About this audiobook

New York Times bestselling author Robert Dugoni’s thrilling series continues as Seattle homicide detective Tracy Crosswhite is plunged into a case of family secrets and murder…

“Another outstanding novel from one of the best crime writers in the business.” —Associated Press

Called in to consult after a young woman disappears, Tracy Crosswhite has the uneasy feeling that this is no ordinary missing-persons case. When the body turns up in an abandoned well, Tracy’s suspicions are confirmed. Estranged from her family, the victim had balked at an arranged marriage and had planned to attend graduate school. But someone cut her dreams short.

Solving the mystery behind the murder isn’t Tracy’s only challenge. The detective is keeping a secret of her own: she’s pregnant. And now her biggest fear seems to be coming true when a new detective arrives to replace her. Meanwhile, Tracy’s colleague Vic Fazzio is about to take a fall after his investigation into the murder of a local community activist turns violent and leaves an invaluable witness dead.

Two careers are on the line. And when more deadly secrets emerge, jobs might not be the only things at risk.

I really love this series. This time round we get to see more of Faz and Vera. I love the whole changing point of view thing. It's not something I usually like but in this series it just works. Or the author is just really talented. Not sure. Either way, awesome. A mark of a good book is when you feel the characters emotions. And this is a great book. I felt happy, I felt sad. My heart broke for Vera and Faz. The book dragged me through all the emotions of all the characters. I've grown very fond of the A Team and their partners. Except Nolasco. He's an ass. The cases were both interesting and while I thought I saw the twist coming it was not quite what I expected. Totally thought Gonzalez was dirty. And then I thought Francisco was undercover cop. On the other hand I partly guessed who killed Vita. I can't wait to read the next one. Hopefully it won't be too long of a wait. 4.5 stars.

Better than some, not as good as others in the series. I was much more involved in the Faz and Del story line than the Tracy one. Yes, I'll be reading the next one soon.

While Tracy is busy with the missing woman case is Vic Fazzio dealing with the murder of a local community activist...two stories in the same book and set in a familiar area. Some of the plot twists are unexpected. Tracy's case deals with Indian arranged marriages and the villain is_____. Makes one think about the other guy's marriage traditions. The cop characters have sincere relationships that are pretty well told...like "Barney Miller" tv series. I couldn't comment on the criminals nor the Indians. Book #6 is a winner--on to #7.

A Steep Price, though #6 in this series, can be read as a standalone, but this is such an excellent series, I recommend you read them all. Once again, there are two stories being told as anyone knows that there is always more than one crime happening at a time. Detectives Del Castigliano and Vic Fazzio of the Seattle Police Department A Team are called to a shooting. It is daytime and a mother of two, Monique Rogers is gunned down in broad daylight in a city park. She is an African American community activist, who is trying to clean up the drug trade in her neighbourhood of South Park. Was this a retaliatory shooting or was Mrs. Rogers just in the wrong place at the wrong time? Not a soul will offer any information whatsoever. Faz, is sure that Little Jimmy, has something to do with this killing as he runs the drugs for the Sureno Cartel. Meanwhile, Detective Tracy Crosswhite is tied up in court as a witness while trying to keep her pregnancy a secret. Even though she has not revealed her pregnancy, a young female detective, Andrea Gonzalez, shows up as a new member of the A Team. Gonzalez already crosses swords with Tracy by asking her about her secret pregnancy. Has Captain Nolasco set plans into motion for a replacement for Tracy? When their only suspect is killed by Gonzalez, it looks like Faz is the fall guy for this shooting of an unarmed man. As Tracy is trying to reconcile why Gonzalez is there, she receives a call about a missing woman, Kavita Mukherjee. According to her best friend, Aditi, both women had their eyes set on medical school and roomed together. When Vita finds out Aditi is now married, she is angry and disappears. Is she just hiding to wrap her mind around the changes this will bring to her life, or has something bad happened to her?

