About this audiobook

The epic true story of an extreme athlete, a stray dog, and how they found each other-now a major motion picture from Lionsgate starring Mark Walhberg and Simu Liu.

When you're racing 435 miles through the jungles and mountains of South America, the last thing you need is a stray dog tagging along. But that's exactly what happened to Mikael Lindnord, captain of a Swedish adventure racing team, when he threw a scruffy but dignified mongrel a meatball one afternoon.

When the team left the next day, the dog followed. Try as they might, they couldn't lose him-and soon Mikael realized that he didn't want to. Crossing rivers, battling illness and injury, and struggling through some of the toughest terrain on the planet, the team and the dog walked together toward the finish line, where Mikael decided he would save the dog, now named Arthur, and bring him back to his family in Sweden, whatever it took. In compelling prose, Arthur provides a testament to the amazing bond between dogs and people.

This tells the true story of not only a dog but of a man, as well. This is their very special story.Arthur was a pitiful street dog in Ecuador when Mikael Lindnord tossed him a meatball. Mikael was there competing in the Adventure Racing World Championship. Arthur saw a good thing and remained with the team. Mikael and Arthur became a team of their own.A campaign to get Arthur back to Sweden began. The racing team took to Twitter to help raise funds. The Ecuadorian Social Affairs Ministry Dept. assisted, along with the Swedish Board of Agriculture, in getting Arthur “Home”.As Arthur was noticed by the media, people came forth to claim him as their dog. However, when his poor health and severe wounds were uncovered, talk turned to prosecution. Claims were retracted. Arthur finally went home to Sweden and Mikael.Once there, he got the medical and emotional attention that he needed and deserved. Arthur was quarantined for four months as he healed. His health was evaluated and improved greatly.Arthur finally had a family. But, he also had a purpose. He continued to be part of Mikael’s racing team, accompanying them on more competitions. He also was the inspiration and heart of “Arthur’s Foundation”, to help other street dogs in Arthur’s native Ecuador.I recommend this book to those who love animals and love happy endings. This story is special. It is about coming from behind and winning. It is also about passing that goodness on to others who need it. And, it’s all true.

This story is about eighty percent extreme athletic endurance and twenty percent unconditional love. The main event is a race through over 400-mile obstacle course through South American terrain. Readers learns what it takes to host, participate and complete a swimming, biking, running, climbing, and paddling long distance race. This Swedish team is only as strong as its weakest member is. There is a critical turning point in the race when the team forfeits a critical lunch to provide a stray dog with a meal. The story’s intermittent pacing accurately reflects the consequence of both the team progress and subsequent trip home to Sweden. The book will appeal to sports and animal story fans.I received this book through a Publisher's promotional giveaway. Although encouraged as a courtesy to provide feedback, I was under no obligation to write a review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
