      I enjoyed this in much the same way I enjoyed The Wedding Date. I went back and looked at my review of that book, and it turned out that I felt very much the same about the two books.Once again Jasmine has written smart independent multi-ethnic/racial characters who fall along the spectrum of sexuality. She has given us men and women who actually communicate and fully support one another and who value their friends as highly as their lovers. She has also included a strong family unit. Loved that! Jasmine is a member of Fug Nation, and it was very fun to find a few Easter eggs for Fug nationals. The frustration of an obsession with coats when one lives in LA (hi Jen!), the people who aren't royal watchers but got up to see Harry and Meghan get married, the shoes (we don't wear), and the closet full of great clothes when you wear yoga pants every day, and also the community of smart bitchy and very supportive women. Proud to be a co-citizen of Fug nation with Jasmine, and grateful she has given us such a fun book.

      Here's a chick lit romcom featuring people of color rather then the usual and tedious (by now) white bread characters. Nikole and Carlos meet cute, but they've both got real life and real time issues that impact their growing relationship. Strong family and friendship ties make this a very light but enjoyable diversion.

The Genres for “The Proposal” are Fiction, Women’s Fiction and Romance.The author describes her characters as each having their own set of problems and insecurities.Nicole Patterson, a writer is a lucky lady to have great friends, and the opportunity to work from home on many of her stories. She goes to a Dodger’s Game with her boyfriend, who shocks her with his proposal for marriage on the public billboard. Nicole has been dating her boyfriend a very short time, and is not ready for this. Publicly, Nicole says “No” as her boyfriend is on bent knee with the ring. Sadly he misspelled her name on the board.As the media and cameras head over to Nicole, Carlos Ibarra, a physician with his sister come to Nicole’s rescue by pretending that they know her. Nicole is very appreciate, and offers to first buy Carlos a drink, and then dinner. Nik’s friends feel that a rebound relationship with Carlos is just the thing that Nicole needs. After all, Carlos is a single, handsome doctor, who wouldn’t want a serious relationship. Or would he?I appreciate that Jasmine Guillory brings up women taking self-defense classes to protect themselves. The author also discusses the importance of self worth and self respect. I would recommend this story for those readers that like an easy, delightful story. I received an ARC from NetGalley for my honest review.

      I received this book for free from the publisher (Berkley Books) in exchange for an honest review. Please note that I have not read The Wedding Date, so all the characters in this book were brand new to me. I also cannot speak to how this book compares with that book. It took me forever to read this book because I just started law school, but this was such a fun romance! First off, I loved the diversity! The main character is black. One of her friends is a plus sized Korean American. The other is a black lesbian. The love interest is Latino. It was just so refreshing to see and read about, especially since the book takes place in Los Angeles which is so diverse. The premise of being proposed to at a baseball game (if only it wasn’t a Dodgers game- Go Giants!) and saying no was so creative and fun. I could picture this being turned into a great rom-com movie. I also loved the overall vibe of the book. It felt very LA. Like when I was reading it, I could totally tell that it was LA and I felt like I was there with the characters. The romance was really good as well. Nik and Carlos made a great couple. I loved their interactions, especially the ones with Carlos’s family. His family is the best. The ending for me fell a little flat which is why I gave this 4 stars. It ended quickly and I wished that it would have been fleshed out more. Overall, this was an enjoyable diverse romance!

      It was definitely a cute book. I wouldn't say I loved it, but I did like it. However, I felt as if the writing was pretty repetitive and remedial and the story was fairly predictable. There were parts where I was pleasantly suprised, but all in all I was just pretty annoyed with Nick's character because I felt like she was whining a lot and unrealistically naive about what she wanted. And pretty childish too in her relationship.

      Felt like reading a romantic comedy as it played out on the big screen. The author attempted to take on race and issues around domestic violence but fell short. I recently moved to the LA area and enjoyed all the LA references.

      It's definitely a light book. Some scenes were too descriptive. We don't need to know how the dude cuts his onions. But i liked it all the same. The characters are interesting and it's just a light happy and somewhat predictable story

      3.5 stars. The opening scene was the stuff of movies. I loved it. This was another meet-cute, sweet romance. This story follows The Wedding Date and focuses on Carlos and Nik. When Nik's boyfriend of five months proposes on the jumbo tron at a Dodgers game and she says no, she is rescued by Carlos and his sister Angela. They strike up a friendship, which leads to 'benefits.'This was sweet, and I enjoyed it, but not as much as the previous book. I just wasn't feeling the chemistry between Carlos and Nikole. Something was just lacking. That being said, it was still an enjoyable story and a good listen.

      Nik and Carlos are fun main characters But the side characters also added color, humor, and interest. I really enjoyed the journey through the relationship.
