About this audiobook

Seven perfect days. Then he disappeared. A love story with a secret at its heart.

When Sarah meets Eddie, they connect instantly and fall in love. To Sarah, it seems as though her life has finally begun. And it's mutual: It's as though Eddie has been waiting for her, too. Sarah has never been so certain of anything. So when Eddie leaves for a long-booked vacation and promises to call from the airport, she has no cause to doubt him. But he doesn't call.

Sarah's friends tell her to forget about him, but she can't. She knows something's happened—there must be an explanation.

Minutes, days, weeks go by as Sarah becomes increasingly worried. But then she discovers she's right. There is a reason for Eddie's disappearance, and it's the one thing they didn't share with each other: the truth.

BINGO:Summer ReadBest for:Fans of the Liane Moriarty school or interwoven stories with a serious mystery at the center. In a nutshell:Sarah and Eddie spent an amazing week together before he left for a quick holiday. She hasn't heard from him since, even though they basically declared their love for each other. Is he just a jerk, or is there something else going on?Worth quoting:N/AWhy I chose it:Wandered into a bookshop looking for Nine Perfect Strangers, but it's still in hardback so way too big for travel. This cover reminded me of Moriarty's style, then I read the back and thought 'yup, this is perfect to read on the lake this summer.'Review:Whew, after two serious non-fiction books in a row I needed this. It isn't exactly light reading, but it was quick and enthralling and I quite literally did not want to put it down. (Seriously, I was annoyed when I had to set it aside so I could shower this morning.) I started it yesterday late in the day and finished it over lunch today. I wanted to know how it ended, but I also enjoyed the path author Walsh took to get us there. The book is broken into three parts, and most of it is told from the perspective of our protagonist Sarah. We learn early on that she's lost her sister at a young age, and she carries that loss with her into adulthood, where it factors into major life choices like leaving the UK for the US and her career path. She meets Eddie on a visit home to the UK but doesn't yet tell him the details of her childhood. Then, he's gone. They promise to meet up after his trip to Spain but she doesn't hear from him again after they part ways. He doesn't respond to texts or voicemail and hasn't checked in on social media (but also hasn't blocked her), leading Sarah to think, given how intense their week together was, that something has gone horribly wrong. To tell you anything more would take away from your enjoyment of this book. But please trust me when I say that there are some turns you see coming and some turns you don't. And I'll be honest in that the ending wasn't the one I would have picked but I think it still works well (hence the five star review).Really my biggest issue with the whole book is the part where Sarah realizes she didn't ask Eddie how he was going to vote on the Brexit Referendum (the book starts in the summer of 2016). If there was any chance he was going to vote Leave, I'd say that ghosting was really a blessing.Keep it / Pass to a Friend / Donate it / Toss it:Donate it - leaving it at this lake house so the next guests can enjoy it.

Make sure you have plenty of time to devote to this story because it’s unlikely you’ll want to put it down once you start! It would be so easy to assume that it is going to be an easy, and probably rather humorous, romantic read, an ideal book for lounging in the sun with, easy to pick up and put down at will In fact it’s far more complex and nuanced than that. Yes, it does have a love-story at its heart, but there is also a mystery to be solved, secrets from the past to be revealed and the devastating effects of these to be resolved if Sarah is to stand any chance of discovering the reasons for Eddie’s silence. With chapters moving backwards and forwards in time, and using emails and letters to offer insights into the past experiences of both the main characters, the story gradually reveals a complex web of interconnections between Sarah and Eddie. It incorporates a wide range of themes, exploring each one in a sensitive and insightful way. Some of the darker issues focus on bereavement, grief and loss, mental health, guilt and shame, the unreasonable demands families can make, stresses faced by long-time carers, terminally ill children and ambivalence about motherhood. Alongside these are explorations of the importance of having loyal, supportive friends and family, the need to hold onto hope, to believe in the possibility of redemption and self-forgiveness – and, weaving a thread through all these themes, is a central question about whether true love does in fact have the power to overcome any obstacle. As the story gradually unfolded I felt I got to know Sarah and Eddie, to recognise their vulnerabilities, and their strengths, and to understand what drove them to make the decisions they did. I found myself caring deeply about what happened to them and must admit that there were moments when I needed to reach for the tissues when faced with their almost unbearable pain, confusion and agonising moments of indecision. I admired the ways in which the author captured so evocatively the many ways in which all our senses are heightened, and the world feels so much brighter and joyful when we fall in love; she was equally adept at capturing the contrasting intensity of despair and self-doubt when relationships go wrong. She also brought her skills to bear on the multi-faceted supporting characters in the story, creating roles and relationships for each of them, all of which felt essential to the developing story. By the time I finished the book I felt that I had got to know, and care about, every one of her characters. The author managed the various twists and turns in the story, the see-sawing emotions of her two main characters, and the final denouement, in ways which felt convincing. Although I had guessed certain aspects of the outcome, there was an extra twist which took me by surprise and therefore added an extra layer to my enjoyment of this story – and increased my admiration for the author’s plotting skills! I’m aware that, using the pseudonym Lucy Robinson, she has written four earlier novels but as I haven’t read any of them, I don’t know whether they are as nuanced as this one, the first she has written using her own name. I’d love to know what influenced her decision to “own” this particular story but, whatever her reasons, I’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for the next Rosie Walsh novel, hoping for another “gem”.I think there is enough depth to this story to provide lots of discussion points for reading groups. With thanks to Pan Books and Readers First for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

