About this audiobook

Robyn Harding’s domestic drama, hailed as “tense and riveting” by Megan Miranda, New York Times bestselling author of All the Missing Girls, explores the aftermath of a sweet sixteen birthday party that goes horribly awry, as the members of a wealthy family in San Francisco find their picture-perfect life unraveling, their darkest secrets revealed, and their friends turned to enemies.

One invitation. A lifetime of regrets.

Sweet sixteen. It’s an exciting coming-of-age, a milestone, and a rite of passage. Jeff and Kim Sanders plan on throwing a party for their daughter, Hannah—a sweet girl with good grades and nice friends. Rather than an extravagant, indulgent affair, they invite four girls over for pizza, cake, movies, and a sleepover. What could possibly go wrong?

But things do go wrong, horrifically so, and Jeff and Kim’s flawless life in a wealthy San Francisco suburb suddenly begins to come apart. In the ugly aftermath, friends become enemies, dark secrets are revealed in the Sanders’ marriage, and the truth about their perfect daughter is exposed.

Perfect for fans of Big Little Lies, this is a white-knuckled and “riveting tale that is impossible to put down” (Bill Clegg, New York Times bestselling author of Did You Ever Have a Family).

This book was a boring mess. I had hoped it would have a good ending, but it was a surprisingly horrible book.

Maybe entertaining for teenage girls. Based on the reviews I had figured it would be a decent entertaining read... it was drawn out and absurdly shallow and one dimensional. Don’t waste your time

I really enjoyed the story and the narration was excellent. But I could have done without the many cuss and swearing words.

This story is awful. There isn't even any real drama, just a group of particularly alike people worried about the wrong darned things. The chapter characters are mostly decent but their priorities are so fudged up, you're just waiting for them to get what they deserve. The most consistent elements are the theme of entitlement and the way it was handled...(spoiler alert...) Completely on brand. First world boring ass suburban housewife gossip BS that literally no one else cares about where everything turns out mostly all right at the end and no one learns a datgum thing. Donnez moi un break...

This book should be labeled as young adult or adolescent fiction. I think teenage girls would like it—just not for me

Ok...the characters in this book were not like able. Not a single one. I listened to the whole thing only so I could find out the twist(spoiler there was none). Most certainly not in the same vein as Liane Moriarty.

I was totally enraptured by this story from the start....then I reached the end. It fell flat! Thus, 3 stars. Great story, fast paced. The two main female adult characters were well written. Both deeply flawed and swimming in self loathing, easy to dislike them and yet waiting for them to each find salvation. I was disappointed for it really never came. Quite a disappointing ending considering the rest of the book was quite good.

Ugh. Just don’t bother. Horrible people doing stupid things, not a page-turner, just a slog.

These characters... I don't know how this author creates the most superficial, ugly, and spiteful characters, but this book is LOADED with them. The only character I liked was Aidan and he had maybe 30 lines total in this book. So if you're into that kind of thing, this is your book.

It was more realistic than most twisty suspenseful stories. I know a good book when it makes me feel and identify with characters that live outside of my moral character... and when I can guess a few predictable behavior choices but it all.. overall a good read and good narration.

This novels takes an incident at a 16th birthday party and maps the ramifications and secrets! The cliques of teenagers and adults, the meanness of bullying, the way events spiral. Lives are changed, destroyed,, turned upside down. It was fascinating, intelligent and I'm afraid very realistic and believable. An astonishing read!

This was compelling and well written. Really good narrator. Some plot holes, but most irritating was the wholly unbelievable civil trial story line - I don’t expect fiction to adhere strictly to real life litigation, but this was not even close.

The ending was a bit disappointing because Hannah didn’t learn a lesson about true friends vs popularity. Other than that it was intensely satisfying

I see why the book got bad reviews because the characters are just not likable. However it still made for a great dramatic page turner, which I love. Worth the read.

A below average Domestic thriller. Narrator was not very good and there wasn’t any major plot twist. I would pass on this one.
