About this ebook

This book is not about the man who got down but we will focus sharply on the man who hears the cry, Man Down, the Man who is Man Up! That man could be you, it could be me. What do we do when we hear the words “man down”? Are our spiritual ears attune to the cries of man down? These cries go out every day all around us and because we have become deaf and distracted many of our fellow men die on the battlefields of life.

    Introduction

Man Down Man Up: The Concept

There is a scene in the movie Tears of The Sun where a Special Ops Commander, played by Bruce Willis, rushes back into a battlefield that is under heavy attack to rescue two of his comrades who were hit and put down by enemy fire.

This scene portrayed the type of incredible bravery that inspires us all and reminds us of the power of selflessness.

In the military there is a creed that soldiers live by. That creed is one we all would do well to adopt in our daily lives. This creed permeates military forces since the days of Napoleon to modern day military in almost all countries around the world. What is this creed?

The creed is leave no man behind. I have been told by military men that the words man down sends an adrenaline rush through a soldier because it means going back into enemy fire to rescue a comrade who was hit. To fulfill the creed of leave no man behind, soldiers will risk their own lives to rescue a man down.

This book is not about the man who got down but we will focus sharply on the man who hears the cry, Man Down, the Man who is Man Up! That man could be you, it could be me. What do we do when we hear the words man down? Are our spiritual ears attune to the cries of man down? These cries go out every day all around us and because we have become deaf and distracted many of our fellow men die on the battlefields of life.

The goal of this book is to equip those of us who are standing (at the moment!)with insights, strategies and resources to reach out and help a man down; get back up again.

Anyone can get down, it is not our job to judge the man who is down, it is only our responsibility to leave no man behind and go back and rescue him. Even the righteous or the man doing right can fall. And not just once, according to the wisest man who ever lived, a righteous man may fall seven times. In Proverbs 24:16, Solomon states, For a righteous man may fall seven times, And rise again…

So here is what we will do throughout this book. Since Solomon puts it out there that even the righteous man can fall seven times we will run with the seven concept. Thanks Solomon!

So we will look at SEVEN things that can cause a man to fall down in the chapter Weapons of Mass Destruction. Then we will discuss SEVEN symptoms that can help us recognize when a brother is down. And we will end with SEVEN strategies we can employ to help a Man Down; Man Up.

We will also explore the fundamental question of why are you still standing?, and explore insights and life examples of Man Down Man Up.

So join me as we examine some insightful strategies to help us recognize a Man Down and help him Man Up.

    Chapter 1

    The Purpose for Your Position

Let us explore a fundamental proposition that there is a purpose why we find ourselves the Man Up while a brother is Man Down. It is not by accident that we stay standing when others are fallen.

We all fall down. To the ground, face down, man down. Even the righteous man falls, seven times according to the wise man Solomon in Proverbs 24:16. Even in spite of the promises of Psalms 91: 7 that we will remain standing though 1,000s fall at our side and 10,000 men fall down at our right hand, if we are truthful there are times when we find ourselves face down and Man Down. In spite of Isaiah 54: 17 which says no weapon formed against you shall prosper at times you find yourself defeated, face down, man down by the weapons of life.

But praise be to God the Father of us all, there are also those times that we find ourselves standing, protected from the night terror, the arrow that flieth by day and from the destructive pestilence that destroyeth at noon day (Psalms 91:5-6). Sometimes we find ourselves Man Up. Even at times when we might be Man Down in one area of life the mercy of God