2.5 stars; I rounded up. First, thank you to the Penguin Random House First to Read program for an advanced copy for an honest review.

I really wanted to like this book. I liked the premise - two people meet, have a whirlwind romance, and then she just doesn't hear from him (hence the title). Why? Where did he go? To be fair, the book answers all the questions. Everything is resolved by the end, which I do appreciate. But getting there was tough. The book is littered with letters "To You" and "From Me" and the reader has to guess who they are to/from, often with purposeful misdirects.

The mystery part of the book was withheld for too long, in my opinion, which made it drag. When Sarah (the main character) is frantically wondering why Eddie ghosted her, this could have been condensed considerably. By the time secrets start to be revealed, the book does get better, but the process of getting there took too long. Also, the information that was not provided by the author was too much - clues should have been dropped sooner instead of a "bam" reveal.

Also, you have to suspend reality to think that this wouldn't have come out during the couple's time together, but that's true of many books lately.

Last, there were too many ancillary characters that weren't developed well. These were introduced and then forgotten about for pages and pages.

The concept was interesting, but it needed a little more polish to earn more stars in my opinion.

This was fabulous. Not like any other I’ve read in a while the plot started slow and then twisted and turned until I couldn’t put it down.

I enjoyed this book. I felt Sarah was a little nuts to spend so much time looking for a guy she knew only a week, but she had reason to keep looking and as the story plays out, there are two plot twists to the story…the last one I never way coming.

This was one of my July BotM picks. It's a little outside of what I would normally go for, but the editor review was just so good I had to have it.I am so glad I did. Every time I picked this book up I had such hard time putting it down again. It was a love story, but it wasn't a romance novel. Sarah and Eddie have one incredible week together, and then he ghosts her. He disappears, and at first you wonder if something terrible has happened to Eddie. Then you wonder where Eddie's mind is. Then you wonder where Sarah's mind is. Then you wonder if something terrible has happened to Sarah. Then the book is over. I loved the organization of this book. Plot details were revealed in such a way that there was always an element of mystery as to what was going on. Had I taken more time to read this, I would have picked up on some of the clues. I noticed in several places that what was revealed in character dialogue easily could have been worked out, if only I had tried. But I was too busy powering through to have someone else tell me what was going to happen next.I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys a light read with an element of surprise. I felt like each of the three parts ended with a plot twist (though minor compared to a true mystery/thriller). I was surprised at many times. I gasped twice, I love the books that make me gasp. I also find myself wanting more. I liked how the story ended, but I also didn't feel like the story was over. I am very pleased with my choice in this book.

It is love at first sight when Sarah meets and spends an absolutely perfect week with Eddie. As he leaves on a long-booked vacation, they promise each other to reunite and make plans for their future together and then, Eddie disappears. Sarah simply can't accept that Eddie is "ghosting" her given the intensity of their week together. At first, it appears that something nefarious has happened to Eddie, particularly since Sarah starts to get warning messages to leave him alone. Soon after, however, it is unclear if Sarah has lost her mind altogether or if something altogether different is going on. With several strange twists and some suspension of disbelief, Ghosted keeps the reader guessing until the end. I enjoyed this light read with it's emphasis on social media and the superficiality of modern human connections. Overall, a good beach read.

