      This suspenseful and gripping cop thriller featuring Quincy and Rainie—both ex-FBI profilers—centers around the meaning of family. After Telly and his younger sister, Sharlah, suffer severe childhood trauma, they are separated and placed into foster care. Years later, when both kids have seemingly found their forever homes and a shot at happiness, violence brings them back together again. Full of action and creative plot twists, I devoured every page of this action-packed story.

      I haven't read the other books within the series. I thought it was a stand alone book which in my opinion it could of been. That being said I can't compare this book to those in the series. But as a stand-alone, I loved it. I loved how you could tell the struggles the kids went/were going through.. and although I had some idea of where the story was headed, it took everything in me not to jump to the end to see what happened haha

      Quincy and Rainie are back, and they are in the process of adopting their thirteen-year-old foster daughter, Sharlah May Nash. Sharla has had a hard childhood. Her parents drank and took drugs. She was raised by her older brother, Telly Ray. He himself was only four when she was born. Not only has he made sure she was fed, but Telly had also saved their lives by beating their father to death with a baseball bat. They have been apart for eight years living through the foster system. Now, finally, Sharlah may get her forever family. A family that has seen the dark side of the world and knows where Sharlah's fears lay.

      On Sharlah's first day of swimming camp, all hell breaks loose. The EZ Mart has a double murder with the suspect now on the run. Quincy is called in by the local police to profile the killer to get his identity. As the clues are revealed and more bodies pile up, it seems like Telly may be the spree killer. Quincy and Rainie must try and figure out what set Telly off after eight years, and if Sharlah is in danger. Telly and Sharlah Nash both "know the biggest fear can be right behind you".

      Wow, this novel started off with a bang! I was sucked in right away. We get the point of view of both Sharla and Telly from the night eight years ago and the present day. I liked this because we got a better sense of the characters and how they evolved. Yet, Gardner reveals things slowly at a time, so that the mystery unravels as we find out more about that night and how it led them to this. We also see how Quincy and Rainie are trying to solve this case and deal with being parents. This is not a linear case but has so many aspects to it. I think if it was revealed from one character's point of view we would almost not believe the ending. I think the way Gardner presented this story worked great. It's the kind of suspense thriller novel I thrive on. I highly recommend this book to all those who love a good mystery filled with suspenseful moments.

      You don't have to read the other Quincy and Rainie novels to like this book, but I think all the background that we learn in those novels enriches the experience. Plus, I am a huge stickler for reading books in order.

      Right Behind You by Lisa Gardner is an enthralling mystery about a police hunt for a suspected spree killer. Although this latest release is the seventh installment in the Quincy & Rainie series, it can be read as a standalone.

      Following the discovery of two murder victims at a local convenience store/gas station, Sheriff Shelly Atkins calls on retired FBI Profiler Pierce Quincy to help put together a profile of the suspected killer. Quincy is stunned to learn the identity of the suspect is his soon to adopted foster daughter Sharlah's seventeen year old brother Telly Ray Nash. After learning that Telly's foster parents, Frank and Sandra Duvall, have also been murdered, Quincy fears Sharlah might become his next victim. With a massive manhunt for Telly underway, Quincy, Rainie and Sheriff Atkins try to piece together a possible motive for Telly's apparent rampage. Why would Telly want to murder his foster parents? What reason could he have for gunning down two apparent strangers? And the biggest question of all: can they capture Telly before he harms Sharlah?

      Eight years earlier, Telly killed his drunk and abusive father during a violent attack in which both Telly and Sharlah feared for their lives. With their mother also dead, Telly and Sharlah became wards of the state and they were sent to live with different foster families. Now, after bouncing from one bad home to another, both Sharlah and Telly are living with good families who care about them. Although she has been unable to verbalize her feelings, Sharlah is happy that Quincy and Rainie are adopting her.       Initially, Sheriff Atkins and Quincy's suspect that Telly's killing spree has something to do with his and Sharlah's past. However, the deeper they dig into Telly's life with the Duvall's the less certain they are that his troubled childhood has anything to do with the current crimes. A few incongruous details turn the investigation in a completely new direction but Telly remains the focus of their investigation. As the manhunt for Telly continues, will newly discovered information prove he is innocent?

