About this ebook

You should sleep with a stranger, her best friend whispered in her ear—and so begins the intense, erotic journey of Kasie Fitzgerald in Book One of the Just One Night series, a blockbuster bestseller and “an uplifting story in which sex is presented both as freedom and as a metaphor for power” (Publishers Weekly).

Kasie Fitzgerald knows who she’s supposed to be. Responsible. Reliable. Predictable. She’s an ambitious workaholic who is devoted to the sensible man she plans to marry. But one wild, impulsive night in Vegas is about to open her eyes up to who she wants to be...

Trying her sexy new dress and her luck at a blackjack table, Kasie meets him. Intense. Flirtatious. Dangerous. She accepts his invitation for a drink...and then to his hotel room. She doesn’t know his name. But she’ll never forget the sex. Hard. Thrilling. Explosive.

So when her mystery man later shows up at her office unexpectedly, she succumbs to his mastery, both in bed and in the boardroom. There’s no telling where the powerful, wealthy Robert Dade will lead her. But there’s also no resisting her desire...however far she’ll go under its spell.

The only question is who she’ll be when the journey ends.

Editor's Note

Smart & sexy...

This bestselling novel is our ideal romance: well-written and incredibly sultry, with a heroine who’s smart, independent, and totally floored by the insane chemistry she shares with her hero.

Kyra Davis

Kyra Davis was born in the San Francisco Bay Area where, with the exception of a brief stint in New York, she has spent her entire life. She majored in business and humanities at Golden Gate University and, after graduating with her bachelor's degree, began a career in fashion merchandising and marketing. At age 27 Kyra gave birth to a wonderful son and stayed home with him for the first 18 months of his life. During her hiatus from work she managed to spend just enough quality time with her husband to motivate her to file for divorce. As a single mother on the verge of bankruptcy, Kyra felt it was irresponsible to drown her sorrows in Cosmopolitans so she drowned them in Frappucinos and writing instead. The Frappucinos (complimented by a healthy dose of anxiety) lead to insomnia, which lead to more writing time and it wasn't long before she realized that she had found her calling. Two years later Kyra had an agent, a finished manuscript and bids from two New York publishing houses. She feels the secret to living a happy life is to pursue your passions and learn from your mistakes, which is why she has quit her day job to become a full-time writer and will only spend quality time with her son, her friends...and Juan Valdez.

Originally published in three novellas and available solely over the Internet, and now available in one complete novel, JUST ONE NIGHT is an erotic contemporary novel that explores the effects of power, fear and submission in the bedroom, as well as, the boardroom. While many have compared it to Fifty Shades of Grey, and at first blush there appear to be many parallels, I believe that if you can get beyond first impressions and allow yourself to delve deeper into the storyline, you will find that this tale attempts to explore a much vaster universe and is an empowering and enlightening one for the heroine, not just the hero. Themes tested in JUST ONE NIGHT, include finding inner power by letting go of your fear and inhibitions; and how unfettered powered can actually be dehumanizing and therefore damaging to the one wielding it.While I enjoyed this novel and devoured all 483 pages in just one day, I do think it is worth mentioning one huge warning for anyone considering it. This novel tests acceptable mores in a variety of ways. In addition to the kink, which includes a number of light BDSM scenes, exhibitionism, and menage a trois scenes (including F/F action and even one scene where another male is allowed to touch the heroine), the premise of this novel is built around adultery. If these are subjects that you are not comfortable with, I would skip this one.Kasie Fitzgerald is the perfect business executive: a Harvard MBA graduate who has established herself as an up and coming star at one of the top consulting firms in the country. She has exercised an inordinate amount of discipline to get where she is. As she approaches her 30th birthday and anticipates her wedding to her carbon copy perfect fiancee (the man whose Godfather runs her firm), she is looking to let off some steam and actually be uninhibited for just one night. Her best friend recognizing this need, perhaps even more acutely than Kasie, takes Kasie to Vegas where she encourages to have a one night stand.Kasie borrows one of her friend's sexy dresses and lets her hair down. Intending only to do some harmless flirting, Kasie heads to the blackjack tables. But one thing leads to another and she finds herself partaking in a crazy, wild night with an intense and powerful stranger. A man who she only knows by Mr. Dade, makes her feel things she's never felt before, and can read her true self--the one she buried a long time ago after a deep dark family tragedy--like no one has ever done before. She disappears from his hotel room in the middle of the night without knowingly leaving any contact information; content with the knowledge that she will always have this memory and now can move on with her ordered, perfect life.Mr. Dade, however, has other plans and is used to getting what he wants. When he tracks her down, the sparks begin to fly and Kasie soon finds that the world as she knows it will never be the same after he offers her consulting firm the account of a lifetime, but only if Kasie leads the team. What will Kasie do? Will she stay in her comfort zone or face her fears to find what she truly wants?Ms. Davis tackles some really difficult subject matters in JUST ONE NIGHT. Again while you at first may not believe it, she does try to find a way to attempt to justify the heroine's and hero's actions; and I highly enjoyed her underlying symbolism of the interplay between power, fear and submission. Moreover, the passion filled scenes smolder right off the page, even if a few of the "dreams" may be arguably unnecessary to the central plot. Somewhat along these lines, my one constructive criticism is that I think this story could have benefited from additional editing. In a few places it felt a little disjointed and certain passages where arguably unnecessary to the central themes. While a few of these can be explained by the fact that this story was originally written in 3 parts, there are a few others that arguably seemed incongruous or gratuitous and therefore, in my opinion, should have been cut from the final copy to make this a stronger more concise read.Notwithstanding my observations in the preceding paragraph, I highly enjoyed this novel and it kept me deeply captivated. So much so, that I was driven to finish it in just one day. I think Ms. Davis' writing holds great promise, and I loved that she was willing to bring pen to paper to some rather taboo subjects in the romance world. I will definitely be looking to read more of her works in the future.Source: I was provided with a review copy by the Publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an unbiased review.