Thank you to Pan Macmillan and NetGalley for an e-ARC of Ghosted by Rosie Walsh in exchange for an honest review. What a story! Mysteries and thrillers are normally my favorite genres. However, this love story completely captivated me. This is not a formulaic romance. It is about Sarah who unexpectedly meets Eddie. They spend seven days together in the British countryside and promise each other to reconnect after Eddie's pre-arranged holiday. The rest you must read for yourself. It is an emotional roller-coaster: you will never know what comes next. The book is unpredictable and mysterious. The only problem is that the book is not long enough. I would have gladly spent more time with Sarah and Eddie. It is hoped that more is to come from Rosie Walsh.

After 3 days of trying to finish this book, I decided to DNF it. I just can’t connect with Sarah (the protagonist). I can’t justify Sarah’s actuations with her 7 day love affair with Eddie. Seriously, get on with your life, if he does not call you then he’s not interested. I did skim through the book and read the reasons, the plot twist and answers to some of my nagging questions. But nah...this book is not for me. So yeah, I definitely wasted my BOTM credit for this.

Walsh, Rosie. Ghosted. 8 CDs. unabridged. 9.5 hrs. Books on Tape. 2018. 9780525631262. Love at first sight may sound like a cliche; but after a week of romantic bliss with a perfect stranger; Sarah becomes a believer. Sarah and Eddie have connected on every level and have fallen hopelessly in love. After seven days together, they know each other inside and out. But then suddenly, Eddie doesn't call. Not for a day. A week. Or even a month. Complete and utter silence. Sarah knows what they had wasn't just a fling and racks her brain trying to think of what could have happened. Is he injured? Has he died? Does he have a secret life? Never does it cross her mind that his feelings towards her have changed. Grief envelopes her life as her friends try to help her cope and move on. But what if there is something more to the story. What if something in her past is coming back to haunt her? How can she let go of the past if she can't let go of a man she's only known for a week? Breathtakingly narrated by Katherine Press, the narration spills forward and keeps readers enthralled as the story picks up speed. Press does a wonderful job bringing Sarah's paranoia, fear, hope, and worry to life with her skilled and accented oration. Surprising to the very end, each section of the story captures the reader in new unsuspecting ways. - Erin Cataldi, Johnson Co. Public Library, Franklin, IN

GhostedByRosie WalshWhat it's all about...Sarah and Hannah are sisters. Alex is Hannah’s best friend. A horrible accident causes the death of one of these girls. The other girls never speak to each other for years and years. Why I wanted to read it...Ghosted began in a lovely and mysterious kind of way. This kind of writing just captures me totally. Sarah always came home to her little town outside of London at the same time every year. She spent quality time with her parents even though one member of her family was missing. On her last trip home she met Eddie and had an idyllic week with him. What made me truly enjoy this book...Sarah’s life changed after Eddie. They were supposed to remain connected but suddenly and mysteriously Eddie is gone. He doesn’t return texts or phone calls. Sarah really loses her cool over this and completely obsesses over finding Eddie. Her friends beg her to stop...she is totally unwilling to do so. The next part of the book is Eddie’s story and we find out about his troubled past and why he abandoned Sarah...their stories are both achingly sad yet when they were together they were so happy. Why you should read it, too...Readers who love beautiful writing and a mysterious story will really enjoy this book. Interesting characters and interesting story lines made this book very special. I received an advance reader’s copy of this book from the publisher through Edelweiss and Amazon. It was my choice to read it and review it.

Ugh. The heroine was totally annoying and stalker-ish/obsessive for Parts I and II, and twice the author blithely let us believe things that patently weren't true. I enjoy being kept in suspense and the odd, unexpected plot twist as much as the next person, but not being deliberately mislead TWICE in the same book. The ending was lovely but not at all worth the aggravation of reading the rest of the book. I wasn't at all a fan of the author's writing style--some of her descriptions were over-the-top strange--and find it highly unlikely I'd pick up anything by her again. Now if I could only figure out where it was I heard about this one in the first place, and never trust their recommendations again...Rating: 1 1/2 stars (for the ending--at least I got that far; yay, me!) / D+

Sarah doesn't like staying at her parents house alone so she goes for a walk and meets a man talking to sheep. A week later Sarah and Eddie part with Sarah expecting to keep in touch and to see Eddie in a few days. Eddie seems to fall off the face of the earth and Sarah can't seem to let it go. I absoultely loved this book. Just when I thought I had figued it out there was the first of a few twists. This book was much more than I expcted it to be and left me a bit emotionally drained. Ghosted is a spectacular debut novel; it is beautifully written and perfectly paced, and I could not put it down until I was finished reading it. Walsh kept me guessing the entire time, and I thought the book was truly perfect from beginning to end. The plot and storytelling are unique, the characters are highly likeable, and the ending is both satisfying and believable. I highly, highly recommend it, and I cannot say enough good things about it.

