About this audiobook
Charlotte Gorman loves her job as an elementary school librarian, and is content to experience life through the pages of her books. Which couldn’t be more opposite from her identical twin sister. Ginny, an Instagram-famous beauty pageant contestant, has been chasing a crown since she was old enough to enunciate the words world peace, and she’s not giving up until she gets the title of Miss American Treasure. And Ginny’s refusing to do it alone this time.
She drags Charlotte to the pageant as a good luck charm, but the winning plan quickly goes awry when Ginny has a terrible, face-altering allergic reaction the night before the pageant, and Charlotte suddenly finds herself in a switcheroo the twins haven’t successfully pulled off in decades.
Woefully unprepared for the glittery world of hair extensions, false eyelashes, and push-up bras, Charlotte is mortified at every unstable step in her sky-high stilettos. But as she discovers there’s more to her fellow contestants than just wanting a sparkly crown, Charlotte realizes she has a whole new motivation for winning.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book was so stinking cute and addicting!! I read 200 pages in one sitting because the Texan, Harry Potter-loving main character was so fun to follow and the inner monologue was witty and adorable. This book was so entertaining and relatable, even when it would sometimes cross over into the territory of trying too hard to be funny. It definitely kept my interest the entire book and was just the perfect amount of awkwardness and sass. This book in general is very fast-paced and easy to devour, which I did in pretty much 12 hours. The downside of this is that a lot of the pageant is skimmed over and the character development, outside of the main character's own thoughts, is veery shallow. Especially with the love interest, I feel like there was a lot of room to explore the people around Charlotte rather than her own inner monologue.
I have two main problems with this book taking place at a beauty pageant. First, the main character who is bookish and awkward is SO critical about the fashion and makeup world, and especially her own sister and the pageant she's in, including things even like social media. It fell into the category of girls who feel like you can either be bookish OR like makeup, not both, which I think is totally false. This was never confronted really, but Charlotte does become more accepting as the book goes along. Also, I think this book inadvertently created a really bad message about eating as a beauty queen. This book attempted to dispel a lot of stereotypes about beauty pageants like girl on girl hate and fakeness, which I think for the most part it did successfully, except for the stereotype that models don't eat. Several times throughout the book, the girls talk about not eating or when they do, eating tiny portions. There's a scene where the main character eats candy and then has a moment of ~i can't believe I did that~. It just felt weird that this book was trying to say that beauty queens don't succumb to stereotypes, and yet every other scene was someone talking about not eating or the main character is shamed for being hungry. I would say avoid this book if you're uncomfortable with disordered eating or mentions of anorexia because this book definitely had a lot of questionable eating habits in it that were never challenged or talked about as negative.
Still, I loved the main character's growth and this book had me smiling and getting teary eyed at many points. I put the book down because I had secondhand embarrassment at times and even clutched the book to my chest when it was over. Despite its weaknesses, it really shone through as an easy-to-consume, lighthearted story that still had some depth. Although this book was insta-lovey and had a pretty generic unrealistic romance, I didn't mind suspending my disbelief because it was just so much fun. The book is pretty much rated G with its romance, so it was just a nice book that i'll remember for its outgoing main character and how much fun I experienced while reading it.2 people found this helpful

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This book is supremely silly. The protagonist is sophomoric, a self-proclaimed book lover because “bibliophile” is probably too big of a word to be in this book. Her favorite tomes indicate a ninth-grade reading level.
Nevertheless, this bookworm librarian gets a head-to-toe makeover to impersonate her beauty-queen identical twin. Romance, hilarity and hijinks ensue.
If you want to turn your brain off and listen to something on an airplane or on the beach, this is perfectly fine. The voice actress is okay. Not as versatile as others, but not so terrible I had to shut it off, either.1 person found this helpful

Romance
Who doesn't like a easy going romance once in a while? There is a romance aspect to this novel... but wasn't the focus of the novel. The scenes between Charlotte and Gray were so mild and was disappointing. I feel that Gray's character was a bit underdeveloped and was hoping to see their relationship flourish more. I'm not a believer of falling in deep love over a 2 day period? This kind of annoyed me. I feel the romance side barely touched the surface here. Which maybe was the author's intention? The romance is G rated, PG at most, and predictable.
Buttercup
Buttercup the cute dog definitely steals the show throughout the whole thing and is absolutely my favourite character. I really wish there had been more girl bonding with the other contestants too! There was a nice scene like Miss Congeniality where they're eating burgers in sweats, but there could have been so much more!
Overall
Nice book to forget about real life for a bit. Very glad I'm not in the pageant world though (no offense to anyone). - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Love love loved it!