A roller coaster. Up. Down. Sideways. Sharp pulls and turns. This was one gripping ride. One night with a stranger both destroyed and remade Kasie into so much more. The ocean and the moon that rules the tides. The rules that can be made, explored, discarded, remade again. Walls rise and fall. Mr. Dade found his heart and nearly crushed it under his will, his fear, and to watch as he and her find that gentle balance on the knifes edge of passion and power was very rewarding.

I went through so many different emotions reading this book. There are many ways you can relate to this story to make it your own. I loved it from start to end and I couldn't stop reading, in fact I read this book within two days!

The end to this book was perfect, I made myself believe it wouldn't end the way I wanted it to, but I was wrong and incredibly happy!

I can't wait to read even more by the author.

Interesting story. Started out nicely then changed. By the middle I hated her and He was a cold bastard. At least it ended well. But it certainly had me feeling everything from happiness, anger, frustration, sadness, hate and lust.
Worth a read, but you need to finish it to understand.

I really liked this book but the sex scene in the shower was a bit off putting. I could just imagine someone slipping and getting a nasty concussion. I wish that the author had put some handicapped grab bars in there.

I struggled with this story, primarily, because it was difficult to identify any character who was true to themselves. They all seemed to have no clue who they really were, which was portrayed in one dishonest or behavior after another. In addition, the story felt stilted and anticlimactic.

I loved Robert's domineering character, as well the evolution of Kasie. It was hard to put this book down. I wish there was a sequel to expound on Robert's lifestyle and his business.

I easily walked away from this book after reading 65% of it. I was so bored I couldn't read another page. I could not relate to the extreme characters in this book. It reminded me of 50 Shades of Grey but with power play instead of rough play. I didn't like either book, but at least I could finish the other one.

The above blurb would have you believe that the heroine knows herself. No. She does not. She’s all over the road and I didn’t like her one bit.

As a matter a fact, I hated the plot. I also didn’t like that the story has only heroine’s point of view. I truly think the reader would have benefited by knowing at least Dave’s and Robert’s point of view.

Listen, if you’re into erotica and a heroine who’s cheating on her fiancé, I think you’ll love this story, otherwise, skip it.

This book is AWFUL. I couldn't even bring myself to finish it. The main character is horrid, scheming and ridiculous. I found myself wanting to smack her upside the head for being such a victim. It may be a NYT bestseller but it certainly isn't a very good read!
