About this audiobook

After years of working at the ends of the earth in human rights and development, Brent Preston and his wife were die-hard city dwellers. But when their second child arrived, the shine came off urban living. In 2003 they bought a hundred acres and a rundown farmhouse and set out to build a real farm, one that would sustain their family, nourish their community, heal their environment, and turn a profit.

The New Farm is Preston’s memoir of a decade of grinding toil and perseverance. Farming is a complex and precarious business, and they made plenty of mistakes along the way. But as they learned how to grow food, and to succeed at the business of farming, they also found that a small, sustainable, organic farm could be an engine for change, a path to a more just and sustainable food system. Today, The New Farm supplies top restaurants, supports community food banks, hosts events with leading chefs, and grows extraordinary produce.

Told with humor and heart, The New Farm is a joy, a passionate audiobook by an important new voice.

I loved this book. It is very informative and entertaining at the same time. I love that they share what worked for them and what didn't. Definitely worth the time to listen to or read!

So many reasons to take this book for a spin. Great storytelling, well written, and an honest depiction of the issues that face us as a species...and how to overcome them. Thanks!

The New Farm will make laugh out loud. You'll easily relate if you grew up in the country, have recently relocated there or are planning to in the near feather. I really appreciated how honest Brent was about his story, his personal challenges, and the struggle it was to start a farm. I'm glad they have successful, and I'm glad they have traversed against the orthodoxy of agribusiness and of small scale farming. The are beautiful examples of commitment, and to finding a way of life that works for your family - financially, emotionally, ecologically, holistically. Cheers to this story!

I found The New Farm to be a fascinating read. I try to make good food choices and this book inspires me to try and do better. Not everyone can be an organic farmer and I admire Brent and Gillian for all their hard work and success. Even more admirable is their fundraising and commitment to getting good food for those in need. These are people who are making a difference.
