About this audiobook
The New York TImes bestselling series!
Dark forces are on the rise in this sweeping second book in The Black Witch Chronicles by critically acclaimed fantasy author Laurie Forest.
Elloren Gardner and her friends were only seeking to right a few wrongs when they rescued a Selkie and freed a military dragon. The last thing they expected was to be thrust into a realm-wide underground resistance against Gardnerian conquest.
While the Resistance fights the harsh rulings of the Mage Council, Gardnerian soldiers descend upon the University…led by none other than Lukas Grey, now commander of the nearby military base. Though Elloren tries to keep him at arm’s length, Lukas is determined to tie himself to her, convinced that she’s the heir to the power of the Black Witch, a legacy that will decide the future of Erthia. As his magic calls to her, Elloren finds it more and more difficult to believe she’s truly powerless, as her uncle always claimed.
Critics are raving about Laurie Forest’s incredible debut, The Black Witch:

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I liked this book much better than the first of the series. the hero is less wimpy and slightly smarter and the annoying Nazi hints have transformed into a full blown Third Reich invasion; I do not love reading about such things in fiction as I feel that they are not to be trifled with in such a manner, but at least in this book they are given full exposure and not just used as a gimmick to express extreme evil as I felt they were used in the first.
the book is action packed and decently well written. not much reality but no glaring plot holes either.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5captivating! Found family, forbidden romance, such great conflict and growth! I'm loving this series!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book made me cry in my car 6 times and get so anxious I looked up the synopsis of the third book half way through (I NEVER do this because I know it’s unforgivable but I could not handle it). 9/10 recommending to anyone who “liked the idea of books like ‘fourth wing’ but wanted more substance” ??
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This whole series is awesome. Continuous action and gripping moments throughout the entire series. Honestly , there was never a dull moment. Usually I’ll fast-forward or skim over large area of the boring books and they don’t keep my attention at all, but not this series! I’m staying up until 4am reading this series because I can’t put them down. My husband has even asked me if I’ve set the book down long enough to eat anything! I tell him ‘yes dear I have’ ...then when we go to bed for the night he becomes suspicious about the bizarre growling coming from my stomach and the intensity at which its protesting. So...these books are very engaging and better than food. Read the prequel ’WandFasted’ first though. Have fun y’all
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great fantasy! Well written and very well developed story line.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I simply cannot express how wonderfully enthralling this series and the narrator who brings them to life are. I am a 50 year old grandmother...and I'm hooked!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I truly enjoyed the whole series thus far. however I'm very disappointed that the last book is not included. so I'm left not knowing the ending. guess I'll just have to go buy it. ???
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Where is the next book?? I want it NOW. Finished this and the first book in two days. I’m obsessed.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A solid sequel but I did feel that some of the character development was purposely slowed down. I know YA books have to be multiple series books but it did feel like drawing out the inevitable in several instances. I will be spoiler free but I also think Elloren’s insistence that she was staying in Gardenaria to take care of her uncle would have made a lot more sense if she ever SAW her uncle. Glad to see some things I suspected confirmed and I’m looking forward to the next book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is so great. I loved everything about it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent book with a really great narrator and fantastic characters ?
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I almost did t continue with the series as the first book was really underwhelming. I didn’t really like Elloren as a main character and I didn’t really feel any empathy for any of the characters. I decided to give the second book a try and I enjoyed it a lot more. I will definitely read the next instalment.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow, just wow, this story was an emotional rollercoaster ride. There is so much drama and action in this story. My feelings were all over the place, one minute so angry, then bawling my eyes out, doing the ugly cry different times in this story, and beautiful moments too. For someone that supposedly has no powers Elloren is mighty, in both her convictions and actions. Once again I both love Lukas and dislike Lukas, I hate a love triangle that is the one part of this whole series that I would get rid of. Yvan has moments where he acts like a jerk but most of the time I was falling in love. Im not surprised at all by what conspires toward the end but super excited to see where this leads in the next book.
