About this audiobook

An instant New York Times bestseller!
An Indie Next Top 10 Pick
A Parents’ Choice Silver Honor Winner

“A funny, action-packed, and sweet romance.” —School Library Journal (starred review)
“A phenomenal read.” —RT Book Reviews

A skilled painter must stand up to the ancient power of the faerie courts—even as she falls in love with a faerie prince—in this gorgeous bestseller that’s “an ideal pick for fans of Holly Black, Maggie Stiefvater, and Laini Taylor” (Publishers Weekly, starred review).

Isobel is an artistic prodigy with a dangerous set of clients: the sinister fair folk, immortal creatures who cannot bake bread or put a pen to paper without crumbling to dust. They crave human Craft with a terrible thirst, and Isobel’s paintings are highly prized. But when she receives her first royal patron—Rook, the autumn prince—she makes a terrible mistake. She paints mortal sorrow in his eyes—a weakness that could cost him his life.

Furious, Rook spirits her away to his kingdom to stand trial for her crime. But something is seriously wrong in his world, and they are attacked from every side. With Isobel and Rook depending on each other for survival, their alliance blossoms into trust, then love—and that love violates the fair folks’ ruthless laws. Now both of their lives are forfeit, unless Isobel can use her skill as an artist to fight the fairy courts. Because secretly, her Craft represents a threat the fair folk have never faced in all the millennia of their unchanging lives: for the first time, her portraits have the power to make them feel.

An amazing book if you want to sit down and get caught up in another not-so-typical love story. This is the first YA I’ve read in awhile where I cannot get enough of it

Fast paced. Fantastic story telling. Julia Whelan's narration is soothing. it is a good standalone. I read the ebook version too, and this is one of the stories I would buy again for my bookshelf.

Giving this a solid four stars. There’s some instalove which isn’t my favorite. But overall this was a great book to listen to and kept me interested. I appreciated the fact that it was about fair folk and stuck more to classic legends.

Lyrical writing, but also a realism.Humor and portrayals of feelings and emotions in unexpected ways and from unexpected sources.

    This book is great!

The world of faerie is built wonderfully, as are the rules of the fae and the human town of Whimsy. It makes sense, it's richly developed but not overly tedious in its descriptions. The main character is practical and likeable. The plot is very well thought out.

I often find myself having to suspend my disbelief about a character's flaws and/or motivations in order to enjoy the story. This is usually due to annoying little plot holes or out-of-character plot devices that authors use. This book does not have those and can be enjoyed greatly! The character is smart and intelligent and thinks things through.

My only criticism is that I'm in love with the characters March and May and would like much much more of them!

It’s the third time listening to this book and probably won’t be the last. Just love it. I still find myself laughing out loud at parts and can imagine all the courts throughout the book. The sweet moments in between makes me come back to it.

Author has a real talent with words.
    The book is very enjoyable.
She is so talented with descriptions and storytelling.

The story is written so well it keeps you quite interested throughout. The author creates such beautiful scenes with beautiful imagery. Creating things so well that you can feel what it’s like to be there and see the gorgeously created scene so clearly. Even when they are places and things that do not even exist in our world.

She brings in all the senses.

    The story flows beautifully.

There are things in this fantasy story that make you reflect on things in real life in an interesting way.

Talented author and a narrator that does a very nice job.
    Definitely a book to hear.

i think the audiobook (x2) made it way better. it didn’t meet my expectations at all but the story had potential, i just feel it should be directed to younger audience because it feels too shallow for mature ones

Several years ago I bought the hardcover version of this book and loved it! I was thrilled to find it available as an audiobook on scribed. It was like hearing the story again for the first time. The author is very talented and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future. Also the storytelling was superb. The voice was perfect and I could picture everything so well as it happened.

This dark fantasy enchanted me from the start. The plot moves a bit too quickly in places. I would’ve liked to see a little more plot development in places, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

I enjoyed the characters a lot but found the book to be just OK other than that. The romance was at a good level and I enjoyed listening to this book. But it was a fun distraction, not something that sucked me in and kept me on the edge of my seat wanting more. Main parts of the plot felt lazy and I felt like their were missed opertunities to do more with the story. Spoilers: the future seeing gift was super OP and not well explained. I found that to be the most annoying part. I wanted them to do more with the wild hunt and that odd relationship.

I enjoyed this book, a unique storyline. I really liked the take on mortals and their crafts. Isobel seemed way older than 17!!!! She is strong, honest, smart, and vigilant. I love May and March, wish there had been more parts of them in the book. Rook is your typical prince at first but it didn’t take long to fall in love with him. Things Isobel sees when she goes to visit the spring court wow!! But really interesting spin on things. There were a few slow parts but then the action really picked up and it had me guessing what was going to happen next and sitting on the edge of my seat. Great narrator.

3,5 ? rounded up. This book has beautiful prose,a very likeable MC ,a lush, dark and delicious world, some great dialouge and is written with a sence of humour and a magical atmosphere. It had so many things I appreciated, and I liked it so so much more than for example A court of Thorns and Roses ( or a Cort of Stupid MC and Toxic Hypermasculinity,as I like to call it) .I've seen people compare the two,and I think everything I found wrong about ACOTAR ,Rogerson managed to do different, and right in this one. But I also can't help comparing it to Sorcery of thorns, Rogersons recent release. And knowing how incredible that one was, this one left me a bit underwhelmed. I think it was well worth reading, or in this case listening to on audiobook, but the pacing and how the plot was build up,was pretty weak compared to the wonderful Sorcery of thorns. You can easily tell from this debut, that Rogerson is a talentet writer. And realizing just how much her talent developed between her first and second book,it almost makes med giddy to think about what her next book will bring!
