About this audiobook

This original Amish Christmas novella from best-selling author Cindy Woodsmall promises to warm the hearts of her many fans with its Old Order Amish ways, touching romance, realistic faith experiences, and holiday-season family drama. When Rose Kurtz first arrived in Joel Dienner's home four years ago, the Amish widower had been completely grief-stricken by the shocking loss of his wife during childbirth. At the recommendation of the bishop, Joel's father, Rose is asked to become his bride and take care of his two small children and newborn baby, nestled in the tiny Amish community of Forest Hill in the eastern Appalachian mountains, far from Rose's home. After four years in as just housemates, Rose is wondering if Joel finally has opened his heart again-but she fears it isn't with her. She loves the children she has been raising with a mother's love, and she may care for Joel more deeply than he cares for her. But maybe, with a Christmas miracle, Joel could see his "angel" as she really is.

It’s time to get in the mood for the holiday season! I purposely picked The Angel of Forest Hill to start my holiday reading for one main purpose: given that it is an Amish romance, I knew I could count on a sweet story. Woodsmall delivered! I’ve read other sweet stories by Woodsmall, and she never disappoints. In this story, twenty-one-year-old Rose Kurtz is asked by her bishop to go help a family in crisis in West Virginia. The Amish life is hard, and Rose’s has been no exception. She is one of twelve children and the only girl. Her Mamm is a hard woman; she considers Rose more of a maid than a daughter. Shy Rose is neglected by her entire family. I felt bad for Rose in that there were no happy family scenes that I rather expected in an Amish story. The West Virginia community of Forest Hill requested help from Pennsylvania because with only eight-families, there was no one who could supply what was needed. Rose is sent to the home of Joel Dienner. His young wife has just died giving birth to baby Grace. The household consists of two toddlers, boys, ages three and two. Within weeks of her arrival, Joel’s grieving extended family has to get to back to their lives. Rose cannot live under Joel’s roof as a single woman, so they are forced to marry. Joel is too grief-stricken to worry about Rose. As they make arrangements, Rose asks Joel for the only thing she longs for and has never received. But as time and years pass, Rose, Joel and the children settle into a happy life. Then, inadvertently, Joel spills a secret to his late wife’s mother. Will Rose be forced to leave the home she has built and the people she has come to love?Set in contemporary times, I often found myself thinking this was historical fiction. Doesn’t really matter. It’s a good read, and predictable. And since it’s only a tad over 200 pages, only takes an evening or two to read. I give The Angel of Forest Hill 4 out of 5 stars.I received this book from Blogging for Books in exchange for this review.

Quick, uplifting read from one of the best writers of Amish fiction. Emotionally intense with well-developed characters in a difficult situation, this is a great short piece that offers humor, hope, and a HEA.

Can you imagine being one of twelve children in a family? What if you were the only girl in the Amish family? You would be working long hours helping with the laundry, dishes, cooking and cleaning . Rose has not had an easy life and her relationship with her mother is quite strained. Rose is a sweet character with a heart of gold. Her mother however seems to criticize everything she does. Joel has just lost his wife and is now left alone with three small children to raise. He is grieving and trying to do the best he can to keep his family together. I liked his character and thought he was a great father. He always put his children's needs first. Looks like help is on the way for Joel and his family. The Bishop has asked for Rose to go help Joel out. I wonder what Rose was thinking as she packed her bag to leave? What would the children be like? Would Joel be willing to let her help him? After her arrival there is a quick marriage between the two. I'm sure it must have been awkward for both of them. I loved how Rose took to the children and treated them as her own . The story is emotional at times but it is a great reminder that love does conquer all. There were some disagreements along the way that really made the story so real. I loved the slow attraction between Joel and Rose. What happens when Rose returns home after four years for a visit? Can she repair her relationship with her mother? I think I loved this part of the story especially because it was so honest and really showed how saying you were wrong is ok. Be sure you pick up a copy of this lovely Christmas story and fell the warmth and love of family . "If you're broken but together, you can mend together. "I received a complimentary copy of this book from Blogging For Books. The review is my own opinion and I was not compensated for it.