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley.Sarah, visiting her parents in the UK, meets Eddie and during their week together they fall in love. Or so Sarah thinks... because Eddie leaves for a pre-arranged holiday in Spain and never contacts her again. Sarah is so sure that they are meant to be together that she cannot believe Eddie has simply had second thoughts.I found this intriguing and the structure whereby we gradually learn more about Sarah's past and why she moved to the US as a teenager, together with sections addressed to the dead sister, worked well initially. After a while though the first part began to seem unduly drawn out: we were drip-fed tiny extra snippets of information while Sarah obsessed over a man she had known for only seven days. I found it hard to like Sarah and hard to respect some one so unwilling to face facts and move on, if I'm honest. I also couldn't understand why she didn't just go to his house and confront him. The secondary characters were well drawn and more likeable than the main protagonists, oddly. There were a couple of twists, the first and better of which I didn't see coming. The second seemed a little unfair to the reader. The second part, from Eddie's point of view, was less mystery and straight explanation and again, felt unnecessarily drawn out. The ending was sweet. Overall enjoyable, if you can accept some obsessive behaviour as admirable and believe love overcomes everything.

beautiful! at first I almost decided not to finish the book because Sara starting to look so irritatingly pathetic in all angles but then after I reached the peak where the twist of the story was revealed and all my “whys?” were shutted then no doubt why this book became best selling.

the story is a summary of how Universe has this way of mixing things up and complicating someone’s life then magically patched things in a very unimaginable and less expected way like there was no big deal happened in the past, like WTF?!. its a bit of crazy story Its like “why among all the people in the “WORLD” why is has to be you?” c’mon?! we have like Zllion of people out there why it has to be you?! crazy huh?!

Sarah and Eddie spend one week together, and they fall in love. And then he disappears - he doesn't answer his phone calls or acknowledge text messages. The story is fairly maudlin at this point, but later - when we get more of the back story - it turns more interesting. By the end, I was feeling gratified at the outcome, which I wouldn't have expected at page 50, when I considered stopping reading. Still, it was uneven. Since it was a debut novel, the author certainly has room to improve.

I’ve had this book on my shelf for a while just waiting for me! After being semi-caught up on my NetGalley reads, I grabbed this off my shelf and dove in. What a perfect book to end my 2019 reading challenge.

A love-story like no other, with twists and turns, Ghosted is a fast-paced read with likable characters, ironic situations and enough love to keep you going till the last page. Twists I totally didn’t see coming and turns where I expected a whole different outcome.

Sarah and Eddie meet and have an instant connection, they spend 7 wonderful days together. Then he leaves for vacation, making a promise to call when he returns. Instead, he falls off the face of the earth and Sarah is devastated. What happened? Did she misread signals? Sarah goes a little crazy trying to find out, only to be rocked to her core.

(Sigh) Another BOTM bust ☹️Sarah and Eddie meet and instantly fall in love with each other. They spend seven perfect days together until Sarah has to go back to LA and Eddie has to go on holiday to Spain. When they part ways and he promises he will keep in contact but never does. Sarah becomes increasingly worried that something bad has happened to him. And she may be right...Okay first off, Rosie Walsh enough with the damn grass already! This author has a tendency to over dramatize the scenery to the point of annoyance. Seriously we've got it with the grass. The love story is melodramatic at best and with pointless side characters and their irrelevant additions to the main storyline this makes it for less than a good read. But it was the pretty cover and the promise of a good love story that drew me in. I really need to stop judging books by their covers. The twist at the end, though mildly surprising, was not unexpected at all. And Walsh's constant battle with other side characters storylines in the feeble attempt to twist you up even more as the reader fails even more dramatically then the love story itself. Now let's talk about the main character shall we? Sarah is newly divorced from a 17-year long marriage and is approaching her 40s as is Eddie. For a woman of her age to get wrapped up so quickly and obsessed so profoundly over a man that she only knew for a week is a bit more than far fetched. I mean, come on! It would be more believable for a 15 year old girl to be the main character of this book rather than the 30 odd something woman that Walsh chose to write in. Despite the fact that I side with her friends and would have told her myself to just forget about the guy and move on, her incessant whining and obsessive compulsive behavior over the situation makes her even more unrelatable and unlikable.I can't really say that I would recommend this one. Sad but true. It just has too many issues for me.