      With fiendishly clever twists and turns, Right Behind You is a spellbinding police procedural that fans of the genre are going to absolutely LOVE. The storyline is intriguing with plenty of suspense as the chapters alternate between different perspectives including enlightening chapters from both Telly and Sharlah's points of view. The investigation moves at a fever pitch as Sheriff Atkins and Quincy feverishly follow every new lead while at the same time, the manhunt for Telly adds increased urgency to the storyline. Lisa Gardner brings the novel to a very dramatic and quite shocking conclusion with a plot twist that is impossible to predict. An absolutely outstanding mystery that I highly recommend to old and new fans of the Quincy & Rainie series.

      In Lisa Gardner's next thriller following her runaway New York Times bestseller Find Her -- Right Behind You sees the return of (now retired) FBI Profiler Pierce Quincy and his wife Rainie Conner who have now adopted Sharlah. Several years ago her older brother Telly Ray Nash killed their drunken father to protect them.

      But when it appears that Telly has killed again, this time it can't be for her protection, can it? Especially as it is later discovered he's also killed his foster parents.

      This story is a lot slower than other Lisa Gardner books. I still enjoyed it, but as the story unravelled I found myself more drawn to the relationships of families involved - the abuse that went on - the secrets and lies. It's lik e the author has gone from fast-paced FBI police procedural crime novel to a character driven story. Nothing wrong with that, it's just not what I expected.

      Rainie and Quincy still make a great couple, the writing style is enjoyable and easy to read. It may be light on the FBI profile and police procedural aspects, but Right Behind You still made for a great read because the characters were so endearing, and quite often physically and emotionally vulnerable.

      I'm interested to see what Lisa Gardner's next book (comes out Feb. 19 2019) titled NEVER TELL, is going to be like. It apparently features Detective D.D. Warren joining forces with vigilante Flora Dane to investigate the murder of known associate of Flora's infamous kidnapper.

      There are gaps between books when I pick one up by this author. Yet, after reading this book, I will be making a bigger effort to not let this happen. While this is book seven in this series, I had no problems jumping right into this book with the characters. Quincy and Rainie made a good duo. They both kind of shined in this book. I only say this because I felt that Cal Noonan did play a big lead part. He was important in helping to solve the case. Yet, to be honest, it was Sharlah that helped to bring her brother in. Yes, this is a suspense novel but it is more character driven. Thus why it was great that the characters were so engaging. Thus because I enjoyed the characters so much, I had no problems reading this book and staying engaged until the last page. If you are an established fan or a new reader of Lisa Gardner, you will like this book a lot.

      Another great DD Warren classic from Lisa Gardner. Four stars not five on this one, because my pathos for the main characters, excluding DD, was not up to usual emotional standards. Also, I felt let down by the ending, feeling as if the author went the safe route in order to extend the life of a solid character into possible sequels rather than shift her into villain status. Definitely a worthwhile read.

      I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my opinion of the book or my review itself.Some might find it ironic that Sharlah is on the cusp of being adopted by two people involved in law enforcement. After all, eight years ago her older brother, Telly, killed their drunk and abusive father with a baseball bat. While he did it to save Sharlah's life, they haven't seen each other since the incident.But when a spree shooter seemingly goes on a rampage, and video footage captures Telly on the scene with a gun. Sharlah must face her past, face her brother, and decide what their future holds.This book had a lot of suspense. Flashbacks to eight years ago kept me wondering what had truly happened that night and what it meant about Telly and Sharlah. The search for Telly in the present was well-plotted out as well, involving everyone from trackers to profilers, which also kept the suspense up. There was one particular twist near the end that, even though it was small, had me gasping out loud with how well Gardner had tricked me.I also really liked the relationship between Sharlah and her soon to be adoptive parents Quincy and Rainie. While these are reoccurring characters in a series I had not previously read, I still felt very invested in them and their story.The ending got a little confusing for me. It felt like Gardner had all these ideas for directions the story could go and put them all in. I appreciated that she wanted to take the idea of a "family drama" and really run with it in a unique direction, but the last third of the book could get hard to follow.This is a gripping read that will keep you in suspense. I wish the ending was a bit stronger and a bit clearer, but this was still a book I couldn't put down.