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The Accidental Beauty Queen by Teri Wilson -- Ah, love love love.
Use this book in the event that you need words full of delightful mushy romance and quirky bookish fun.
This book was fresh, and light and perfect. First off, twins.. switching places.. who wouldn't want to read that! This was a sweet romance that I enjoyed from the first word to the last word. I don't know how to describe this book without giving too much away. The personalities drew me in, the scenes captivated me, the arguments had me wanting more. - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This book was slightly ridiculous. Perhaps I’m too old to enjoy this type of book. I should have listened to the sample before I downloaded the book.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It was an easy read , took me two nights to finish it. K guess it was way to easy , close to kinsella books but not nearly as funny and wit
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book surprised me, it was a very good book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Stupid easy summer read, nice relaxing book with family being a main plot point
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I absolutely loved this book!!! It was cute, fun and quirky. Enough romance and laughter. This book stir some emotions deep down and that made it all the better
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This book was entertaining but much of it was unbelievable and a little bit cheesy. I thought the love between Charlotte and Gray to not make sense based on how few Interactions they had and shallow they were. Even though the plot and love story was hard to believe, I still enjoyed listening to this audiobook.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5made me laugh, made me cry. So good. It is certainly worth the read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This sister bond was great. I really enjoyed this book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It was good. But predictable. Loved her voice.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a fun and fast read. It is predictable but fun.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Public school librarian Charlotte Gorman is in Orlando to share a hotel room with her twin sister, Ginny, to cheer Ginny on in her latest beauty pageant but mostly for a vacation for herself. But when Ginny has an allergic reaction and is too swollen to compete she convinces Charlotte to pretend to be her for the preliminary stages of the Miss American Treasure pageant. Charlotte has never understood the appeal of pageants but as she steps into Ginny's (very high heeled) shoes, she discovers a kind community of women plus a spark with one irresistibly charming man.A pretty cute novel that strides the line between romance and general fiction. I enjoyed all of Charlotte's nerdy book references (particularly heavy on the Austen and Harry Potter) and there's some charm in the swapping places, which appeals to this long-time fan of The Parent Trap. That said, all of the lying required eventually started to wear me down and it felt less fun and more stressful. That said, the ending is very sweet and while the ending is a little optimistic it is a happy one. If it strikes your fancy, try it.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A fun read about a topic I hadn't really thought about. It's great that at the end I had come to the similar realization as the main character. Charlotte, that the beauty pageant scene is not vacuous and backstabbing but could be something uplifting.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A lovely beach-read with a whole lot of heart – this is not your average lay-by-the-pool, sunny-day read! I’ll be honest, I almost didn’t pick this book up. It sounded a bit predictable and beauty queens just aren’t my style, if you know what I mean. But I’m so glad I did!
Pouring through this in one evening after work, I went through the proverbial stages of entertainment: I laughed, I cried, it tugged at my heart-strings. A multi-layered story of family – with all of its accompanying joys and frustrations – and of self. Of living through someone else’s eyes, learning to see things from a different perspective, and of realizing you can both love yourself and who you are while also embracing new experiences.
Charlotte Gorman, a librarian who sports messy ponytails and bookish t-shirts, is in Orlando for a much-earned vacation and to support her twin sister Ginny who is taking aim at her last shot to be crowned Miss American Treasure, following in their deceased mother’s footsteps. Ginny ends up in the hospital with a severe allergic reaction, and pandemonium of course ensues when she convinces Charlotte to take her place in the contest, just until Ginny is improved enough to step back in. Charlotte is hesitant at first, but eventually her twin convinces her. Horrified at the lie, but swallowing her pride, Charlotte dives in and unwitting learns a lot along the way about herself, her fellow contestants, and her dear twin.
This was quite a gem of a story that I am happy to give four stars, which is unusual for me - a beach read would normally rate at a three for me if I enjoyed it, as I typically prefer a more literary-style read. But The Accidental Beauty Queen, with its surprisingly hidden layers and stirring emotional depth, definitely earned that extra star!

#OUABC - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was cute and quirky and different from what I normally read so it was a nice break. I’m not really into love stories but the relationship based on the Harry Potter series was cute. I’m not a twin but I can totally see how this could be a fun endeavor for twins - Not necessarily a beauty pageant but in every day life.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Sweet but really the message has been told in much better books. It was a library book so I do not feel too bad and I was on vacation
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It’s bright cover called out to me and I’m glad it did! The Accidental Beauty Queen was a charming, quick and entertaining read and just what I needed at the end of the week, feeling run-down and not in the mood for something epic. Loved the bookish main characters Charlotte and Gray and the literary references throughout the book including Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre etcThe dialogue is witty and clever and the story also touches on heartwarming themes of family, sisterhood and self-confidence. Though predictable, it didn’t matter as this delightful romcom was so much FUN and who doesn’t like a Mr D’Arcy-sequel male lead? It left a smile on my face for the rest of the day
