. Horrible characters with no redemption at the end. Not sure why I kept listening. Definitely or my cup of tea.

It was an interesting book, but I could not warm to any of the characters except maybe Owen. Who was a minor character. I felt kind of grossed out when I finished it.

Great audio book. Narrator did a great job. One of the few times the twist has surprised me. I will definitely look for more by this author. I was kept interested from the beginning and found myself trying to find alone time to hear more.