      This really is very good. Quincy and Rainie's foster-daughter Sharlah hasn't seen her brother Telly for eight years, since he killed their abusive parents in self-defence. It emerges that he is being fostered himself by a nearby couple, when they are found murdered in their bed. Told from the perspectives of various law enforcement personnel and the first person voices of Sharlah in the present and Telly in the past in flashbacks to the run up to the killings, the various narratives and voices blend well together. The twists and turns were exciting and logical and kept me guessing to the end. While I think this is the best crime novel I've read for a while, I'm deducting half a star for a few things that made no sense to me: SPOILERSHow exactly did the overseas bank account details work as a stalemate? Why didn't Sandra's father just move the money to a different account? Why, on his death, was Sandra suddenly able to move the money without exposing herself by proving herself to be the heir to it? How did the various baddies find out so much about Telly and Sharlah and their past?

      Profilers Pierce Quincy and Rainie Conner have fostered a troubled youngster, Sharlah, who is traumatised by a childhood in which her drunken father murdered her mother, only to be killed himself by Sharlah’s older brother Telly, aged 9. Telly, now 17, has gone on a killing spree, starting with his foster parents: it seems he is after Sharlah, but she has little memory of the night her parents died, and no clue as to what would trigger this murderous rage. A manhunt ensues, with all the usual drama. This is the 7th book featuring Quincy and Conner and, while it works well as a standalone, is sadly forgettable.

      This book starts out with a narrative by nine year old Telly Ray Nash, proclaiming “I once had a family”. He describes the abuse he and his baby sister, Sharlah, experienced before his father tried to kill them and Telly hit him over the head with a baseball bat. Telly is now seventeen and living with a foster family. Sharlah is now thirteen, has been fostered with various families, and is now about to be adopted by retired FBI profiler Pierce Quincy and his wife, Rainie Conner.

      When Sharlah finally sees her brother for the first time in eight years, it's because he's gazing into the camera of a convenience story, after killing two people inside. When investigators head over to Telly's foster home they discover dead bodies there, as well. Is Telly a spree killer? Quincy and Rainie work together with law enforcement to try to find and stop Telly, while trying to keep Sharlah in the dark about the murder investigation. The reader knows it's not going to be as straightforward as Quincy and Rainie hope for, especially after they find Telly's cellphone and recent pictures of Sharlah with a target drawn around her head.

      This was a very fast moving and interesting book. The main focus is on Telly and Sharlah and, in this case, Quincy and Rainie take more of a backseat in the story's narration. The stories the children tell of their past and how much they cared for each other are incredibly heartbreaking. I listened to the audio narrated by Luke Daniels and Teri Schnaubelt, who did an excellent job. It was nice to see two favorite characters back after almost ten years. I couldn't remember a thing about the main characters, so this is definitely a book that can be read as a standalone novel. The author always does a great job of moving between the various narrators while maintaining the suspense and making the story an intriguing one.

      Eight years ago Telly Ray Nash took a baseball bat to his father’s head, killing him. True the elder Nash was running after Telly and his younger sister, Sharlah, wielding a knife. True he had just fatally slashed Telly’s mother with that same knife. It was an instance of fight or flight and the two young children had no where to go, so Telly defended himself and his sister the best way he knew how.The orphans were separated, Telly bouncing around foster homes until Frank and Sandra Duvall took him in and tried to get him ready for adulthood. Sharlah fared somewhat better, finally settling in with Pierce Quincy and Rainie, a retired FBI profiler and a retired police officer, respectively. They want to adopt Sharlah and become a true family, which she is OK with.Their separate lives converged when Telly was filmed shooting out the security camera in a local convenience store, the site of a double murder. When the police arrive at the Duvall’s looking for Telly, they find Frank and Sandra shot dead. Telly is the likely suspect.The manhunt for Telly involves profilers, trackers, and multiple police agencies. Of course, all is not what it seems. There are secrets that need to be told in order to identify the murderer.The action starts in chapter one and continues throughout the book. Right Behind You grabs and keeps your attention. Of course, you are pulling for Sharlah and Telly. The twists and turns keep you guessing.