The Angel of Forest Hill by Cindy Woodsmall is a lovely Amish romance. Rose Kurtz is the only daughter in the family. She has eleven brothers and their needs dominate the household. Her mother has never had a kind word for Rose. Then one day the Bishop comes by to ask a very large, life altering favor from Rose. There is a family in need in a small Amish community. Joel Dienner just lost his wife, Florence (died giving birth). He needs someone to help with the children (two children in addition to the new baby, Grace). There are only eight families in this little Amish community. They would love to help, but they all have their own families and responsibilities. Because of the circumstances, Rose would have to marry Joel. Rose knows this is her chance to get away and she agrees. The two marry, but they each have their own bedroom. A year later Joel is finally starting to come alive again. Rose has been a big help with the kids and with Joel’s business. Her suggestions have even helped his business become profitable. Four years later the two of them are still in separate bedrooms. But they are attracted to each other. They spend more time together and get to know each other. Joel helps Rose overcome her fears. Erma, Joel’s former mother-in-law, is very nasty to Rose. Joel talks to her and, unfortunately, lets it slip that Rose and Joel have never consummated their marriage. Erma hot foots it over to the Bishop to tell him. The Bishop (Joel’s father) has no choice but to take this issue to a higher authority. Just when Rose and Joel are ready to move forward with their relationship, they might be ripped apart. Join Rose and Joel in The Angel of Forest Hill. The Angel of Forest Hill is a special book. You will be drawn in right from the beginning. The book is well-written, has good characters, and a beautiful setting. The story is told from Joel and Rose’s point-of-views. I give The Angel of Forest Hill 4 out of 5 stars (I liked it). It is a sweet story, but it does have a predictable ending. The Angel of Forest Hill is lovely book that will help you get into the spirit of Christmas. It is a short novel (208 pages) that can be finished in just a couple of hours. I do wish the author had provided an epilogue. I would have liked to find out how Rose and Joel fared. Did they have kids? Did Rose end up having a good relationship with her mother? There are a couple of recipes at the end of the book.

This was a fantastic novella. Rose Kurtz and Joel Dienner get married because Joel's wife has died and he needs someone to help him care for his three very young children. Rose had problems in her home where she grew up so she has trouble getting close to Joel. Joel tries to get it through her heart that he does love her after being together for 4 years. Rose needs to learn that she is worthy of love. I received this book from bloggingforbooks for a fair and honest opinion.

Rose Kurtz is the only girl in the family of twelve children, and if any parents should have had counseling Roses should have. So when the Bishop asks the family to have their daughter travel to West Virginia to a very small Amish community of fifteen families, to help a very ill mother whom had just given birth, the family does what the bishop asks.Poor Rose arrives amidst the grieving of a family, a screaming new born, and two other young ones crying for their mom. What a heart breaker, and Rose is a tender young woman, despite her upbringing.Joel Dienner is now desperate, what will he do, he is shattered and now responsible for three young children, and how will he support and take care of them? Rose is now the answer, and a quick, in name only, marriage takes place. This book does become a page-turner, and it is a very fast read, but of course it is written like you are watching it unfold before your eyes. Once you pick this up you will be at the end in no time, and wanting more, it is that good!I received this book through Blogging For Books, and was not required to give a positive review.

Title: The Angel of Forest HillAuthor: Cindy WoodsmallPublisher: WaterBrookReviewed By: Arlena DeanRating: FiveReview:"The Angel of Forest Hill" by Cindy WoodsmallMy Thoughts...What a interesting read that will keep your attention all the way to the end. What a job that was presented to Rose Kurtz by Nat Eash who was her bishop. Rose was leaving Perry County, Pennsylvania to go to Forest Hill to help out this situation. However, Rose would have never known what all would be involved for her upon her arrival. As I read this story I couldn't imagine what all Rose went through as as she was put into this predicament of becoming a caretaker of this grieving Joel Dienner family and then onto a marriage that was in name only. But I must say her home life wasn't something great to talk about either. How will this turn out for Rose? Will Rose be able to get pass all that had happened to her from her family and a certain member of the Dienner family? What will happen when the 'beautiful widow' arrives that will bring on "a series of misunderstandings?" I will say at a certain part in the read I really enjoyed the forgiveness that was presented to Rose from her mamm. I will stop her and just say you will just have to pick up this good read to see how well it is presented to the reader. It will definitely be one of those read that will be with you long after the read. If you are looking for a good light read this would be one for you to read.