I liked that this story has Del and Faz front and center. Not only is Faz dealing with the issues plaguing his career, but his wife Vera has been diagnosed with cancer and he is also dealing with that. Del is off with a bad back, but when he comes back, he knows it is up to him to find out what really happened and clear Faz's name. This one is layered with crimes, brutality, gangs and drugs in one plotline, as well as arranged marriages, the place of women and how families believe that woman are property in some cultures. The issues of breast cancer are also dealt with to a degree. So much going on, yet is all fits and Dugoni has once again penned suspenseful story with a lot of realism and family issues. Once again, be sure to read the acknowledgments at the end of the story to find out more about the topics chosen for this book. I am still very happy with this series and will continue to read it as long as Robert Dugoni continues to write the Tracy Crosswhite series.

I love the story telling ability of this author. He can weave several stories together that are seemingly unrelated...and bring it all together beautifully in the end. Tracy Crosswhite is a very believable character that comes across as very human and extremely likable even when she's in one of her "moods". In this book Tracy's life takes a big leap both in her career life and her personal life. Fans of the series will love this one and newbies will want to read all the books from 1-6.

I have read only one book by Robert Dugoni, the Extraordinary Life of Same Hell and it was exceptional. I loved it. Thinking the genre of A Steep Price was so different I had slight trepidation when I opened the latest in the Tracy Crosswhite Series. As the expression goes, “no worries”, Dugoni writes crime, murder and high suspense extraordinarily well. This book stands alone and while reading the previous five books in the series would obviously fill in some of the back story I never felt adrift. The characters were credible, both in their police and private lives. Tracy Crosswhite and her partner Kinsington Rowe become involved in a missing person’s case which delves into ethnic, parental and feminist issues. Detectives Del Castigliano and Vic Fazzio have their own subplot and it was a nail-biter. A personal subplot examines a devastating situation confronting the Fazzios. As I was reading I kept telling my husband that this has to be his next go-to series. The story is interesting and fast moving, the characters are human and interesting and the writing is terrific. No doubt about it – I am going to read the five previous books as I look forward to Book Number 7.Thank you NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for an ARC

Thank you to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for an e-ARC of A Steep Price by Robert Dugoni in exchange for an honest review. This novel is the sixth in the series featuring homicide detective Tracy Crosswhite. However, it can easily be read as a standalone. What makes this murder mystery interesting are the dual storylines: Tracy investigates a missing person case while another detective in her department, Vic Fazzio, investigates the murder of a community activist. The author moves seamlessly between the two cases, maintaining the attention of the reader throughout. This was my first Robert Dugoni but it will not be the last. The author proves to be exceptional when it comes to police procedurals. Highly recommended.

I received a free advance e-copy of this book from the author and have chosen to write an honest and unbiased review. I have no personal affiliation with the author. Wow! This is a great addition to the Tracy Crosswhite series by one of my all time favorite authors, Robert Dugoni. Tracy is asked to look into a missing persons case by a colleague. A female medical student of East Indian heritage who is estranged from her family is missing. Meanwhile Del and Fazzio are investigating a murder that leads to drugs. The author addresses the issues of arranged marriages for East Indian women and the sugar baby and sugar daddy online dating services. We see that Tracy, Kins, Del, and Fazzio are vulnerable and human as they react to changes in their lives. ‘A Steep Price’ is a very well written police procedural with well-developed plots and excellent character development. I couldn’t put it down. The action and suspense never quits. Full of twists, turns, and surprises. This book is well worth the read and I look forward to reading more from Robert Dugoni in the future.

A Steep Price ByRobert DugoniWhat it's all about...This is a thriller/mystery that has two different teams trying to solve a murder and a disappearance...that could be another murder...both of these are going on at the same time...in alternate chapters. This book is so good that it kept me interested and focused throughout its pages. I loved the alternating chapters...detectives Faz and Del...and detectives Tracy and Kins...each pair involved in their own investigations. Why I wanted to read it...The plot of this book was intense. I enjoy the work of this author. I love his Tracy Crosswhite series. What made me truly enjoy this book...The relationships of the detectives...were engrossing. One detective was dealing with his wife’s illness...another detective was dealing with pregnancy, maternity leave and her issues with a new detective...her potential replacement. All of these issues were stressful for each detective but fascinating to read about. Why you should read it, too...Readers who enjoy a fast paced mystery with lots of danger and excitement should enjoy this book. I received an advance reader’s copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley and Amazon. It was my choice to read it and review it.
