    For Students………

So, why are you going to college?

We are always amazed at students who will offer up a list of colleges they would like to attend, but remain at a loss when asked what they would like to study. This is a serious example of the tail wagging the dog. When we probe further, we hear responses such as the following:

I want to go to ABC University because my cousin goes there.

I am going to X, Y or Z colleges because they have a great baseball program and I want to play.

College choice should be driven first by the program a student wants to study, and then by any number of less important variables which might include location, cost (please, no final decisions until the financial aid numbers are in), size and MANY others. Never was the old saying of Failing to plan is planning to fail more true than when it comes to the process of college selection and admission.

The process gets more complicated every year. Deadlines for admission, scholarship and financial aid, and housing and meal plan applications are always lurking and vary for each school you are considering. Athletic scholarships add another layer of complexity and decision making.

This guide is intended to walk you through the important steps to successful college admission and a successful career beyond. Each section gives you detailed discussions of issues you may face and solutions. We also incorporate career options outside of the standard four-year college education for your consideration.

If you are a Junior in High School, congratulations on thinking ahead and getting to the process early.

If you are a Senior in High School, it is time to get moving!! Deadlines are looming and acceptance to the College of your dreams (as well as the ability to pay for it) are very much riding on what you choose to do right now. There is a lot of work to be done and we would like to help.

There is a four step process to gaining admission to the college you desire and many issues that have to be addressed under each one of these steps.

iMoneyCoach College Coaching can offer you a personalized and professional process to fulfilling your College goals and dreams. We want to be with you every step of the way.

    For Parents………

As your child begins preparing for college, you will find yourself facing new things as a parent. It is a time of learning, of making big decisions and of realizing that your student is growing up. You have worked hard and spent countless hours in raising your child, trying to do all you can to develop strong character and preparing your child to be successful.

To make the college process as smooth as possible, and to maintain a happy, healthy relationship with your student, avoid these mistakes that parents commonly make.

    1. Pushing Your Opinions on Your Child

When your child was younger, he or she depended on you for everything and you had the ultimate authority. Now that your student is preparing for college, it is time to let go of that control. You can avoid friction between you and your child by allowing him or her to decide which college to attend, which organizations to join, when to study, what to eat, what friends to make, which classes to take, and so on. Instead of forcing your opinions, instead work on building
